So at the range today we had an ar lock up and stop ejecting. We could not figure it out. Took the gun apart and could not find any issue until we removed the gas key. It was plugged up tight. We got to looking and it had a damn primer in the gas tube. What is the chance of that happening? Drilled it out and got brass shavings and the key was no longer blocked.

@Bob Reynolds as it was his gun.

Fiochi to be specific.

I picked up some Fiochi 30 carbine to test out a rifle I was going to buy. 4 out of 10 primers separated. Not sure I'd buy that brand again.

Primer in the gas key? Pick up a lottery ticket on the way home.

A couple of years ago I was shooting a comp at WCFTC and heard a pop from the gun and no bullet out the bore. Upon inspection discovered that a primer had been installed sideways in the primer socket, and it did not ignite the powder charge.

Fiochi 9mm ammo

Oh wow, Ive seen primers pop out and end up in a fcg, or a rifle try and jam a round OVER the gastube, but never would I expect a primer to end up IN the gas tube.... sounds like someone needs to buy a lotto ticket!

Even my 1/2 Italian wife admits, the Italians make things beautiful, they don't make things that run reliably.
Americans make a firearm with 100 parts, the Germans make the same gun with 50 parts, Eyetalians make the same gun with 200 parts....Jeff Cooper.

I’ve had it happen as well, while I was teaching a class . Worse one I’ve seen is is the primer pop and land in the small space between the cam pin and bolt carrier. It locked the action closed, cam pin couldn’t move.

I give up. How did you get that apart to clear the thing holding it together?

I'm guessing they had to remove the barrel.

Wow, that is a hell of an image right there.

Maybe non seated primers. Anything made by Fiochi I have bought has been problematic. 45acp, 9mm, and shotgun shells. Especially shotgun shells. Nothing gun related frustrates more than no bang on a Skeet field or dove field. I wish the Japanese made ammo. Nobody cares more about quality than Germans and Japanese.

My Ruger Security 9 had a bunch of stovepipes one day using Fiocchi ammo. It’s always run well even with steel case, but it didn’t like that Fiocchi.
