I used to help a guy run limited late models at Hickory motor speedway

Fun stuff and the wifey already gave the go ahead to use her car
I did sheetmetal & floorplans on some late models the ran at Highland Rim for several years. A good friend did my muscle car engines in return for me doing his sheetmetal work.

If you can afford it, get them into it.
Drag racing is/can be fairly cheap to get going, especially in bracket classes etc
Keep us posted if they start racing, maybe score some sponsors on here!

From the looks of it, for dirt, the FWD and Pro 4 are the "cheapest" to get in to. FWD ( front wheel drive) just looks too tempting, and then for asphalt that would be hobby stock. We shall see. Looks liek Friendship has a kids night cominbg up and they will have a power wheels race lol.

But we shall see, they are still a few years out before they could be racing. Hell I'm already looking in to a FWD car lol.

As far as sponsorship goes, well...... we would see how things pan out first before I would think about that lol

Get a kid interested in any kind of motor sports and I can assure they will have neither the time or money for drugs!

Oh no doubt. Plus ittle get them out of the house.

Yes and no.
Unfortunately I was around some folks when I raced Harleys that had no issue offering me coke or pot on a regular basis.
I had to start declining their offer of a bed (one guy had a tour bus with multiple bunks, his brother ran a production company for Discovery Channel), and just staying in my truck

But, youre right, racing is expensive

Look man, you'd be surprised at how many will toss a few bucks here or there or just some free parts once you can show how regular you race.
I only did 5 national races, maybe 6, a year, as well as local stuff - but after a few years I started reaching out to companies and got floated some free parts. Had a local that paid for my entry fees at each race.

Just take a couple years and approach folks professionally and you'll be surprised dude!

I dont know what's legal in the classes youre thinking of, but if you could score an early 90s honda you'd have a plethora of used parts and cheap used performance upgrades available
Many of their vehicles share many many parts, making it easy to keep a car running

Oh no doubt on the sponsor part. But due time will tell lol.

but I’ve already looking for a sunfire or an integra. Hell even a probe, focus or a corolla will be a good platform for the FWD class lol. All have cheap and plentiful parts to run them and be semi competitive. Hell, there is a guy in my neighborhood that has some CRXs that would be a good starting point.

mill keep everyone updated. I know the kiddos would have a blast lol

Go for it,,, racing is a family sport.. Keep them involved and it will turn into a family event or something to do on the weekends..My kids were raised on racing, might have been drag or circle track and they liked helping getting the car ready and heading to the track every weekend..Once they are in the pits, there is so much excitement going on at all times its like a carnival to them.. Keep the kids involved,, send them to go get food, give one a stop watch to record your lap times, clean your windshield between heats ? You just brought your own cheering section and thats a great feeling. You can let your kids run free in the pits because its probably the safest area they will ever be in and they will enjoy the freedom, just teach them to watch out for cars. It will teach them independence and responsibility because they are the Team.. Have team T-Shirts made up and everyone wears the shirts on race day, its a great bonding experience and well worth every minute..

Thats what I’m going for lol. I’ve thought about starting really small and getting them in to RC racing so Ittle be cheaper and they’ll get some understanding what is to be expected of them on a race day

Well, I have the chance to possibly buy a car that would be great in the FWD class

mid-late 9os integra, good start
What is the class like, restrictions etc? Hondas have so many interchangeable parts, that'll be a benefit to you

Go karts will give you all the thrill and experience you need to become a racer, especially for the money.

nothing I know of around here that does it or I would

nothing over 2 liters, has to be FWD, the same engine that rolled off the factory line with (if it came with a b16 or a b18 it has to have that engine in it. No variable valve timing or it has to be unhooked. Pretty much stock everything minus a fuel cell, roll cage, racing seat, and brakes

We built and raced late models in the late 70’s. Way underfunded but our crew could drink with the best of them. We actually spent the night in the pits at Dillon Speedway one Saturday night because no one was sober enough to drive home.

closes is Salisbury lol. I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you

I used to help a team out racing limited late models in 2006. Lots of fun stuff going on during that time

What are they asking for it? I cant see any sort of cage, am I missing it? Anything already done to prep it for the track?

oh it’s a street car for sure but nothing I would drive in the street. Lots of stuff needed to make it reliable and is currently tagged for the street.

but it’s cheap enough, and not much to make it race ready.

Have a friend who's son races and he has been at it since he could reach the gas peddle.Started in carts and moved up from there. Now racing Legend cars and understands the cost now that he is racing on his own dime. LOL

You used "racing" and "cheap" in the same sentence. (lol)

I know I know
But it can be as cheap as you want it to be.
ET racing really doesnt take much other than entry fees

The big money in racing is in Bracket racing... Several 3 day events at Darlington & Rockingham that pay 25k per day to win... They usually pay back through 5 or 6 round up to $1,500.00.

Win all three days and take home $75k. Lots of 1/8th mile bracket races all over the South that pay 10k to win. You don't need a fast car.

There is a guy near Florence, SC who has made a living bracket racing a well worn stock Chevy Suburban with a 454/turbo 400 tranny and a Quadrajet carb running on the primaries only. No electronics, No delay box, No Nothing.... I've seen him embarrass and trailer 30-40k Super Comp/Top Sportsman cars. They load up in their 100k toterhome and head out with their tail between their legs. He drives his Suburban to the pay-window, and then out the gates and on down the highway. The Chevy cost him $1,000.

Big difference between a Racer and a Rider.

The Million Dollar Bracket race was held a few weeks ago and the winner was driving a Chevy Nova that runs mid 6's in the 8th.

Yep, dont have to be fast to win in ET racing.
Simplicity is a good thing, less to go wrong

Do you need us to help you craft a way to bring this up?

lmao, no sir, when I threw around the idea earlier this year she was on board, now if she’s doesn’t say yes then I’ll be in touch lol. I’ll know something Saturday at latest.

Do it...!!!!!!

Trying boss lol
