I keep reading that "we" need to end racism, and the "community" needs to heal. MSM just fans the flames but that's not exactly what these observations are about.

What needs to heal is the relationship between (certain parts of) the community and the police.

I have believed for a long time that in order for that healing to start, drugs should be decriminalized.

The need for the collection and preservation of evidence, as in no-knock raids, chasing suspected drug users, and the like, should change the street environment in this country.

This is my thinking, a naive, non-LEO, non-prosecutor, non-defense attorney layman. So flame away.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

So maybe its well past time to try something else.

I have been of the O.P.s train of thought for long time now

Drugs finance the thugs. If we throw up our arms and quit the fight the blacks will only fall deeper into despair. Better to fill the streets with black officers and a well financed small business program that truly empowers those that wish to live in peace and prosperity. To long the blacks have been the lapdog of the Dems waiting for their next handout, time for those that are willing to join up with the rest of the country and build a community that rivals those that choose legality over criminality.

Regardless of what is done or changed you and I will never live to see any difference. I would chance a guess that it would take 3 or more generations for any change to be noticeable and in the meantime what is happening??? Nothing out of the ordinary, same crap, new day. Some behaviors are too ingrained to be changed and regardless of the concessions the "good" guys make the "bad" guys will continue because that's all they know.....

Explain the riots in CLT in 2016 then. Black cop shot a black armed man with zOMGGGG
'drugs' aka a minor personal amount of MJ. Black Chief of Police. Plenty of representation of minorities throughout local and state government. And they still broke shit and burned shit. Oh and a black guy shot another black guy at the 'peaceful protest' downtown.

Same in Atlanta. Same in Baltimore. Same in Detroit. Chicago is the shining example of it.

I’m all for legalizing drugs.

would solve a lot of problems, and free up the courts in a lot of ways also.

but they’ll always be bad people in the world and lets be serious, it can be better money with a lot less work if the job on the illegal side.

drugs are easy money across the board.

I want to start off by saying in do not agree with how things are being done and how people are looting and rioting.

Last night I was trying to think about what I may have in common with the protesters. I don’t mind the protest until things get violent and destructive. If someone wants to protest go ahead and if I feel like I need to I should be afforded the same.

One thing I think I can agree with is that the police have been given more and more power. I also see them as a way for the gov to get money from ordinary citizens while the elected officials can get away with murder. Yes there are some good police but still I’d rather have smaller gov with the people taking more responsibility.

With that being said, I think with smaller government people would need to give up their government handouts and depend on themselves rather than someone else. I know my family would be fine with less government but I honestly don’t think the majority of the ones protesting would.

Protesters and Rioters/Looters are completely different things.

And yes, all welfare needs to end immediately. It will hurt some at first. It took 60-70 years or more to get here. Can be cured in 1-2 years max.

I can’t decide on legalization. If one goal is to reduce the illegal drug trade, then drugs need to be cheaper from the government than from the gang, which probably means low tax revenue. Is that what has happened in states where we’ve decriminalized MJ?

Speaking of which, are police and race relations better, worse or no different in states that have decriminalized?

I don't see this as an either or solution.

Why not implement all of these solutions?

Legalize low impact drugs like MJ. Not hardcore stuff though.

Increase small business investment in black neighborhoods.

Increase black policing by black cops.

Reduce militarization of most cops. Increase training in jujitsu (mentioned in another thread).

Increase police pay so they don't feel so much financial pressure to steel, take bribes, or work too many hours (saw on Facebook).

Do it all!

Either these these urban areas and big cities are badly managed resulting in these problems or the people living there are bad. Or some combination of the two. Don’t think the water in Apex is all that different than the water in Durham so what then causes more problems and violence? Policies or people? And if it is the policies who has been in charge of those policies? Maybe someone should consider trying something new?

Your usage of events that are racial by nature point to the same problems that faced our nation one hundred and fifty or so years ago. Then it was the Indians and the solution was reservations. Care to sell that notion to our elected officials?

I think you and I may live to see Khrushchev's prediction come true by the actions being presented recently. Our country is close to an easy taking by those from within, the only shots being fired will be those that never saw it coming and chose to end their life rather than see the aftermath.

To long the blacks have been the lapdog of the Dems waiting for their next handout,.

That's the line they chose it get in... It's their own fault.

Everyone , and I mean everyone knows right and wrong, there are free programs they can use to get some place better.
They can easily search them out and find what could be better, they choose not to.

Take away ALL of their handouts. All of them. It will be like leaving ant traps. It gets worse before it gets better.
HA!

"We're going to make sure that everybody gets their mail [welfare] today. I want you to cooperate with me so we can do this smoothly. If we start a big mess outside here then they're going to close these doors and the police will be all over us... don't start any riot at this post office. Please, will you work with me?" - Maxine Waters, Los Angeles 1992

If you've ever driven by a pot shop on 4/20 and seen the people standing in lines stretching down the road... any tax would be a boon.

What we really need is a couple good evening thunderstorms, that’s really all it would take to wash this away.

Or find a new cliff for the lemmings to walk off.

Colorado's making mad money on weed & weed tourism. If I recall correctly, it's about 15% tax, with city, county & state all getting a piece of that.

They are not making as much as they predicted they would. The black market is cheaper than the legal stuff.

Here is my question: is anybody even working anymore? Did these people ever work? Am I some sort of damned sucker for going to work?

I barely have time between real life problems, work, and occasionally eating, pooping, and squeezing in 3 hours of sleep to the point that I doubt I would care much if a cop kneeled on my neck until I died.

Something just hit me on a news clip I saw...protestor, with a nice new bullhorn (likely multiple hundreds of $) had it bedazzled up...high-end gas mask and other “essentials” hanging off his backpack as well. I’m guessing he isn’t an amateur and likely does this for a living? Wonder what he’s making? I’ll bet more than many working stiffs. I’m guessing he is also getting .gov payments and benefits as well...o_O...because I would think Antifa and other “protest” groups aren’t paying a lot people “on the books”!

This wouldn’t be happening if it was the dead of winter or if we were having severe weather. I’m afraid it might get worse as it gets hotter outside.

I know this stuff has happened before with other events, but Im curious how many are still unemployed due to CV19 and getting 600/wk from the feds + state funds.

Either way, protest away, but the BS looting and violence needs to be put down QUICK...but I know it wont

I support the right to protest OFF the damn street. Making a damn working man wait even longer to get home so you can piss and moan in the middle of the road is ridiculous.

The legal stuff there is half the price of the equivalent quality here. 'N you gotta know some sketchy MFers to find that quality here. If they're cryin' poor, it's 'cos they're cookin' the books & not factoring in the huge economic boost from weed tourism & are no longer dependent on just ski & hunting seasons. Restaurants, bars, shops, etc. are all doing mad business with the stoner tourists. More out of state plates parked at dispensaries than locals.

They're just poor mouthing & glossing over the amount of money being spent there year round now. 'N it's a beautiful place. I dunno about living someplace like Denver, but it's the perfect spot to go get all zen with nature & shit. Kick ass breweries & distilleries, too. Fun restaurants & spice merchants & whatnot. If getting super high is your thing, it's an awesome place to go do it. In fact, one of my kid cousins just bought 75 acres out that way.

Barring the event being cancelled, I'm flying to KC in September & the aforementioned cousin, his wife & his dad/my best friend from high school are doing the Telluride Blues & Brews festival. Gonna turn off the outside world for a few days & score some quality hang time with some of my favorite people.

I feel bad for the honest black citizens, all of this sucks for them, and probably their future. The destroyers need to be stopped with much pain.
The lasting effect of this nationwide destruction will be more division, distrust, fear, etc. I expect there will be fewer business owners comfortable hiring folks, much less trusting folks that look different than themselves.
Hopefully police across the nation receive hard scrutiny over this, the insecure & unstable bullies get fired. Everyone hates hypocrisy and abuse of authoriah.

Racism, like many of the ills of man is part of the human condition (nature of man) and its never going away.

But you can learn the traits of another race and mimic to your advantage. Today's protesters are a mix of races that are the future of this nation. Now, the question is, which race's traits will be chosen to live by. Much is said about diversity but at some point reality is not an episode of the Jerry Springer show or is it?

For those thinking that legalizing drugs and taxing them is gonna be a windfall for government consider what was said about gambling and money for schools. The profits from the lottery were supposed to be for schools and yet teachers still complain about low pay and needing supplies.

Think about that one for a moment and tell me where that money went.

I don't think raising tax should ever be a reason for doing things. That said, legalize drugs and prostitution. Less crime and less violence and less suffering. Less whackin off maybe if the prices come down through more competition. Just a thought. I have a lot of deviant thoughts like this, hit me up.

When the state lotteries were looking for approval, they vowed that the taxes would go to the schools for better education.
When the taxes rolled in, as planned, the money was sent to the school systems, as promised. However, they forgot to mention that the lottery money replaced money from somewhere else and that money was pulled as the lottery money was added.
Bottom line is the lottery taxes are going to the schools but their budgets didn't increase. The money they used to get was spent elsewhere.
Typical politician double-talk half-truths.

The allocation for education from the general fund was cut by the amount the lottery was projected to bring in. Some years the state overestimates the income from the lottery, leaving the education budget WORSE off than before.

Forget taxes, they'll just mess that up.
