So I am not a 22LR guy. I own a few but don’t shout them often. In the past I found myself getting bored while shooting them due to no recoil and tame actions. Once I had ok trigger control it was not needed as a trainer and dry firing was as effective for free practice. That said with times as they are I was looking at a Kadet kit for my Shadow 2 so I can shoot a known platform with a known trigger etc...

I then went to look for mor 22LR Ammo and it seems as if it had caught COVID like 9mm. It’s out of stock and the prices seemed high. There was no $.03-$.04 bulk ammo that I could find. Lots of ammo in the $.08-$.09 range but for that I can almost reload 9mm. If that is the new normal the Kadet kit is not worth the price of entry.

So what is the current going rate?

The Kadet Conversion is one of the best centerfire to rimfire conversions out there and you will not be disappointed. For a .22lr conversion kit ammo can get real picky ... and MiniMags are usually the answer not cheap bulk stuff. My 2 conversions will run somewhat on other high velocity stuff ... standard velocity stuff usually is just not enough no matter what manufacturer ... but they still have fairly frequent malfunction in feeding and ejection but MiniMags cut seem to be way better and cut malfunctions way down.

Side note (and some people might disagree) a lot of bulk stuff, especially Remington Bucket ‘O Bullets Golden Bullet bulk stuff, tends to be filthy and will cause failures from that and I’d never run that crap in a conversion kit or a suppressor. For best function ... unless you wants to practice clearing feeding or extraction failures ... use MiniMags or a similar quality ammo of similar velocity.

I havent seen any $.04 round in a long time. For precision target work about the best low end stuff will be $.10/round and goes up to $.40 or better per round. If you want accuracy and consistancy that's the price. Even the $.10/round stuff has flyers.

This is more for plinking under 50 yards. I am not a precision shooter with any ammo or gun. LOL

I ran some golden bullet over the chronograph this weekend, extreme spread was 188fps in a 4" barrel. That's a HUGE delta, like 15% at the velocities it's running. You can hear and feel the difference as you shoot it. I've got a lot so I'll keep using it, but you're right in that it tends to cause failures. Those super light ones won't cycle and sometimes they're so light I actually take the gun apart and check for a squib. None yet, but it still freaks me out.

For good ammo - I think you are looking at .07-.09 per round (cci mini mags, eley, etc). For bulk ammo, you are probably more in the .03-.05 per round range (cci blazer is my go to bulk ammo).

Well #1 it's OOS at a nickel per round, and it's basically their bulk HV offering. When Aguila started sticking in some of my Savage and Marlin bolt guns, it was time to quit buying it. I was a huge fan of their SV and subsonic ammo.
The priming is Eley and it smells like super glue, so I don't really miss it. CCI SV and Blazer, and Fed Red/Blue 500+ packs do everything I need in a rimfire.

Now is the perfect time to sell that junk Rem GB and buy something better when things calm down. You’ll probably make a buck while you’re at it.

.22lr seems to have almost doubled, from 4-5cpr to now 7-10cpr when you can find it. My LGS has some CCI blazer on the shelf for 10cpr ($5/50). That said, I don’t think I’d sell a gun or conversion based on this market bubble.

Last Mini Mags I bought (maybe a month or so ago) were $7.50/100 at Walmart.

MiniMags almost never drop under $7 per 100 ... and people will google them up at up to $9-$10 per 100 sleeve because it is an excellent high velocity rimfire ammo that most people measure other ammo by. I admit I have a few cases on hand and will still buy a few sleeves if the price is good and I have $20 in my pocket.

Possibly, but I would prefer to just shoot it now and replace when "things calm down". I don't expect things to calm for a long time, we've all lived through enough of these I would think.

What's weird about this one is it's not politically induced, or wasn't to start with. No shooting, no politicians threatening, nothing... just some violence. That's new. The political panic won't start for another week. :)

I found some Aguila High velocity for $127.97 for 2000 delivered. With 10% back from Active Junky

I held my nose and cleaned out all the CCI and Winchester 22LR from the Huntersville Walmart last week. A whopping 1300rds at average .07 per round. Had to re-up on 22 CB shorts also, which have been cheaper than they were.

Might trade you. 22lr for a pizza oven. :p

+1 for Aguila. It's what shoots the best in my S&W M&P 15-22. Definitely the most reliable choice in it. Should do well for you if you get it!

Also, the CZ Kadet kit looks awesome. I definitely want to hear how it goes for you if you get one!

Last Mini Mags I bought (maybe a month or so ago) were $7.50/100 at Walmart.
Today I found two boxes of Mini Mags at the local WM. And yes, this time I’m sure they were Mini Mags. ;)

It doesn't work well in any of my semi auto .22s. The Aguila standard velocity rounds are very accurate for mass production rounds.

I'm in the minority but I like Remington golden bullet .22s. They work well for me and are accurate. I don't like CCI Blazers, always a problem.

I have about half a brick of Aguila SV left, and I noticed its spec'd at 1130 fps. That's kinda high, I expect SV to be subsonic and that's right on the borderline, which shouldn't be that great for accuracy but it seems to shoot fine. The rest of my SV is CCI at 1050 fps. :)

I sold 3 1400 round buckets, Monday of golden bullets, they would not work in my CP33. Federal Auto match 40grain runs great in the quad stack mags, Aguila also works well, as does Blue box Federal stuff and subs

Ammo manufacturers have historically not gotten profit margins on 22LR compared to 9mm, 556, 45acp, etc.. therefore they are not quick to respond to demand and change tooling and resources. This is the main reason there was a a buying frenzy in 2015-2018. When the demand for the popular cartridges slowed the manufacturers returned to lower priced product of the 22LR. The problem with that is when more powerful ammo prices dropped so did demand on 22LR as a alternative for shooting fun.

Well here we are again. High ammo prices on all calibers and no stock. 22LR has doubled or more and high again on the most wanted list. When ammo supplies get somewhat better my personal opinion is 22LR will lag very far behind. I say years for supply and price normalcy whatever that becomes.

In the last week I've picked a couple boxes of MiniMags ($7.50/100) for another member, and a brick of CCI SV, $35, for me at WM.
They're trickling out.
Yesterday Ed's had Large pistol and rifle primers and powder.
