What did you do in the reloading room today?

Just got the case collator and case feeder attachment for my Lee APP press. In short order I had 500 45acp cases decapped.

Got my swager kit for the new Lee APP press, so I installed it and tweaked the adjustments (it helps to read the directions) and swaged a few cases. If I don’t have many cases to do, I may still use my Dillon swager, but for large batches I will definitely save time by using the Lee setup.

Sized about 500 9mm powder coated bullets. Inverted my Lyman jr. 2 press and relocated the handle. It sure is much easier to drop bullets in that hole than placing them on the pedestal.

I set my decapping die down as far as it will go, this gives much less mechanical advantage and also shortens the stroke. With less mechanical advantage, I can better feel how much force it takes to push out the primer. If it doesn’t feel right, I stop and check. So far, I’m guessing I have decapped in the neighborhood of 50k cases and have yet to break or bend my decapping rod. Still, I keep a spare rod, just in case.

Loaded 100 115 gr 9mm rn. My 2 1/2 yr old granddaughter likes to place the bullets on the brass....although it does slow down the process quite a bit lol. Let my 9 yr old granddaughter load 3 rounds by herself....she was so excited.

Yea, was doing it on the loadmaster, with 5 processes at once I can't feel it like with the turret press.

If i gotta pull harder than normal, i always check station # 1.

Yeah, that makes sense. I do it on my Turret press, just one operation. On a progressive, you can’t adjust it the way I mentioned.

Cleaned the guns from my range trip today. Sorted and decapped brass.

This Spring I was given some once fired brass to support my relatively new high power rifle hobby/obsession. Here is this morning's batch of beautiful x ring seeking missiles :D

Went through 150 lbs and pooped out!
Think I went through a little more than that, but yeah, it was starting to get hot. Full disclosure, it was outside, not in the reloading room. I was sorting out the stuff larger than 9mm and 223, I left with 62 lbs of brass. When I got home, I fully sorted what I brought back.

That's an impressive collection! I've got a good bit, but you're putting me to shame!
That wasn’t all mine. I was allowed to sift through it some to take what I wanted. I only took 62 lbs. I left most of the 223 and 9mm behind.

Public Safety Notice for today:

I have been reloading for many, many years; both pistol and rifle. I decided I would work up a few different loads for .308 this morning. I had already prepped my brass . I use a single stage press and a handheld primer when I am working up rifle bullets.

I decided to do sets of 6 in different grains of IMR4064 (I have a lot of 4064 on hand so decided to use it). While hand priming, I had one that was a little tight, with some resistance, but not too bad.....so I strengthened my grip and squeezed down on it a little harder - honestly, not much more; but the primer discharged. Scared my poor dog to death that was sitting at my feet.

This is the first primer that I have ever had discharge in all my years of reloading and hand priming. Has this every happened to any of you?

I always wear safety glasses and have the case pointed away from me when I am hand priming; but it was a good reminder not to get lazy and always think safety.

Was it a crimped case?

Have not had it happen - yet.

My post above has got me to thinking; is it time I moved away from hand priming? what do you guys use?
I do 99% of my priming on-press. Either my Dillon 550, or Lee Classic Turret. I do have an old RCBS hand primer that I rarely use.

I prime on a single stage, cheap Lee press with the Lee ram prime. Just the way I have always done it.
