There's no carbon in the pipes. I can't fault the shine on that machine, but you're supposed to ride it too I think.
I put those pipes on a week ago. I’m going in for the 1000 mile service next week. Of course, it is supposed to be 46 degrees that morning

Too much, actually. I guess to keep the EPA happy. I get some pre-ignition pinging at 3/4 to WOT, not that I do that much, but I’d like for it not to do that. It’s not "hard knocking", and much less noticeable with the Rineharts installed, but it ought not do that. I’m hoping they’ll address that this week when I have it in. I’m certainly going to point it out.

Heated gear will be the best accessory that you ever spend any money on. I personally like Warm and Safe. I think HD dealers carry Gerbing?

None. Everyone on the Harley forums, including the manufacturer of those slip-on pipes says no tune necessary with just slip-ons. Harley is saying the same thing. It still has the cat in the head pipe.

And if I screw with the tune it can void the warranty. I am otherwise happy with it stock. I hope they’ll richen it up for me a smidge.

How much heat is generated by the cat? My 2010 was like sitting on a charcoal grill until I removed it. But, mine was air cooled, too. There was a huge amount of difference in the heat generated between my 88 2004 and the 103 2010.

I’ve got heat deflectors on the way that supposedly make a lot of difference. I have a riding buddy that is a retired motorcycle cop driving a 2014 dresser with the heat deflectors. He says it makes a huge difference.

Mine had the fairing lowers. I had to take them off until I got some new plumbing. I got mine at Thunder Tower at Columbia and my wife rode back home with her right leg held out. It was burning her foot on the floorboard.
I put on V&H true dual head pipes with Rinehart slip ons. The heat dropped considerably. I have no dealings with the water cooled engines, though.

I think if I change the head pipe along with no cat that it would probably require a tune at that point due to the decrease in back pressure. If HD doesn’t do it, or it is not done with Screaming Eagle tuner I think it voids the warranty, which is currently two years.

I was thinking yours would be water cooled now. Told you I was out of touch.
Yeah, you would need a re-tune if you go cat free.

Those red reflector tag bolts, I had blue ones on a litre sportybike and a cop pulled me over all pissed about the blue. Said someone might think I was a cop. Yeah right. Total fisherman. I think what really got him was the tag on that bike said SMOKE U.
At least you were smart enough to get a new tag with the bike. I transferred my tag from a different bike and had to go to the dmv and battle their cooper-induced non-sense.

I've got the blue reflector bolts and a Thin Blue Line sticker on the back of my bike. Never had an issue with them. Plus, my bike looks like a police bike. The SCHP used to use the bike I have before they switched to BMW'S.

Slip on's should have about zero effect with the fuel metering. I'd think it would have about the same effect as an elevation change and the system would compensate.

Good call. My bike looked like one that did flat 10's in the quarter and topped out around 185.
Yeah. The cops didn't care much for that one.

It is, and I expect you are right, which is why I expect they say with slip-ons no tune is necessary.
 
I've always wanted a personalized tag on my bike, but the kind of stupid stuff I think of would just draw unwanted attention.
 
I've got a Blue Ridge Parkway tag on my bike. It's one of the old solid yellow ones not the new ugly ones with the big white block.

lol. Respectable for sure, but that's actually kind of meh compared to some bikes of today. A bone stock Suzuki Hayabusa does 194 off the showroom floor. Cut a certain wire in the loom and that becomes 205 mph. By sportbike standards they're a fat pig, but they dominate the drag strip. There's a guy here in town that has one all modded out for drag racing..stretched swingarm, big tire, twin turbo's, nitrous, (nitrous? seriously? :confused:) billet everywhere..a real beauty nicely done, but doesn't outright look the part. Very sleeper.
It does low 7 seconds 1/4 mile at 195+ mph. He says that's with the turbo boost at 12 psi, but if he cranks it up to 20 psi it gets 'real scary'.
And this bike is street legal! All he does is take off the wheelie bar.

yeah 185 is plenty fast for me...my post was in reference to the lyrics “my Maserati it does 185, I lost my license, now I don’t drive...”

Put some fork fangs on (fork mounted wind deflectors) and some soft lowers to see if they work. Supposed to be 40’s in the AM. Will give them a road test at speed.

You know these V twin kinda guys think they are on top of things with heated grips and a heated seat. I have neither.
 
Heated jacket liner, heated gloves and a dual heat troller and you can thank me later.

Harley stores sell Gerbing. Gerbing is ok but most serious riders will be using Warm n Safe because their customer service is second to none.
You can go to a Cycle Gear store and try on their First Gear brand, it is Warm n Safe.
