Dang, heal up fast.

Mazeppa. Wasn’t doing anything strenuous even. Just misjudged a line and grabbed a tree. Stuff happens.

Thanks guys

Dayum. I got body slammed on Jack Rabbit @WWC a couple weeks ago. Even the easiest trail will sneak up and bit you.

Hope the healing goes quick and without lasting problems

I put a quick half lap in at Mazeppa this morning before it got hot. First time riding since March. Crazy how busy it was out there.
All of the trails are like that. Parking lots are jam PACKED, it’s crazy. No surprise when you see that every shop is sold out of bikes.

Was dead when I got there. Fortunately there were two guys that were at the trail head and they drove their car up and got me to the ER.

i walked out for about 30 minutes having to take breaks cause I was nauseous and kept having to stop.

If anyone knows two young men named Austin and Connor send them my way. They drove up to the soccer field and got my bike packed up and got me to the ER. I was very fortunate they were there.

Broken in two with a third piece floating. Getting it bolted together on Wednesday.

Yall have fun riding, I’m a couple months out it looks like!

Gonna be wearing the stationary trainer out!

I managed get mine into six pieces when I broke it. I was out 10 weeks. The last 2 weeks before getting cleared to ride were brutal.

Hope the time goes by quick for you.

Bike wrecks can be brutal, 4 years ago I crashed on the trail, fractured neck multiple fractured ribs, separated from sternum . But what a blessing it was! CT scan showed 2 tumors on left kidney, yes turned out to be cancer. Doctors confirm very aggressive. Long story short, partial nephrectomy and God’s grace as of this Friday all tests confirmed cancer free. Dr. said he would see me next year! Stay safe brothers.

Spent a couple days camping near Asheville. Did 26 miles Wednesday and 18 Thursday at bent creek. The climbing was crazy...

I did Mills River area Saturday, 18 ish miles on Spencer/Trace loops. 2700 ft of climb

Went to the new ride Kanuga bike park today, did another 21 ish miles. 3100 ft of climb.

Means to an end, gotta go up to come down, love me some down hill

I do love some flowing downhill too but really not a great MTN biker. Much better on road. I was with two guys on hardtails so when we started to go downhill they were taking it slow. Probably for the best though since I didn’t have a chance to kill myself.
You climbed a ton! I got in 2,538 one day and only 1,966 the next.

I haven't ridden a mountain bike since the last CFF run at Sherman. One reason is that it's been too damn hot, and another is that we've been too busy riding motorcycles. But damn, the remnants of the Motobecane are crying out to hit the trails again:

I rode Sherman once after that ride but that’s about it. I’ve been preoccupied with selling my truck to take advantage of the market, And now buying a used Jeep. Once that’s done it should be perfect riding weather again.

I didn't see this until now. What a story! Congratulations on surviving kidney cancer. I'm not a religious type but God does work in mysterious and wonderful ways.

To hot....thats what the mountains are for. Been going up every weekend. Sugar Mtn or Beech. Chairlift up, ride down. High 60’s to low 70’s. This past weekend was 26 miles of downhill. 2 weeks ago was close to 30. Took a few days to recover.

Going again this weekend for the summer ending weekend up there

You're not the only one that's been riding bikes in the mountains every weekend. :)

Took the Transition to Mazeppa today and man is that bike weird. Not bad per se, just weird. It feels a mile long, but it's only 3/4 of a mile long. And the front end flops into turns unnervingly, but then is super stable and easy to adjust mid-corner. It's all very strange.

On paper it's pretty similar to the Guerrilla Gravity but on the trail it couldn't feel more different.

Rode Rocky Road here in RTP for the first time in years. Man has that trail changed. I think I missed about a third of it somehow... Only went about 4 miles.

I was at a Mazeppa yesterday as well. The rain has been tough on some parts of the trail! The first berm in the open and the little jump line with both need a lot of attention. The good part was I got my new-rider friend out there, did 2 laps, and he loved it.

Yeah, the exposed parts of trail are in bad condition. We talked to a guy yesterday that's been riding there since it opened and he said it looked like that last fall too, but they groomed it over the winter and by early spring had it looking like it was when you and I rode it. Hopefully that grooming is an annual thing. :)

The newer Transition bikes like to have more weight toward the front end. Try moving your seat forward (start with a half inch) and maybe lengthen the stem 5 or 10mm. They made the reach longer on the new models which means the center of gravity moved forward a bit. Try moving up a bit and see how it handles for you. The Sentinel is considered more of an Enduro type steed so it's not going to handle slower/tighter trails as well as the Smuggler did. It will shine brightly on the downhills in the mountains.

And yes, I'm a Transition fanboy. I've got a decent collection of them.

Thanks for the tips I will try them out.

edit - but overall I'm pretty happy with it so far. The floppiness on corner entry seems like a fair trade for precision mid-corner, and enduros are good for me anywhere. I'm a big guy that can pedal anything uphill but has an issue with going over the handlebars on downhills. :)

That's awesome! Congratulations!

We rode our bikes to the mountains. That makes them mountain bikes, right?

Haha yes I remember meeting you guys! I don't remember who was on which bike, but they all looked nice. :) That Levo is a different bike than you posted on page one of this thread, right? Did you get a new one?

I did. Sold my Scott E-spark and got a 21 Levo comp. My wife also rides a Levo. They are such a blast at Sherman's!

I’m interested in this bike for hitting the trails near my place. Thoughts on the price and components? What should I ask the seller? Really looking for something to mix in with running and if I don’t care for riding again I’ll sell at the end of the summer.

Thank you in advance.

Well that’s a pretty niche bike IMO. It’s a rigid single speed. Before getting into to MTB I’d always ridden single speed on BMX bikes. It’s quite different on a MTB because if the terrain. Try one before buying one.
A rigid bike has no suspension. The upside of this is weight savings and better power transfer to the ground. The down side is an amateur rider will have a rougher ride. High volume tires or “Plus” tires can help a bit.
I would probably look at something else for your first bike.

Thanks for the info. I’ve had bikes in the past (fixed gear and road bike) and always preferred the fixie but in the end hated riding on the roads unless it was city traffic which was fun to me. The goal is to have fun and strengthen my knees and quads. I’m in pretty decent shape and want to take advantage of the “backcountry” trails nearby. They are fairly smooth dirt trails with few trees if any.
