Food Lion finds US flag offensive

My town only has one grocery store. Until that changes, I have to keep going to the Food Lion...

Well, they're not the local company they once were.

People also ask
Who is Food Lion owned by?
Delhaize America

Food Lion is a company of Delhaize America, a U.S. division of Zaandam-based Royal Ahold Delhaize Group.

Playing devil's advocate here...

Was the employee supposed to be wearing a store provided mask? Maybe a Food Lion logo'd mask? Something akin to a uniform? IOW, would he have been asked to remove the mask if it were Hello Kitty or a Rainbow as well?

He had worked at WITN at some point, too. I read another article, which left me confused (admittedly, my natural state): Food Lion says it's part of the dress code; yet, he has been wearing it for a long time.

"News Channel 12 reached out to Food Lion and was told the company “prohibits associates from wearing clothing with writing, insignia, or symbols.”"

Get a flag mask and wear it there. If they say something tell them it is the only one you have.

Haha. They are not turning away customers.

They have an employee handbook that explains what is and is not appropriate uniform items. The guy was asked to remove it. He refused. He got fired.

Even the US military would have made a member remove a US flag mask, if it didn't fit within their uniform handbook.

I think this is a non issue. The dude chose to get fired. Nobody will remember this in 2 months...

I really don't like that particular Food Kitty. Perhaps Lowe's or HT (both of which are more expensive) up 15/501. It's not that much farther. Or even Piggly Wiggley in Siler City?

My daughter's do Kung Fu lessons beside Lowes Foods on 15 501... On the days that I take them to Kung Fu, I shop Lowes and have a beer at the bar inside. Bob and Vicky are nice people and they tend bar there. I've made friends with several of the regulars.

And the bar just got a huge renovation upgrade, and they have a walk in beer cave with a huge selection.

You can order a beer or glass of wine and sip it while you do your grocery shopping.

HOLY CRAP!

A British company owns Food Lion, and they have Food Lion grocery stores all over Europe and Indonesia... I don't think I like this, at all...

I just checked. LOWES FOODS is owned by Alex Lee, an American company headquartered right here in NC.

I'd rather keep my money local, and some investment company in UK ain't local...

I'm done with Food Lion, not because of the mask, but because I choose to support American companies. (and because Lowes Food has the bar) haha...

I’m running outta places to shop.
If you want bananas in Havelock, you can buy them from Food Lion (German), Lidl (German), or Wong-Mart, who buys stuff from Communists, sells it to us, and then donates the money to the Marxists over at Burn Loot Murder.

I am offended that they are appropriating a lion, lions have feelings.

Yes, if they had allowed other face masks that would be one thing. I cannot hate food lion for this situation when they had given everyone the same dress code.

I heard on the Mike Gallagher radio show, Disney World turned away an elderly couple in Orlando last weekend. The wife was wearing an American flag mask. Sad times.

Now that is a little different because you're a customer which would be a different set of rules. That said Disney also turned away a family who's daughter 6-7 had autism and dr's notes and legal exemptions saying she couldn't wear a mask.

I would hate to see a reaction to my masks with certain words on them, though the people in the ABC store didn't bat an eye at my "attempting to give a ___" mask! LoL. I have others that are much ruder than that!

When Food Lion 1st told employees they had to wear masks they said no images, faces, logos anything, just plain colors. Some stores didn't enforce it but most did. He may have gotten away with it but it was against the policy.

Some customer complained (probably some sympathizer so they had to tell him he can't wear it due to the complaint and company policy.

He then quits and goes put it on Facebook blast which created a huge uproar locally. Next thing you know local TV stations started interviewing him and now it has gotten way bigger clearly if it made it to Asheville.

He has already backtracked and says he wish he didn't put on social media, doesn't want the company to take the crap they have been getting. Too late!

It was only for Food Lion employees, not customers. They don't even make customers wear masks (smart enough to know the ADA rules).

Little do people know that Lowes Food, Publix and Harris Teeter have the same policy but folks are like I'll only shop there now ‍♂️. I do like Lowes cause its an NC company, for now, but I still shop at my local kitty.

They should allow the American flag for employee in my opinion. If anyone doesn't like it or is offended they can go to hell!
