I've got to go to SC tomorrow and I see they are a reciprocity state, but with restrictions. What does that mean really? What's acceptable to do for a NC resident? I haven't been to SC in many years.

We don’t have open carry in SC. I believe all other liberty limitations are the same.

Yep which really doesn't have anything to do with conceal carry. There really is only of thing involved with reciprocity with any state, can you conceal a hand gun on your body. What happens otherwise probably is just whatever anyone can do in that state.

A “truck“ AR pistol, Shockwave, etc are not covered under SC’s CWP laws because a “concealable weapon” under Section 23-31-210(5) is ...
(5) "Concealable weapon" means a firearm having a length of less than twelve inches measured along its greatest dimension that must be carried in a manner that is hidden from public view in normal wear of clothing except when needed for self-defense, defense of others, and the protection of real or personal property.

You should be able to see all No Firearms signs in SC they have a great guidelines that make those who post have big obvious signs eye level in plain sight.

What about a folding brace? The ATF now measures pistols using only the functional length. So a very short barreled weapon, maybe like the Sig Rattler or MPX-K may be short enough.

Like NCFubar said, prohibition signs are required to be a prescribed size and placement. I don’t recall the dimensions but it’s not small. Any sign not meeting the statutory requirements are null and void. Officer notification required during an official encounter. No requirement for casual. Restricted places vary a little from NC iirc but are similar. SC SLED website should have a link to all the specifics.

Thanks for all the information.

The "truck gun" part sucks. Wasn't doing that on this trip anyway. The prohibited places are about what I thought.

I recall something about obvious printing being an issue. Is that true? Also inadvertent exposure of your concealed firearm?

A few years ago, I called the courthouse to ask questions. I think I spoke to the clerk of court, but can't really remember. Her response was "The only major difference was DO NOT PRINT".

I have talked to many LEO, Sheriff's, and all have said "Don't get caught printing", which mean in a nut shell, carry a small gun, or in my case I carry a 1911a1, and to avoid printing I have to wear a jacket or a long vest. Its a pain in the A-- in this Hot, Humid weather.

Glad I don't live in SC. I've always thought the "Printing " crap is infringement on your rights. Its knit picking to try to keep people from carrying. I took the G26 just in case ,instead of my G19.

Mission accomplished ! Went with a friend to meet a seller to get a new to him motorcycle. Didn't want him to be by himself, you've all heard about bad transactions. Had to move south and west to a place to keep the seller out of the rain. Good looking machine and it was really half way for both parties. 1st class seller for sure, like new bike.20200803_133747.jpg

I haven’t done exhaustive searching, but I can’t really find the “printing“ thing in any of the statutes.

Seems like it’s an officer discretion...reason to harass someone thing.

couple of decades back I remember being taught the same thing in a Florida CCW class.

I wonder if anyone’s actually ever been prosecuted for it

It has the Helibars and Sargent seats to name a few. Only thing missing is the bag guards. Its the 6 speed model with Cruise Control.

I guess I've been lucky, or maybe they don't pay any attention to old fat ladies in SC! Works for me.
That's profiling, and that is not cool!:D

It is very cool, if it works to my advantage. I don't need/want attention from strangers. lol.

Tell your buddy to get some Canyon Cages for it if he doesn't already know about them. Without them, a simple tip over in his driveway will cost thousands in body work repair. My buddy has a '15 ES model.

What is the functional length?

Take an AR pistol for example, they now measures from the back of the buffer tube, not the brace since the brace is not functionally integral to the pistol.

But they also screw you by measuring LoP with the brace on to establish intent to SBR.

But they may change next Tuesday, who knows what they'll do next.

Or maybe he has a severe death wish?
