What Did You Do In The Garage Today?

I did that about 10 years ago. Gave most of it away for Christmas. Might ought to to it again. Problem is if I made it today it wouldn't be ready for a few years.

Well to start with , you need to scale up production, lol

But for the first 4-10 years you make gin and give that away

switched my mower from bagger to a mulch setup, did the front and a reasonable chunk of the back
changed my wife's oil and confirmed just how MUCH i hate oil filters that screw in from the bottom. one of these days i'll find a way to not make a mess with them.
then i saw my oil catch pan/can split at the seam and make a small mess... fortunately i keep cardboard boxes in the garage for just that reason.

redeemed the afternoon by firing 50rds through a new-to-me 22 pistol.

Tell me when you find a way. I've tried to
loosen/tighten,
wait for the oil to drain,

Argh, a mess.

I guess you could try drilling a hole in the bottom of the filter and let it drain before you take it off? But that would probably make a mess too!

Wait, what? Guess I need to explain what I mean by up/down.

Up = threads up. No issues, oil stays in with little spillage.
Down = threads down. Gravity is a PITA.

I do like the "make a hole" idea...

I don't know that i've ever NOT dropped one which just makes a whole different sort of mess on the floor.
I'm thinking to do the loosen, wait, then put a bucket RIGHT up under it to let it fall in to. that should catch most of it...

oh, and usually when it falls it splashes on me in some way. and i never remember my safety glasses.

No point getting oil all over your drill. If you have to, use a sharp punch and hammer.

Or just make the mess, get out the kitty litter, grind it in with a brick, sweep it up. Mess gone.

Easy use a punch, works wonderfully.

There's a patent filed for an oil filter drain tool but I haven't seen the specific design sold. https://patents.google.com/patent/US5390823

I just loosen a bit and let it drain and keep doing that until it's all the way off. Although I may try the hole punch thing on my motorcycle. The filter is perpendicular to the ground and runs down the center stand when you loosen it. I can't get a drain pan close because of the center stand. I never thought of punching a hole in it to let drain first.

best thing for making oil drain where you want it.

My first thought is to duct tape some foil just under the filter, use the foil to direct the flow of oil. When you're done, remove and toss. Maybe. Might not be room for that idea either.

I do that sometimes too.

I was chuckling to myself as i pressure washed some oil spots in the driveway yesterday.

The layer of oil in dads garage used to get so thick we'd periodically scrap it, and i don't ever recollect worrying about it.

The guy that had it said that it leaked oil. I got it all cleaned up today to see if it is normal oil dripping from being slung off the chain or if the tank or line is leaking. Either way, should not take much to fix.

Thats a smoking deal for 40 bucks.
i'd have bought that set for that price
I'll probably try again to get my 16" refurb ryobi working tomorrow. the chain brake spring was too tight to release, and i might have disassembled some parts i shouldn't ought to have...

replaced 7/9 of the capacitors on my cruise control circuit board for the MR2
two to go. Im exhausted and one of the 2 I cant see a stripe on it to know orientation, so I said to hell with it.
After I did 5 of them I thought Id try it out and it seemed to be working.
So I did 2 more before calling it quits.

I'll do more later, but wanted to get this before i took off to VA.

Also, earlier I got the AC switched from R12 to R134, so now I have good air. My system was low on r12

Got two of the cars inspected before the end of month extension, my regular guys are close for some reason so I went to a used car sales lot that does inspections, in and out in about 10 minutes and renewed the plates. One car had a bulb out for the plate, I borrowed one from the dome light and the inspector liked that idea. ;)

Cruise didnt work on the way home. So I dont know, I'll replace the two other capacitors this week and see

Things are coming along with my winch bumper. I paid a local retired guy to weld up a freshly cut Rev 2 of my design. He did a good job and welded it up nice and straight. I bent the tube yesterday afternoon and MIG welded it into the notches that I made for it. Still ugly welds but look OK after a little grinder/sander/file work. lol.

This morning my son helped me test fit it and it actually bolted up easily and came out all level and centered and stuff. I'm pretty happy about that considering Rev 2 was built completely off of the truck.

Shorty Shortpants the Corgi isn't super impressed with it though. He can be judgemental at times.

I'm going to do a couple of diagonal uprights from the lower center up to the bar for support.

Apparently, since I can’t sleep... my mind thinks it’s a good idea to look at Dodge hellcats. I’m half convinced to move the vette for a hellcat. Only problem is I enjoy backroads just as much as going fast in a straight line.

Maybe I should look at the 911s...

Sounds like a wide body hellcat with some sticky rubber would fit the bill nicely!

The Widebody puts me into another class of car range. You can buy a whole lotta car for 80k+. I’d pick up a 15 Porsche 911 or a 17 GTR.

Yep truth spoken. I mean 1800 horses is very easy on a GTR and boy do they like to hug turns

I’m not going to lie. I’ve wanted a GTR for about 20 years now :) I considered one before the Tesla but I wanted something to commute in. I’ll probably end up giving it more thought but hellcat and gtr high on the list.

It’s amazing how much more room I now have in my west facing garage after evicting the SCrew truck in favor of the new two wheeled toy.

Now I need to buy one of those big honking fans from Northern Tool so I can tolerate hanging out in there after two PM in the afternoons.
