YOUR LEVER GUN PICS

DSCN8205.jpg

At some point in time I changed the sights on the Legendary Frontiersmen rifle, putting Williams on the rear, and I believe a Lyman on the front. Can't remember to be honest, that was many years ago. Got it out this morning, receiver was totally blacked and tarnished. Gave it a bit of a polish and took it out for some photos along with a couple of new M71s in 50 B&M AK.................. Here it is..............

Beautiful stuff.

Thanks Ronn.......... It is a nice gun. I needed to get it out anyway, and clean it up a bit. That silver finish tarnishes bad. I have a few of those Legendary Lawman, same story, receiver is black tarnished....... Need to clean those too.....When you guys get through looking at this one, I took photos of the two new Hi Grade Brownings I had converted to 50 B&M AK too.............

I have a couple of things in 38-55, I need to drag out the dies and load data and play with those guns some. Very nice to shoot, no recoil, easy and fun..... As I recall I had a bunch of cast bullets for those things somewhere? I used a cast bullet on that lion as well..... ended up the perfect bullet for the mission........... Dogs had run him up this serious mountain, and he had climbed down on a small ledge, and shear drop off of about 500 feet. It was a brain shot which dropped him immediately or he would have taken a tumble over the side with anything else..............

A few months ago I got a really good deal on a couple of the Hi Grade Browning M71s. Matching Serial #s, one was a carbine and other a rifle, I think 20 inches and 24 inches are the barrel lengths. I have no use for 348 Winchester, although I have kept one Carbine in 348 just to have one. And, honestly, I don't have any use for two more 50 B&M Alaskans, but I had them built anyway. Sent both guns to Brian at SSK to be converted. I am now the proud owner of 5 of these guns!!!!!!

Here is the matching set, now built in a proper .500 caliber.....................

LOL! Yeah. Usually I am a traditionalist when it comes to lever guns.

But it's just a Remlin, so who cares? And it was fun! LOL

Marlin 1895G in .45-70
Midwest Industries Rail
Beartooth Mercantile safety delete
Leupold VX-R 1.25x4 with Firedot
Leupold rings

The boss-man cut the stock down for me to get the length of pull right and re-fitted the pad. I couldn't stand the wood on black look so I painted the stock black. A few days (and a few shots of bourbon) later, I felt the need to put a little tiger stripe scheme to it. Not the most professional by any mean, but I don't regret it.

6AC625B8-9AAC-4495-AB01-A7D7E028EEBB.jpeg This Marlin 30/30 was bought new by my father- in-law in 1951 at Morganton Hardware, Morganton NC. I killed my first deer with it in 1982. About a year before he passed, in 2007, he gave this rifle to me. He was a really great man.

You have seen these rifles above, and I am not trying to repost them.... I am trying out a new Photo Hosting site, and just want to see that it works here.......Sorry for double posts.... or photos.......

Michael,
At the last get together (October) at Billy's I was hoping to shoot the level action gun but it started raining.

No worries, I have 5 of those............The two posted are consecutive serial#s...... One was Rifle and the other a Carbine.

Those guns almost seem to be too pretty to take out and shoot. Nice.

I gave one a hell of a workout in Africa........

Very accurate and hard to find in my neck of the woods. Likely going to be selling this one at the next show, but the longer I have it, the more I want to keep it.

I have said it before but I must say it again, you have some awful pretty lever guns @Michael458 :D

Thank you......... They are pretty awesome and shoot incredible. I now have 5 of these, they are built from the Browning Hi Grade M71s that were put out in 1986. As I recall there were 3000 Rifles and 3000 Carbines built. Rifles had 24 inch barrels and Carbines had 20 inch barrels. The photos above is a match set one was rifle the other carbine, and have same serial numbers. These guns go for anything around $1800+ on GunBroker, these I threw a bid out of $1300 on both, they were listed separate by the same chap. I ended up getting both of them, no one else bid.... I did not need them, but what the hell................

This past week I have been getting another 50 B&M Alaskan ready for a friend in CA. He had this rifle built from one of the new Marlins. He had a muzzle brake added, but really not required......... I was not so sure about the current guns, but this one is as slick as snot, and I was very pleased with the way it shot............

In CA he has the no lead bullet ban, so he has chosen to work with the Lehighs. The 420 Lehigh is what I shot the most and it is running 2050 fps with 58/H-4198............He also wanted me to mount this scope on the rifle, which is really too big in my opinion, and it has to be mounted with both rings behind the turrets to get the eye relief needed. Rather odd, but it seems to work............

Target is the 420 at 50 yards. Very difficult to shoot, and really requires a cheekpiece. The first shot at 50 is the bottom round, then I moved up 4 clicks and fired the next 3. I did not make any more adjustments after this.

Layne Simpson is a fan of the 50 B&M Alaskan, and has done several articles on it. The first article he did was with one of my Marlins and one of the Hi Grade Brownings.......... After he did the article, he had SSK build his own rifle, a stainless Marlin......

This is Laynes 50 B&M Alaskan, he and I went around the block a few times over his barrel length, his is 22 inches, WAY to damn long, but that is what he wanted.........

What is the cost of getting a Marlin converted.
Do you start with a 45/70?

This could get interesting.

@Michael458

I can't speak for SSK 100%, but ball park is around $1200 to $1500 depending on your specs, finish, sights things like that. Standard is using NECG Rear Adjustables and NECG Front barrel bands. Yes, start with 45/70. In particular the pistol grip version, it is much easier to handle than the Guide Gun stock, which has a lot of drop in the rear. Pistol grip stock is more in line with the bore,, much like the M71s....... Call Brian at SSK and get a more firm price on the specs you want.....

@Bryan Austin - nice rifles! What’s the lever rifle on the right in the second picture and what scope ya got on it?

@Bryan Austin thats a cool video. I definitely want to shoot a suspended golf ball now!

this is my browning blr .300 wsm. The scope on it is my new leupold mark 5 3-18x44. Have not shot it yet with the new scope. That rifle will house this scope til after my elk hunt this November.
