Just how many waivers did he have to have to reenlist.

It comes down to the number of years he spent on active duty. You can subtract every year from your age and if that gets you under the current age (used to be 35) for active duty but Reserved have way different rules.

You have to be able to retire by a certain age (62 I believe) to enlist at an advanced age and I think generally the cap for an initial enlistment is 42. He was able to do so because of the 17 years he already had in. Why he didn't reenlist at the 17 year point is beyond me.

No doubt. Never intended to be a lifer, but once I found myself with over 10 years in I figured I was over halfway there & it'd be silly to just throw away all that time.

I had a long sarcastic comment in here, but deleted it...
This guy worked hard for over a year to get back in and ultimately had to go through his congressman to force the Army to let him back in, as his age waiver was initially disapproved...the Army didn't want him back.
He is not the oldest to go back through basic...that title belongs to a 68 year old back in July 1999, in the ARNG when the rules were a bit different.

I would die now, at almost-52. I just can't.

The officer corps' have ridiculous age waivers; MDs and JAGs can join well into their 50s, they just have to sign a waiver saying they know they may not make it to retirement.

Yesterday I did some weed whacking yesterday and needed a sitdown in the shade. then i did some push mowing and needed to come inside and sit down and drink a cold bottle of water (after the nausea faded). I'm only 41.
Would you believe me if I claimed I had corona and now i can't breathe well anymore?

Makes sense. Being a lawyer is way different than being infantry.
