I was killing time looking for an example of a good work cooler so I stopped into Academy. Unfortunately many of the shelves throughout the store were half empty, along with very small amounts of ammo and practically no guns. I inquired about the Glock44. The salesman stated a lot of this model had issues. Most extractor related but cracked slides also. The feedback he has gotten has not been favorable.

Online reviews and videos have not been favorable compared to other Glocks. Some felt Glock would pull production. Poly frame, reinforced poly slide. I handled the gun. Very light like a toy. Will it survive as a product?

I was actully planning on buying one in the near future. I have not heard all this. @Jayne might weigh in

.22 plinkster did a pretty good review on it. l think he has a couple videos on it actually.

To sum it up, he said it only like premium ammo so what is the point. I want one based on the concept but I'll wait awhile and see if they make any updates.

Agree on G44 only liking premium ammo. That has been my experience albeit only 200 rounds through it so far.

My G44 has ran with CCI Mini Mags, Remington Golden and, Federal bulk ammo. If you already have a G19/G23 you can get the conversion from Advantage Arms for less money. Or, get the G44 and have a dedicated 22. The Glock magazines are much easier to load than the AA magazines. I don't think you'd be disappointed with either one.

For the same money you can have a finely made gun that was designed around the .22LR cartridge.
Just my opinion.

I saw the slide blowing up / extractor flying out stuff in the beginning too.

Of the 4 people I regularly shoot with, 3 have G44s now. One has over 10k rounds through his, mine is at 2865 rounds, and I don't know what the 3rd guy is up to (he's late to the party) but I'm guessing at least 1500.

Somewhere there is my post about mine firing out of battery, and we measured exactly how far out of battery they would all fire and mine was sorta in the middle. So of our 3 samples, they ALL can do it.

My M&P 22 compact is way, way less ammo picky (basically runs everything) but the G44 has worked OK with remington golden bullets, thunderbolt (the guy with the 10k+ on his has been 80% thunderbolts) and it really really likes the Armscor 36gr jhps. I'm trying to run though a case of golden bullets in mine, and the ammo itself is pretty inconsistent. It's from back in the 22 shortage days so the QC was likely garbage but some rounds don't sound right and won't cycle the slide. I've been taking it apart after that happens to check for squibs if I don't see the steel move. The armscor is recent production and runs really really well.

It's not the best 22 out there by any stretch, but it is the best "glock trainer". I've gotten much better with my G34 having put all the rounds through the G44. The mags are the same size/shape as the real thing so the gun fits my competition holster and the mags fit the carrier so I can do all the draw/reload/etc drills just like the real thing. It's oddly fun too.

If you're not a high volume Glock shooter, then I wouldn't recommend it. My M&P 22 compact is way more reliable and way less picky. If you are a glock guy and shoot a lot and want to get better, I highly recommend it.

Just watch those out of battery explosions. They don't hurt, much.

Plinksters video showed the flaws in the new gun right from the start. It would be nice if it was PERFECTION. If you carry a Glock similar in size it’s a cheap way to practice.

I mainly liked the idea of an identical platform to train/plink/truck and not have to disassemble the gun to make it full bore again. Would like to use to train my daughter on the platform also.

I am about 2000 rounds into my glock 44 with mostly CCI and federal with some bulk remington ammo without any issues. I like that I can use the same holster for it and my glock 45. My only real gripe is that they went with the weird thread pattern on the threaded barrel, yes it does come with the adapter but it would be nice to not have to use an adapter.

@Jayne Can you elaborate on the out of battery firing. Is it violent with a fireball or a minor incident? Does it happen while dirty or from the beginning of a range day? Would you given your experiences buy again?

Details here, along with the measurements on all 3 guns that show just how out of battery they'll actually drop the striker:

Yep. I've used 2 conversion slide kits to make a .22LR Glock and the G44 is still the best 'glock trainer' yet. Since I compete with Glocks, I want a rimfire trainer, and it can't be beat at this point. Like I said before, if you're not a die hard glock shooter, there are way better choices in 22 pistols out there.

I sold my good threaded conversion and got the threaded barrel for the G44, but I'm keeping my M&P compact as my actual 'rimfire suppressor host'. When things need dispatching around the property I want to know it's going to run 100% with subsonics and so far the M&P is the champion at that. The G44.... meh.

Im glad to see this thread as Im looking a suppressor host and this was on my short list. I had not even considered the M&P and was leaning towards the Ruger line including the SR22 and the Mk4. I will make a decision eventually....not sure when though. Glocks I own and have been happy with them but maybe something new is not a bad thing.

Like Jayne's comment above, I use the glock 44 sans suppressor as it is ment to be a trainer but for suppression I use the M&P compact. The M&P has worked with any ammo I have put through it, both suppressed and unsuppressed.

If you're making a list, check out the Taurus tx22. It seemed like another winner from those guys based on the reviews but I've not heard from anyone with first hand experience.

The MK4 ruger is.... old school.

The M&P compact has a dumb ass magazine safety, but for it's role it's not a deal breaker.

PSA has the M&P Compact for $320. Not sure how that compares to LGS prices.

People seem to be raving about the new Keltec P-17 too. Of course, I'm probably going to go with the Glock 44 since I'm a glutton for punishment.

I will check those out guys. I didnt even think of a Taurus as I dont have one or ever shot one. Great advice as always!

Great thread. I was wondering about getting a G44 to go with my G19. My wife and I both have M&P 22 Compacts with threaded barrels (need to get a trust and suppressors) to go with the various M&P 9mm pistols we have. Those Compacts are stupid fun and reliable; my wife uses hers as part of her carry rotation with quality ammo (she had some hand damage in college). Honestly, I prefer the M&Ps. I was going to sell the G19, but my wife didn't want me to

I went to buy the G44. I noticed a Taurus TX22 in the case. I liked the way both pistols fit in my hand. When comparing prices the Taurus overwhelmed me! I have just under 1,000 rounds through it, so maybe this not exactly a valid review? It has not had the 1st failure, of any kind!!! Sixteen rounds per mag. And extra mags are not expensive. The adjustable rear sight is cheesy. Taurus replaced mind but it took over a month.

Shot my Glock 44 today for the first time, put 200rds of mini-mags through it with 0 issues. I shot one of my g19s right after that and had to really focus after the first few rds as the 9mm recoil felt so much more noticeable.

I wish I’d bought the G44 sooner, great little trainer, and it will probably be the gun I am shooting the most for the foreseeable future due to the COVID ammo crunch. I at least can still pretty easily find .22lr at the moment.

Has anyone replaced the front sight on their G44 yet? I think I’m going to leave the rear sight as is because I’m scared my sight pusher would damage the plastic cut if I install a metal rear sight. The front sight though needs some replacin’

Don't think I'll be selling my M*P22 Compact any time soon to buy this. Or the Ruger Sr22. or the S*W 22A-1.

What's the draw again? Oh that's right, it costs the same as an Advantage Arms conversion kit.
