Anyone have suggestions on what I might have screwed up on my HVAC unit. Yesterday I installed new digital control and thermostat. Long story short I followed all the instructions in the package only to get it installed to find out it was not compatible with my unit (I did check before I purchased the thermostat and according to the website it should have been compatible). I removed the new unit and reinstalled the old one. Now the AC compressor isn't coming on. What should I check next?

Is there an O/B terminal or switch in the new thermostat?

Or you inadvertently touched 2 wires and tripped, blew the transformer or transformer fuse.

If you must change it yourself take the model/serial to an hvac supply and let them sell you one, or at least get the model # and buy elsewhere.

Pretty much anything havc you buy from a big box store is CRAP

Wire it with the breaker OFF. ;)

Some of the HVAC companies around here didn't always follow the standard color codes for wiring thermostats. They did it that way so you would have to call them to get things changed out and you couldn't do it yourself.

Ain’t that a bunch of crap ?!

We’ve had a few large companies come in and reset chillers , UPSs and Fire panels with codes or passwords and had to call them to get them when we had emergency’s.
They’d send s guy in to have him punch it in then balk that we’d say to set it back..
Then they try to charge a service fee.
More than once we’d pull a multi 6 figure annual PO from them. And tell them to kick rocks.

Thanks everyone, I went back checked all fuses and breaks, all good. Check the capacitor, good. Started retracing my steps when I changed it back over and I must have had a loose connections somewhere, because all the wires where right. Once I I put it all back together it came right on. Good idea about going to a true HVAC company for the thermostat. I took pictures of my wiring inside the old one and will make a visit tomorrow. Thanks everyone.

I used to do component level repair of medical imaging equipment. It’s shocking how often the take it apart and put it back together method works.

Good job!
