Who has thought that the fight may be lost and it is time to live elsewhere?

Where are you thinking of and why? I am widower who is retired and only have one daughter. She comes to visit 4 times a year.

Belize has been pointed out by a friend. A preliminary look seems to be favorable.

I just want to live in peace without all the fake dual party crap. I guess I am just tired of being tired.

Shower me with your thoughts.

Each individual has to decide what is best for them.

Me?

I was born here and I’ll be damned if I’ll uproot and go somewhere else. Like you, all I want is to be left the hell alone and live in peace...but I want to do it HERE.

I don’t / won’t fault anyone for seeking residency elsewhere if they believe that’s what will be the best move for them...go for it.

I’m staying.

I'm more partial to Costa Rica if I was heading south. Friendly to expats, cheap, and you can bring firearms.

Honestly, if I had money I would split time in a number of places. Spain/Portugal, the US, several islands...

Belize was gorgeous and cheap. But iirc gun laws there are shit and crime is awful unless you in resort areas (military protects these areas since so important to economy).

that being said, not much to do for work there unless you gonna peel plantains or rake sand. I don’t know you at all, but what I will say is it seems like the folks who do well there long term are super low key surfer bro’s from Australia whose only want in life is great surfing and diving...

if you do go, and you end up as a cave tour guide, just promise me you won’t let the Chinese tourists eat the bats!

I would consider the Czech Republic, but I am horrible with new languages, so I’ll stick it out to the inevitable.

yeah, I’m horrible with foreign language, but a half decent shot. I’ll Stick around for the war and see how it goes.

if I’m lucky I’ll get struck by a drone, if I’m not so fortunate, I’ll be captured and taken prisoner before I have chance to off myself and they will torture me with gluten free prison food and make me watch reruns of Will and Grace while forcing me to have daily conversion therapy sessions with my assigned Black Elder.

Yes, I thought about this years ago. But, never about leaving the country. As wsfiredude suggest, this is my country. I don't want to go anywhere else.
Some years ago, I had been thinking of bug out scenarios and realized the complexities and difficulties with bugging out. Not just me, but my mom, my inlaws, my daughter etc. Then it hit me, I needed to already be bugged out. I need to establish the homestead and be the place for everyone else to bug out to. So, that's what I did or rather am doing. I moved into rural SC and am establishing the farm. I don't think about bugging out anymore, because I'm already here. I can't describe the burden it takes off, not having to worry about old concerns.
But, leave the country, I see that as giving up. To live as an expat in a foreign country doesn't do it for me. This is home.

if I had to go, Panama, immigrants can buy firearms by getting a permit. You can pretty much do whatever you want without anybody telling you no, or get a permit to buil on your own land. There is a growing expat community there.

But I’m like @wsfiredude, I want to stay here. I’m still willing to fight for it.

I've seen a fair chunk of the world & while parts of it are nice & others not so much, this is home.

Not sure I'd trust Central America at all. Yer one coup/insurrection from becoming an unwelcome gringo & a target.

If forced to leave, I'd probably pick Romania. Czech Republic or Hungary would be options, but at least in Romania, I can get by with English & German till I start picking up the language. Not sure I'm up to learning Czech or Hungarian, though.

Even with my ties to & family in Europe, this is my home. I'll not run off & leave everything I've worked for to the savages. They're welcome to try to take away my freedom or my life, but they're gonna hafta fight me for it.

My family and I aren't going anywhere. We'll continue to live here and we'll die here. We may live and die here peacefully or we may live and die here fighting, but in the end, we will die here. Trust me. The grass isn't greener on the other side of the fence. If you think it is, then jump on over and good luck.

I used to think about it a fair amount 4-5 years ago. I concluded that where I am is as good as it gets. For me anyway.

That and the fact that the missus said I was free to go, either by myself, or in a pine box. :D

Edit: I do have interest in having a parcel with a small domicile one county over. We’ll call it a “vacation” home, since we’re talking about vacating. Might be incrementally better when the infringements ratchet up.

Something else to consider. If the ballon goes up in the US, it will have a decided impact on anyplace else you might decide to go. Economically, at the very least.

Crazy thing about Czeskies. They have long memories. Lots still hate the Brits and Americans for bad treaties post Wars. And of course they hate Germans and Russians the worse. Otherwise they're very hard working socialists. Slovakia is more capitalist.

And we have a factory in Slovakia. Neat.

Live free or die, not live free or move.
My ancestors fought in the First Scottish Revolution, then came here, one signed the Declaration of Independence and they all fought in the Second Scottish Revolution. They were among the Over Mountain Men at King's Mountain. My Great Grandmother's brother was a Captain in the CSA, rumored to be the last person killed before the surrender. All of them would agree with you, live free or die, not live free or move.

My Great Great Grand Father on my Father's side was the High Sheriff in Horry County in 1842. I hope I can die inside the Gates, maybe on the old iron bed on the front porch watching the sun set. Or maybe fighting to keep what we have worked for. Either way is fine with me.

My wife and I have talked about selling everything and going to the mountains of Costa Rica. The govt. may be defunct but they don’t have time to bother with you if you’re not causing trouble. A friend of my wife used to, or maybe still does, spend six months of the year there.

@DrSideways
I started a thread a long while back asking this same question. I am also noticing a lot more people outright saying the US is done. A coworker yesterday said he needs to celebrate the 4th this year because it might be the last one.

Isn’t it super cheap to live in Thailand? And I think you’re pretty safe as long as you aren’t selling drugs.

Yes, very cheap, my old man is just finishing his first year living there.
Their biggest complaint is Chinese tourists, by the billions.

I’ve thought about it, but mostly because taxes here may become unbearable. Unfortunatly God seems to have different plans since he’s stopped, or at least delayed, me from selling my business.

Many countries in South America have been great until they're not. Venzuela was awesome, now it's a burning fire. Panama has seen it's share of troubles. Cuba was a party destination until it wasn't. And on and on and on. I'm staying here. I'd rather fight than run. What happens when you run and then the next place needs you to run. There's only so many places to go. Can't let the statists win them all.

Most of the issues you are facing are in your mind. If you turned off the news and this website, most of your issues would disappear because when you look at the world through the eyes of the uninformed it hasn't changed much. Traffic, work, kids taxes...nothing has changed.

That hits it spot on. Out in the country nothing has changed as far as I can see. I have some neighbors with the virus but neighbor is a loose term here and they live over a mile from me. There’s no unrest and people are still waving at each other. It may get bad but the cities will have to get a lot worse before it gets here.

Quoting your comment because it made me think of it.... There was a news blurb last night about some FL cop, accused of killing ... someone whose name was in the news cycle .... that is being let out on bail. One of the conditions was turning in his passport. I made the comment to my wife that this is why you should go to a place like the Dominican Republic, at least when I heard of it for $500 will grant you dual citizenship and issue you a passport. Having get out of the country papers that aren't issued by Uncle Sugar-daddy, might not be a bad idea.

Czech is hard! when I went there I literally couldn’t understand a single word.
