2020 hurricane thread

There are several structures on fire in Ocean Isle Beach/oak island. Mutual aid called in from Myrtle Beach/Horry County.

I thought I smelled smoke. Wind really picked up from the west a short time ago. I think we passed through the eye. It got calm, and the storm surge put about two inches of water in my Man Room downstairs. I think a few cardboard boxes of bullets on the floor may have been soaked, but most of my other stuff was safe. I will feel better when the wind calms a bit because the lot next door has some large pine trees.

Yes you did go through the eye and it is pulling away from you now. Tornadoes touched down just north of Oak Island/Southport area earlier.

Power went out, here in Lumberton, about 30 minutes ago. I woke up when my CPAP lost power. Generator is up and running now. Y'all stay safe.

They were calling for 3-5 inches of rain and winds up to 50 mph here in Florence. Its 100 am and we have had pretty much nothing unless I slept through something. Just woke up from a little nap before going to bed. Must have gone east of us. We had more action with a thunderstorm last night than with the hurricane. Hope everyone else is as fortunate

Pretty much the same here, we got around 3.5" of rain and worst I saw were a few gusts before hitting the bed.

We had some rose petals on the driveway this morning, didn't see so much as a stick blown down in the yard.

Looks like Isaias was strong in a tiny kinda way, and never expanded like they do when the go Extra-Tropical... up here it's like it never existed, little rain and no wind.

Woke up to no power around 3 this am and this down in the yard.

Better than the next county over. Tornados destroyed a trailer park and there are reportedly fatalities but unconfirmed so far.

I haven't walked the yard yet, but all I can see are a few sticks and leaves blown down.

sunflowers around the pool got hit pretty hard. most are at odd angles and some are just plain flat now
but if that's the worst, great. now i know to plant earlier and don't expect them to survive the season

well. I know now why you should not raise indeterminate tomatoes in buckets! :(

Lost 3 plants and lots of tomatoes in various stages of ripening. About 1/3 of them just got pushed over!

I guess that is the way of life. Mistakes are the best teachers. I realize there is a REASON people use Tee posts and cattle panel for trellising. Off to Lowes to fix it.

1.5 in of rain. one rotted branch from the poplar fell.

take the ones that even have the slightest tinge of red and set on a window sill.. they will eat in a few days.

Fried green tomatoes, yummy!

No power yet, but generator has provided much needed coffee pot operation. One is none and two is one. The small genny that I use for almost everything, great on fuel, quit producing electricity. Seems to be in the circuit breaker. The big genny is handling everything now.

We just got power back. I used a 12 volt battery and a power converter for my CPAP. There are lots of limbs in the yard. The neighbors lost a John boat from a lift, the floating end of their pier, and a small greenhouse but did have a small boat fetch up on their dock. It was a wild night.

My family is between Shallotte and Holden Beach. Power went out last night and still out according to the wife. Don't know how her chickens fared in the backyard yet.

Lost one medium sized maple branch and power flickered a few times here in northwest Pender county. It’s my vacation week and I’m grateful it wasn’t worse. Still spent all day yesterday getting ready.

I just looked outside, all seems good. I heard a lot of nothing last night. It rained a bit, I have no idea how much. I don't feel like going to have a look at the river to see how high it is. If it's real high, someone will post about it on the family/friends FB page.

I hope everyone with damage can get it fixed up fast and that nothing irreplaceable was damaged.
