If we're following Hollywood's timeline 2001 A Space Oddesy had impressive space travel and AI super intelligence so somewhere along the line we got derailed. MIght have been Bill and Ted, a kid in a Delorian or the Hot Tub Time Machine at fault.

I know I'm not going to look good in chaps and junk Armour, that's for sure.
