So I happened upon a news flash about the hurricane and it just made my heart sink.

Miami to close beaches and parks as this lame storm approaches.

Why? One of the great pleasures I've had in life is walking the beach or surfing before a hurricanes arrival. It is not necessary to close the beaches. We are no longer free to enjoy life. We are in a cage. We no longer enjoy freedom as a people.

Close the beach? Why? What possible reason is there for closing a beach or a park? I'm so sick to my stomach of this idea that we need mother government to survive. Sick.

While it’s still 2plus days out it looks like damn if it’s not heading for Oriental and land as Hurricane ... level 1 or 2. Morehead and the Outer Banks are right in however you pronounce it’s names sight for now ... please let it drift east a little and just skim the coast at most. First week of August ... 2020 keeps on giving.

This really sucks b/c the family has had 2 beach vacations cancelled this year b/c of the COVID mess (by rental owners, not us). We finally gave up and went with a condo at Salter Path. Leaving Sunday...
Heartbreaking really. Family has been hyping this for weeks.

Psssh! We would have just surfed it anyway, closed beach or not. You know it. Running from the rain on the beach as a kid at 3pm every day. Riding my bike to the beach with a board under my arm. (Boca Raton)

I get what your saying and I agree 100%. I'm tired of being saved from myself at every turn. Don't eat the silica gel packs, coffee is hot, beach is closed. Remove all warning labels and it's population control right?

take the money you would have spent on the trip and buy everybody something they've been wanting for a while. a short shopping spree for a staycation. You don't get the memories, but everybody gets something in-hand to keep them sane a little longer. Everybody who's made it this far deserves some kind of little reward. some deserve bigger.

Well ... whatever it’s name is has had an updated path shift ... a little more western projection ... now Wilmington looks like it might be the target. It’s still predicting a Monday evening landing so it will shift again so who knows?

IMO, it started with the belief that health care had to be provided to anyone and everyone, whether they could afford it or not. And I'm not at all certain when that went from a belief to a doctrine.

That, in essence, removed the consequences from people "enjoying life" as you put it. It put the bill on the tax payers who prop up the health institutes with grants and other ways of paying them back for work on the uninsured and others who cannot pay.

Since it is now the governments responsibility to take care of you if you hurt yourself they become your defacto parent and it is seen as their duty to protect you from yourself.

Seatbelt laws, helmet laws, stay at home orders etc etc etc.

Beach, with family??....I’d call it a blessing.

Reactions: Me.
My daughter was planning a trip with friends to Avon And now they’re closing the lower OBs down.

I got sent home as well; spent the first night of my nine night beach vacation there last night and wife wanted to come home this morning. As I passed over the Emerald Isle bridge at 0930, I looked down at the marsh, calm as it could be. If you look closely I'm sure I could have actually seen the redfish and trout laughing at me. My kayak, in the bed of the truck, hauled from Cary and now back without ever leaving the truck.

So, is it coming anywhere close to us/y'all?

It seems to have slowed a little moving in (heavier stuff late Monday early Tuesday now) as well as be losing some steam ... likely not landing as a hurricane but more a tropical storm mid-SC coast and kinda running up along just east of I-95. Lots of rain and pretty stout wind but not what they were thinking 2-3 days ago. Still batten down things and keep safe!

I got my generator running and cord routed today, so hopefully that means no power outages. ;)

Couldn't like your post, if it follows the path you mentioned it'll run over top of us.
I got the generator out day before yesterday and powered the barn by it to put a load on it. Barn no longer has power since the she-shed was delivered, had to disconnect the power because I couldn't be certain the shed guy wouldn't run a hurricane anchor through the line.
Two birds, one stone thing.

I'm going to have to figure out how to get the genny on the garden cart by myself, so I can pull it up to the house if it's needed.
Easy peasy...

Spent the last hour trying to find my generator cord. should have been on to of the genny under the tarp.

I give up,

If I need power I guess I'll run a couple of 12 gauge cords into the house to the fridge and whatever else she wants to power.

My lazy tail has yet to get a gen outlet wired up, extension cords for us too

I moved the generator to the back porch, secured with a couple chains and locks.
Trimmed a branch that was leaning on the power line about 20ft from the house. Big doings for a fat guy with bad knees, had to get out the step ladder.
Previously bought a generator cord that plugs into the big outlet on the genny, has 4 plugs on the inside end. I'll put it through the kitchen window if it's needed.
Gathered up the extension cords and put them all in the conex, along with the mower! It drove up the ramp without hanging up after I put 2 cap blocks at the low end.
As ready as can be for now, big crap hits about 2am.

I gave up at 4:30, went to the local hardware store and paid too much for a 25' roll of 10/3 and the 1 plug didn't have a spare of. I'm not building it until I need it.

Generator is fueled and I have 10 gallons of extra fuel. Even know where my suicide cord is. All the vehicles are topped off as well.
