Colt reverses controversial decision, decides to sell to civilian market again

Glad I sold mine when I did!

Shouldn’t be long before we see $899-999 6920’s again.

The last couple of new Colt handguns I have bought in the past several years were underwhelming.
If they are any indication of the quality of their rifles I’ll pass, at any price.

This. I bought a Wiley Clapp 9mm 1911 and it wasn’t the greatest. At about $1200 I expected more.

Arfcom they act like this is the best rifle ever made. Lol.

Even if you're a Colt or death fan boy, how can you not be at least mildly alarmed about all the stupid decisions Colt has made of late? The bankruptcy issues, that problematic 1911 they sold to special forces, re-releasing their most iconic model during the softest market ever, and then pulling their versions of the most popular rifle in America just before the biggest gun rush in history. That's just off the top of my head.
What are they gonna do next? Stop support? Parts? Move to Turkey? Completely fold and your warranty goes poof?

I'm not anti Colt, not at all. The company is just to erratic for me to be comfortable with and that leads me to concerns about product quality too. Times are weird indeed, but you'd think Colt would be a leader in innovation and marketing since they've been around three-thousand damn years and would have some kind of plan. But rather, they seem to be lost about what to do.

My recommendation from the armchair is Colt should hire away all the exec's at Ruger to show em how to run a gun company.

But COLT is COLT.
Yes, you can buy a modern 1911 made to exact tolerances on a cnc from any company out there, but not just any company prints COLT on the side. Same thing with your AR - Yes, you can buy things that go way above spec from hundreds of other manufacturers, but only one company's say COLT. or how about a 38/357 revolver - same deal, you can't get one that says COLT from ruger or s&w...
um... well that about wraps up Colt's offerings, doesn't it?
Aside from their upgraded python, what is their newest design? The AR that they bought the rights to back in 59?
Nothing against them, but they have really not kept up with things.

Colt should move to Arizona where Ruger is... Az is much more firearms business friendly that Connecticut ever was.

Why spend the money on moving?
CT was plenty happy to let Colt manufacture all the things it was making as long as all taxes were paid and restricted items were shipped out of the state. And Colt was happy to pay taxes as long as they got to make the things they were making and mismanage their company.

For several decades, making guns has been a sideline to Colt's controlling owner raping shareholders and creditors.

Terrible business decisions indeed. However, please remember, when you are enjoying shooting in the modern shooting sports from about 1950 forward, the tools to shoot those particular sports were Colt based.....2700...IPSC....3 GUN...IDPA....SASS. When these were in their HeyDay the Colt 1911, Colt SAA, Colt AR15 were the tools you used If you were serious. There have been Billions of dollars generated on these original platforms. The Jimmy Clark, Bill Wilson empires were built on improving these very platforms.
Yes, I have a soft spot for the old Colts and some of the newest ones. The new "Heritage?" 1911 is beautiful and a grand shooter. I'm gonna buy the first Python I see for retail. Just remember the connection the Colts have to the shooting we all enjoy. Our range shirts once had on the sleeve...If Your Firearm Does Not Say COLT..You did not pay enough.

I'll say this and not apologize for the opinion... I am not a big fan of my police positive special. But I admit that I don't really practice with it enough to be good with it either. old revolvers with that style grip are an entirely different kind of shooting.

I've never understood the delight that some have about an old line gun company in danger of going under. Except for Ruger, all of the old time gun manufacturers have gone bankrupt or nearly so at least once in their history. I've read on other forum of shooters delighted that Remington is in trouble again.

At some point in the future probably only bespoke gun manufacturing will take place in this country and what we can get will come from India or some such place.

I like Colt and agree with Battery Oaks Billy's post above.
