Sorry been out and about so I didn’t get back on until now. I did not name the store in the beginning because I honestly wanted to make sure I was not over reacting, but I have shopped at Perry’s gun shop for 5 years or so almost monthly. This was the store and the owner was the one that treated me that way. I had called and spoke to a clerk on the phone whom told me they could do it and to come on in and ask for Andre (he was not Andre) whom I have dealt with several times with absolutely wonderful service. Hence why I was going back and have gone back. But Mr Perry treating me like that kind of has bothered me to where I am not going back.

Had the same thing happen to me a few years ago with a gun store (now closed) in Butner. Was south of Chapel Hill and called them up and asked about a certain product and the wife told me, " sure". I told them that every chance I got I would bad mouth them and I did. Not sorry to see them go. However, that kind of attitude seems to be prevalent in LGSs

I went there once about 9 years ago. Wasn't impressed then, and after reading your experience wont be going back for sure.

Even with the best service in the world, I’m not sure I’d find anything interesting there.

I was at Ideal Sportsman in Concord and they had the 100rd WWB for $33, so only a penny cheaper per round. Ideal is usually priced pretty well. Considering how tough it is to get 9mm these days, I’m not surprised to see shops selling for 30c+.

As I understood his offer, buyers of pistols were welcome to buy UP TO ONE BOX of ammo per pistol purchased, AT THE TIME OF THE PISTOL PURCHASE. o_O

I’d give up shooting first! ;)

As to Perry’s I’ve had 95% great experiences but like CP said has something to do with Barry himself. The pricing is more demand vs supply than say Clay and FGG so I’m not really surprised at Jeppo’s photo ... but 34¢ per round may not be bad in the coming months either ... but it’s hard to think of Win White Box at 20¢ per round but good luck finding that now. Anyway, Perry’s hasn’t been on my radar for quite a while so this thread just reinforces my lack of interest in driving to Wendell.

Yeah the limitation of only selling ammo to gun buyers is another story altogether. I’m struggling to see Perry’s business logic. Is he trying to take care of the customer or make money? Seems to be flip flopping between the two.

I work at a gun store. If I treated someone like that, Id been fired. We really try to work on good customer service. focus on good Google reviews. Thats not the way those things happen.
That's because your store recognizes that gun people are NOT NORMAL CUSTOMERS. Normal customers have many choices for places to get what they want, or can just buy online and have stuff shipped to their doors without feeling guilty about not buying from a "friend" who has helped them out before.
Gun people have limited choices and we form strong opinions about places where we get our gear. And many of us will throw a lot of money at a place that makes us feel good about our bad habit. See Majicmike's post about buying 45-50 guns from FG&G.
Last fall when I moved down here I didn't know anything about the area or its gun shops. I had a less than wonderful experience at Jim's in Fayetteville and was not feeling great. Then somebody on a different forum said "I saw an interesting pistol at a good price I should have bought, but I don't need it right now - somebody else should go get it". I said ... "where, what gun, and how much?"
I found myself at FG&G looking at the gun. I said "hey, i'm too new and I don't have a NC carry license and I can't get purchase permits for a while... can I buy it now and have you hold int until whenever I can come back to pick it up?" No prob, no extra fees for credit card, no stress for indefinite storage. So a couple weeks later when I went to pick it up, I also bought another gun because they were still cool about everything.

I'm honestly glad FG&G is kind of far away from me. Unfortunately there is another really cool store just 5 minutes from work. and they have very reasonable transfer prices and offer custom services...

Yeah, but you also live in Fayettenam. :p

Good to know. I’ve spent a got bunch of money with them ever since I’ve moved to NC. They won’t see another dime from me.

Those 200rd 9mm WWB must have been from Walmart when try dumped them for $14 a box.

Foolish thing is, how many folks swap out sights on a new gun before they even shoot it? If he sold you the sights he would have made the sale vs a first time buyer who leaves the gun stock.

Me personally on my Glocks I Buy them with night sites but if I trade and get one that doesn’t have them I go put them on ASAP

And how many customers, who give the process profound thought, would accept an SD gun with only one small box of FMJ ammo and no possibility to also buy HPs?

My buddy over at Katy does mostly transfers. He has a small office that he works out of but no store front. He does keep some of the popular ammo on hand to sell when someone picks up their purchase. Even before the panic started he would only sell ammo to people picking up transfers. He sells his ammo for just slightly more than Walmart prices.
He says that lately many of his customers are first time gun buyers and owners. They have no ammo already on hand and don't know where to go to buy it. At least, they can buy a couple of boxes when they pick up their gun.
He also says that people are buying anything that they can find now. He told me that in over two years he had never transferred a Hi Point. Last week, he had four different people had Hi Points come in. He said they must be on Bud's or other sites and as soon as something shows in stock, they click on it.

Now that you named the store I voted. Not only no but HELL NO!!! I Have not been in Perry's in about five years. I will not shop at a store that treats people the way they do. The first time I was ever in there they were somewhat nice. All my visits after that were terrible and I finally decided that I would never go back. My daughter and husband use to live in Zebulon so that is a store that I would check out. They now live in Clayton as of last year. So now I will check out stores there.

Exactly. Everybody knows standard Glock factory sights are just placeholders for real sights. ;)

Gun store cancel culture...it's not just the left that "cancels" stuff...HAHA!

Seriously though, you were screwed.

IMHO it is the phone call where you had a conversation before you made the drive that made this egregious.

As much energy as this thread has taken, I bet you could post the story to his facebook and see if he sees the light and tries to make things right.

Maybe I am too forgiving or interested in giving people second chances.

If he is still a jerk after that then:

It that’s it’s all that important, but I thought WM only had the WWB 100rd boxes. I recall seeing the 200rd at Academy and Bass Pro.

This was posted Saturday morning on their FB page.

I thought the "when you tell us how many guns you bought from us" comment was a bit disparaging when I saw that yesterday morning.

And I have been conflicted about them for a couple of years now. I will say that it is a generational thing in the family business. At one time the owners were the salt of the earth. The next two gens ... not so much. Most of the old regular employees are good folks. ...

I first went to Perry’s in the early 1970s (and still have the Winchester 9422 I bought there then) - but my experience has been the same as JT’s. It used to be a friendly traditional gun store but now they act like they are doing you a favor to let you in. I go back once in a while with hope that things have improved, but it looks like they haven’t. Ammo pricing is one thing - your store, your rules - but there is no excuse for looking down your nose at customers who came to spend money in your store, especially repeat customers. I guess they are not getting many of those these days.

Dedicate X rds of ammo for every 9mm that gets shipped in. Store that ammo WITH the gun and try to sell it as a package. Any ammo that comes in above that is fair game. Any ammo they don't buy with the gun is fair game. From what I'm hearing, most of the new gun owners aren't buying much ammo anyway, so there should still be a small surplus. And that surplus would regenerate every few minutes.

Are referencing my run-on sentence or the Perry's FB post?

I'm used to bad customer service everywhere I go so I'm used to it now. I think since I look young everyone just assumes I'm broke. That is also why most of my stuff comes from big box stores though because I don't have to flag someone down for attention. I still voted no because I hold a grudge.

A very long time ago, in my early 30’s, I’d scrimped and saved pennies to treat myself to a special new car. I was pretty sure I wanted a Mercedes but thought I should at least check out what Cadillac had to offer before dropping that kinda money.

I drove the few miles to the local dealer and pulled up in whatever I was driving at the time (might’a been a Toyota). It was a Saturday morning and I was dressed as usual for me in a CA beach town; shorts, T-shirt, flops. I poked around the lot, then went in to the showroom. I sat in every car they had, opened the hood on several and hung around for at least 1/2 an hour. Do you think anybody spoke to me?

I left and drove to the Mercedes dealer in downtown LA and paid cash for a new 300E.

Hell yeah, that made a world of difference didn't it @Jeppo?
Later, Cadillac realized they were in the same boat in which Harley Davidson currently finds itself...with a dying customer demographic. What Cadillac probably didn’t consider was that maybe their dealers’ salespeople were part of the problem. If you didn’t fit the mold, they couldn’t be bothered. Too bad.

The 100 yd. qualifier. Something I learned to not do right off the bat. NEVER decide how much someone can afford. Especially based on appearance. I had guys that looked like they just crawled out from underneath a rock write huge checks or have perfect credit. I also had folks dressed to the nines that couldn't buy yesterdays newspaper on credit and were hoping the rebate would be their downstroke. Good on you for blowing them off. Their loss, your gain. Don't know what era you were talking about but Caddies were and still are in my opinion overpriced crap. You were much better off with the Mercedes anyway, resale value, etc.

First new car I ever bought was a Mazda Miata. Researched what I wanted thoroughly and settled on the model. Went to one dealer, talked about it for a while and asked for a price. He told me that this is where I need to go home and think about it for a while. Ok, so I did.

Went and drove away with one that afternoon from a different dealer.

My wife and I had that happen in the fall. They kept saying "you want to look at used right?" "Your trade in, you bought that used right?" Once they saw my credit score the were stepping and fetching. Lol.

oh boy, we could start a new thread on car dealer experiences. I have purchased my last two from Toyota Fayetteville. They WANT to sell cars. First time was sketchy with the sales manager. Ran numbers before checking my credit score or asking any questions about how we were paying. I Got very. Ugly with him. Next one we bought sight unseen, they drove it to my office in Cary.

Oh and I have spent an unreasonable amount of money at FG&G

Perry’s did the same thing after Sandy Hook. I have an uncle was in his 80’s at the time. He bought about 7-8 guns from them within a 6 month period because he suddenly got into shooting. The last one he bought was a .22 and while they sold him one box off ammo that was it. They would not sell him another. He lived in Zebulon at the time and never darkened their door again. He’s since bought multiple guns and plenty of ammunition. They lost a relatively long term repeat customer.

Yep, I have a 2nd cousin I think(dad's cousin) that's a farmer. Awesome dude. Will work hard until he dies. He's the guy that drives his old ford pickup everywhere around town. Years ago, walked into a gun shop that was going out of business and asked about a few old stock Kimber rifles on the wall. Guys didn't pay much attention to him until a customer recognized him and asked for the owner to come out. He ended up buying their entire inventory. Built a safe room to hold it all in and still has most of them to this day. I think he ended up with over 250 guns that day and all he went for was a few Kimber rifles he always liked. Probably still cheaper than any of the 8-10 combines he has.
