Got a phone call the other day from a customer saying he was having new almost new Grand Cherokee towed into our dealership and that hit hit a puddle and the car stalled out with lots dash lights flashing and wondered if was underwarranty.. This is what got dropped off by the towing company. 3 inches of water/mud inside of the air box. Engine locked up and lots more chassis damage,, the initial damage estimate is nearing $20K . Notice the 30 day temp tag? People are funny.. mud truck.jpg

Could be my 17 year old son. I told him to avoid water when going off-road. He said he thought this was just mud. He spent days cleaning including stripping the interior. Every time he washes it in the driveway there is still mud and rocks that come out and this was 2 months ago. He also tore the fender and fender flare up. Fortunately he has a friend he paid that works at a body shop that fixed things cheap. Hopefully a good lesson learned that did not end up near as bad as that Jeep.

Would that be totaled with his insurance or he is going to be on the hook. I had an old ranger when I was about 20 and took it off road one night. Hit a hole and got the distributor wet. It died almost immediately and didn’t start until everything dried out. I learned my lesson that night.

He made into the mud hole a good amount, until he didn't.. Im betting the first thing he thought of when it nosedived was " Dads gonna be mad "

Up date,, Last estimate was $24K. Obviously not under Jeeps warranty so he filed a claim with his auto insurance company. They came out, inspected the car and denied his claim because it was not accident related and him just being dumb. So now,, hes still paying on a very expensive vehicle for many years thats trashed. Add insult, I bet they jack up his insurance rate due to high risk..

My cousin is a car salesman in Indiana. One of the vehicles he sells are jeeps. He says he always smiles when he sells one, not cause he made a sale but because he know that same person will be back very soon to buy again.

At least the Nissan that my buddy nose dived into the hole was old and paid for and had drain holes in the bottom. But it still got the $100 Pioneer Amp
