My friend’s son was home asleep on his non school rotation day this morning. He is 11 years old. He heard nothing but noticed his bedroom door open knowing he always shuts it each night. Someone broke into the house between 7am-9:30am.

They got the hair clippers and cut their hair leaving the hair on the floor. They took a shower, helped themselves to his clothes, had breakfast, and tracked mud on the carpet. His son never woke up. So far all that is missing is the hair clipper kit. A back window was broken to gain access. This was in downtown Newton, NC about a half mile from me.

The friend is my son-in-laws brother. He owns one 9mm Taurus he recently purchased and the son has been to the range with him to shoot. I guess the son-in-law will soon come to me about a gun finally. They probably are not sleeping well tonight and I can see why. Their father nor any of the three sons have never owned or shot a gun until this one guy recently made a purchase. Of course they are from New Jersey where no guns are needed. Welcome to reality folks.

Id drive around looking for a panhandler with a fresh haircut

Yep getting a pretty good look at who it could be would be easy.
You should have possible ethnicity, Hair color and approximately how short their hair is maybe even male or female. Probably pretty easy for officers to rule out their local homeless. Definitely seems like opportunity vs targeted.

Glad no harm to the boy.
If the guy looked into the bedroom and saw the boy (door open when it was closed that night) he apparently was not deterred by his presence. That’s either very brave or he was on drugs. Now the question is will you leave the boy home the days he has virtual school? Will the child ever feel comfortable at home alone again?

If they find a suspect...... a DNA match should be pretty easy.

Doubt they’d go that far but ya never know. Think you need a hair root for that as well right?

Perhaps it was his discovery that caused the intruder to leave.

Lemme guess....no security cameras around the house???

Between the kitchen and bathroom stuff, I guarantee he left DNA, prints, fiber, etc... if they go after it. It's a definite felony burglary count.
I'm just glad they left the kid alone, took what they wanted, and left.
Obviously, the family doesn't have dogs. Dogs are the single best deterrent for anything involvimg your home or property.

11 seems a little young to be leaving them at home alone.
I know most of your mommas left you at home alone at three. :p

You can add "Break in their house" to Clint Smith's theory on turning anti gunners....Beat the Shiite outta them.

Oh no I was almost fully grown. I was 6 with my sisters 8 and 10. Back then it was rare to hear of crime other than outdoor item theft. But look how we have progressed with technology.

Nope. And I confess I only have two. That’s going to change for me when I get some down time.

No one has thought this story is so odd that it might not be true?

Don’t know any details other than they caught the guy who broke in to the house. He took clothes, shoes, and pillows after his bath. He came in by breaking a screened window which was not locked but I’m getting second hand info. There is another interesting thing but I will wait on details.

The 11 year old doesn’t want to go back to his house now. He stayed with my daughter and her husband last night I believe. The kid is their nephew.

wow

i was sure in these times the story would end with the parents getting arrested for neglect and the B&E guy getting a medal for reporting it...

I have a basically empty house that I’m renovating and it was broken into about 6 months ago. Only 2 things missing were a vacuum cleaner and about 10-12 frozen dinners that had been in the freezer about 3 years. Ate one while at the house and took the rest. I was thankful he/they helped my lazy ass clean out the freezer but kicked in 2 doors in the process. Hopefully it made them sick

One other detail. Apparently the guy was a strange street walker who neighbors were always watching and he was on the suspect list as always snooping houses during the day.

My (now) wife (gf at the time) was present for a home invasion. She was there with a broken leg. I think I’ve posted this story before, but anyway, I had gone to class and for some reason I set the alarm system to be fully active downstairs and to bypass the upstairs motion sensor so she could move around. I had never done that before and don’t know why I stopped and did that before going that day. Anyway, she heard a knock or pounding at the front door and thought our friend who lived downstairs had locked himself out, again. She pulled back the curtain on the door and saw two big black guys. They saw her and started trying to kick down the door, but the 100 year old, true 2x4 oak construction held. They tried and cracked the frame of the back door before coming in a window, setting off the alarm instantly and went back out the window.

She spent several nights at her grandmother’s house before she would come back and I lay there restless just waiting for the alarm siren to go off. The feeling was of total violation. I feel sorry for anyone whose home is burglarized. It leaves you, violated, at a base level and way.

It is an awful feeling, and you might never feel entirely safe in your own home again, sadly. I know I don't.

Sorry you had that experience. :(

It messes with you in long standing ways. Two decades later, in a different home, in a different state, I would go on a work trip and she’d sleep on the couch with a bunch of kitchen knives. Didn’t matter how much I told her that being upstairs with the alarm set such that nobody could come in without setting it off .... she couldn’t release that fear.

It led me to getting my CC permit and getting training and getting on this forum and making friends, and loving to shoot, and feel like I gained a little bit of control back, so it wasn't a total loss, I guess.....lol.
"Liked" your reply as in sympathy for her feeling of violation......

Update: Bobby Joe is a 39 year old black male with a looooong criminal record. He was out on bail (as usual) with four pending charges. He was being chased on foot by the police for this or something and a search of mommy and sissy’s home resulted in finding the families clothing and shoes. Bobby is being bailed out again by Sissy so he can lead a more pure life. Don’t you love all the feely magistrates and judges. And Republican at that on the ticket. Hmmmm.

In the mean time another black male in black pants and a black hoody is breaking into houses behind me. Hopefully someone pops his ass and ends the cost of his crimes, incarceration, court appointed attorney, and whatever else taxes pay for.

Failed logic that's it is less expensive to let these repeat offenders bond out. Taxpayers pay the price as crime victims.

Go ahead and come around my place, or better yet, get close to this boy and she’ll eat your arm up to your elbow before you know it’s gone! Then run...fast...she likes fast food! I’ve often said that when she’s in my truck, I leave the door unlocked. If someone besides me opens it, they’ll have a huge surprise!
