The Epic CFF Mountain Bike Thread

Great ride Mike! Bandit is so much better when you skip half of it. :D Enjoyed the Rail Trail too. Lots of good stuff happening on that side of the WWC.

What time you planning on doing Mazeppa? I’m itching to ride but all 3 of my riding friends are out of town.

About 10:00. If the weather holds we are hoping to do two laps before lunch.

10a? I can still sleep in! Count me in. Been wanting to get up to Mazeppa.

Thanks for letting me join. It’s definitely a nice trail, very smooth and flowy!

No MTB for me today. Didn’t fit schedule.
Got a little ride on the road bike though.

Could anyone recommend a good set of 26” mountain bike tire for mixed street and trail use? This is for an old GT Avalanche LE I bought brand new in 1997 for $1400 (My life savings at the time. )

It has WTB Velociraptor 2.1 47/52 tires on it which are dry rotted. Hoping to resurrect this thing. Rode it all over Snowshoe, Tsali, and the Triad back in the day. Hasn’t seen daylight in at least 13 years.

Thanks!

I would look for something like the WTB Trailboss. You don’t want large spread out knobs which are meant for mud while riding street.

Decided to check out Purser-Hulsey this morning. If you haven't ridden it before you should definitely try it. It's not super fast or challenging, but it does have lots of interesting bits. If you do all three loops (which flow together into one big loop) it's just under five miles.

The only part that is not well marked is when you get to the long boardwalk on the "Back 40" loop. It's hard to tell if you are supposed to go left across the boardwalk or right into the woods. Go left across the boardwalk.

edit - and unlike Fisher Farms, the Enchanted Forest is not false advertising. ;) It actually does feel like an enchanted forest, and not a Rooty McRootfest. It is extremely tight though. If you are running 800s there are some sections you might not make it through.

KK and I are planning to hit the WWC tomorrow morning to ride Panda, then the better half of Smokey, then the Rail Trail, and then Bandit. And then maybe Panda again. And then maybe Panda again. And then maybe Panda again. Anyone else planning on riding there tomorrow?

I started riding up back in 1989. Loved it. Went back about 10 years ago and the road to the trail head parking had changed and I didn’t get to Trace Ridge or the other trails off of the Neverending Road. Glad to hear it’s still accessible.

There's a good route 0ut there that connects Middle Fork over to Big Creek. The run down to Big Creek is pretty fun.
I’ve been eyeballing Big Creek on trail forks. Wait till it cools off a bit and then go for it

Good call. Lots of Creek crossings on it. It's really fun starting at the parkway.

Gonna be a bit for me. Snowshoe finally got me over the weekend. Broke my wrist botching a landing. No bueno.

Gonna be riding Sherman Sunday at 9a with 2 friends if anyone else wants to join. :)

Hey @Vyntage your HAL wouldn’t happen to be at cycle path would it? If not, there may be another XL with the same issue as yours since the rear triangle was gone and the rest was just sitting there.

Haha yes it is. Mark is moving the components over to the Transition frame. I was going to build it myself but he quoted a very reasonable price to do the work.

That was a great ride! My apologies for leaving so quickly at the end; I wasn't trying to be rude I just needed to get home as quickly as possible. The Port-A-Johns are no place for someone that is already feeling nauseous.

Fun ride this morning everyone! Next Sunday again?
Good ride for sure. It had been so long since riding Sherman, I forgot how much I love that trail!

I’m planning on doing Mazeppa with my friend Don next Sunday. That shouldn’t kick his butt as much as roller coaster did haha. Of course everyone is more than welcome to join but we haven’t set it in stone yet; will do so later in the week.

I did Farlow Gap today, chasing the cooler weather

My Chameleon came in today. It was pre-built and then tore down to ship. Just had to install pedals, handlebar, and wheels. Very easy to do and the guys at Competitive Cyclist.com packaged this thing up very well. I rode about 30 minutes at home. Just going up and down the hill and getting the feel of the shifter. The big tires ride differently than the slicks on my hybrid. The shock is quick adjust and I'm really digging the dropper seat post. That thing is pretty dang cool.

Need a Dupont ride this weekend to shake that thing down. That bike will make Ridge Line an absolute blast
