Given the lack of ammo on the shelves what are you guys seeing at ranges? I haven’t fired a round in two years since my Skeet club was bought by a conservation group and my rifle/pistol range land was sold. I understand more guns than ever have been sold but are people practicing knowing there is an ammo shortage? Does replacement cost deter shooting?

What’s the status on privately owned range’s future? Can they survive both an ammo shortage and Chinese Flu? My guess is all those first time buyers managed to buy a box or two of ammo and that is all they are holding.

@BlackGun The direction this country is going in there will be plenty of places to shoot.
Need ammo, pick it up.
Need a new weapon to shoot it, pick it up.
Can I get a plasma cannon? :D

I'm sitting on about 22k in various primers and some powder. I cast for every thing I shoot including rifles. I also have some factory ammo stashed back also. I'm good for a little while.

My son and I shot 9mm and 556 last sunday at PSA's range in Columbia. The range was busy. We had a thirty minute wait to get a lane. Part of our wait was they had every other lane shut down, part was the number of shooters. Appeared to be a mix of new and experienced.

They had some of both 9mm and 556 rounds on their sales floor but were limiting purchases to 1-box per caliber per customer.

These "shortages" typically run in cycles. Hoping this one is too. With that, I've not changed what I shoot or how much. I've practiced "buying up" when prices are low over the years so I've no concern of running out anytime soon. I'll replace what I'm shooting when supply availability catches back up and/or prices drop once again.

Shooting more 22lr now lol
Love shooting 22LR. If I set up again after the heat I will mainly shoot small caliber. The land doesn't have a big enough backstop for 556 and 7.62x51. Don’t want to use the long range stuff anyway given replacement price.

I have at least 8 guns that have not been fired by me. I gave my son a never fired Browning Centennial 45-70 high grade in box this week. Wife delivered it when she went to visit in Kansas.

My range is outdoor and i shoot pretty much every week. Usually go mon-fri so almost always not too busy. Reloading is my second favorite hobby, ammo not a concern.

The last few times I have been to the range is was busy but people were shooting for a shorter duration. A fair amount of people but the turnover was faster than "normal". I know I personally shot less the last range session than I normally would have but I was sighting in 2 rifles which slowed me down some.

I RSO'd last Friday morning and had more shooters (6) in one day on the pistol range than I have had on any one day in 2 years. Half were new shooters and half were older reloaders who picked up all the brass of the new shooters.

uhhhhhh........crap. I completely forgot about my RSO shift. I usually come on right after you.

Where do you guys RSO in Hendersonville?

I've been shooting .22 and .308
.22 is cheap and I have " enough" to not worry about resupply.
.308 is easier to shoot a few targets and BS a bit in between trigger pulls. Collect brass and reload. It's also still on the shelf at Academy. $30/20...but it's still there.

Haven't shot lately mainly due to the damn heat. With a heat index of 105 plus and little shade and no wind it just ain't much fun. I've got plenty of rifle ammo loaded. I do need to reload a bit more 338. :D

If you want to shoot let me know and I’ll take to to my range. We’ve got skeet, 300, 200 , 100 and 50 yard rifle and several pistol bays. Indoor .22 lanes.

My range has seen decreased activity over the last few weeks, due to conservation of ammo by it's owner. And no time.

Something about having a house for sale, Father in hospital, working a job, and weather hotter than 7 hells makes me not even THINK about doing the second-most favorite activity of my life.

My favorite is eating also.

My range seems about normal activity. Matches seem a little light maybe down 10%, think that's more covid and/or weather.

I should probably order pistol primers before I get close to running out. I don't really shoot rifles anymore, have a few components of the mood strikes.

Good luck with that.

Watching online ammo prices continue to climb and availability continue to remain minimal...IF...IF the dems win in Nov I dont think the ammo situation will get better, it will get even worse...

I think if Biden wins in November we will see at least a huge tax on ammo that will make gas tax, alcohol tax, and cigarette tax look low. It’s appears this is an easy way to control guns without the Supreme Court being involved. I would not be surprised if they serialized each casing by lot in the future.

Illinois has attempted this serialization. The bills fail because of the impracticality of it. It would create a registry (illegal) and it would drive pricing so high as to make ammunition unobtainable for the lower class. That's an infringement to the bear part of the 2nd.
They tend to include serialization of the bullets too. That's a freaking joke because the bullets get mostly destroyed as they impact things. They'd be doing it just to do it. The serialized brass would create an impossible situation for law enforcement when somebody leaves a handful of serialized pick up range brass at a crime scene. Chasing down leads to nowhere and wasting time on regular working people.
