I've been bouncing my SiCo Omega between a 6.5CM bolt gun and the 5.56 SBR. I'm thinking of going to dedicated cans. I'll keep the Omega on one of them, so need to decide if the new can is going on the 6.5 or the 5.56 SBR.

This is my priority rank for a 5.56 can:
- decibel reduction
- length
- Accuracy
- Weight
- Mount system - if I could keep using the Omega mounts I have that would be groovy.

Priority rank for the 6.5 bolt would be:

- Accuracy impact (mount, cold vs. warm bore shift)
- Length
- decibels
- weight

Open to commercial and Form 1 options.

If you are going dedicated for the 6.5CM I would look at the thunderbeast ultra in 6.5. I still think they are the best precision can on the market.
  • Length 5 to 9 in depending on model
  • Accuracy usually a slight shift down but it is very reproducible
  • Weight 12 oz
  • dB - reduced to about 130dB

For the SBR is it just home defense / fun gun?

I’d have a short list:

Rex MG7K 224
YHM Turbo T2
YHM Turbo K

edit: all of those have the 1.375x24 threads, so you can use an ASR Mount (which is what I think you’re after?)

SBR is 3-Gun and general purpose HD/range/training

For that I would just look at what fits your budget and size needs. There are a ton of 5.56 cans out there. I have never found a 5.56 can that works as good as most any other caliber. They to me just don't suppress as good as larger calibers. They can be hearing safe but even then more than a few rounds and I still want ear pro and I have used a lot of 5.56 cans from various manufacturers. Never seen anyone shoot 3 gun with a can.

I have a Rex can that I transferred through TSConver.

Love it.

For a dedicated 5.56 can, Suppressed Nation compared a bunch on a 11.5". The Turbo K seems to be the best mix of cost, suppression, and size. It's also got a 1-3/8”-24 thread so you can use whatever mount you want. You could probably sell the included YHM phantom mount + muzzle brake to pay for your mount of choice.

Just on bay style / short range matches. If there's anything >250 yds I go with the 18".

Just never seen anyone use one in all of the matches I have shot. Don't really see the use. Still have to have ear pro cause everyone else is unsupressed and makes gun less maneuverable.

That being said to each his own. If I was going to run a can in 3 gun or HD I would want it as short as possible. Have you looked at the Innovative Arms stuff? Their Grunt M is pretty short. It is thread on but sounds like it might live on one gun which it would then not matter.

Good info there, just reinforces what I said, 5.56 does not suppress as well as many other calibers. None of those cans I would consider truly hearing safe. Even 130 dB is doing damage though most consider it safe for fast transient noises. Thunder beast claims their ultra 7 in 556 will get it to 129dB. Again just hearing safe but not for say a match of run and gun with a lot of rounds down range.

I haven't shot a day match there in about a year, but PSR37 matches frequently have people with cans.

Seen a lot of cans at various 2gun and carbine matches.
Phil used his at a carbine match. And promptly burned himslef, haha.

Like I said never seen one in the many, many matches I have shot. Guess the jersey guys don't use them, so no one else does either. I need to get out to some of the smaller less Jersey shooter matches, :)

Probably more fun anyway.

Then again as I mentioned in another post even at PRS style matches the number of suppressors is going down because the current brakes are just more effective than a can will ever be.

I just run it for giggles. I'm a solid middle of the pack kinda guy. Nobody is altering their stage plans after watching me.
