9mm AR - help me diagnose an issue

I would bet that little tweak on you ejector cured it. What it does hand cycling is mostly irrelevant.

Mine had intermittent failures to eject, adjusting the ejector fixed it. It is a very common problem and fix.

I'm eagerly awaiting the new buffer to arrive so testing can continue.

When you going chootin' ? That buffer is too clean.

I have seen something new. Thanks for sharing.
Here’s the other pic I took but didn’t post. Almost looks like it’s been chewed up by the spring? Which is weird...

Sunset is 8:40p in Linwood. Heading back to shop now, and it’s about halfway to PHA from the house. ETA is 7:10, so that should give me an hour at the range before I have to stop. Plenty of time to dump a couple mags. :D

156 rounds downrange without a hiccup. O shot the first 136, then walked down to the only other pistol bay in use and had one of them shoot 20 rounds.

I’ll give some more details and post a couple videos once I get home and get them uploaded.

Ok, here are some videos. First up is a full mag, trying to shoot one handed and video where the empties were going.

Then I got closer to the berm and shot left-handed from the hip to record the ejection port in slo-mo. Pretty much every piece of brass went between 3 o’clock and 4 o’clock. Most of it went 6’-8’ away. Every once in awhile one went more in the 6”-8” distance. No idea. You can see one at ~50sec mark of this video:

Then I found the only other people at PHA tonight and asked if one of them would shoot a mag while I recorded. It’s not to hard to convince somebody else to shoot when you’re supplying the firearm and ammo.

He also took a turn with the Maxim 9, which I’d taken with me to see if I could get the red dot anywhere close. Bonus points if he actually signs up on CFF like he said he would. :D

FIXED!
Tell me I read this correctly. Your ejection pattern is like 6-8 feet away with occasional dribblers that are 6-8 inches. That suggests to me the issue was buffer length/weight and underpowered rounds were the ones that jammed up. With the new buffer the underpowered rounds still eject, but not very far. If you have access to a chronograph you'd be able to verify.
Glad it's working now.

That about sums it up...

...but I don’t know that it eliminates the possibility that the ejector realignment was also needed.

I suppose you could always put the old buffer back in once the ammo drought lets up. That would give you a result based only on the ejector.

I'd be curious as to the results if you tried it with the old buffer.
Might run a mag or two through it next time just for curiosity.

Glad you got her up and running!

Nice. I was going to ask if it only happens when dirty. My CMMG lower will start getting funky sometimes after 300 or 400 rounds. Depends on what ammo I'm shooting and if I've got my can on.

This one has done it since the first couple mags.
