Joanne and I went to a place today that was suggested by @kcult . How did @kcult know about a place in a tiny town in SETX, you ask? As it turns out, he has a friend about 2 hours from me.

I was checking on you both because of the hurricane.

Bada bing, bada boom. Mama Jack's.

@Geezer , today RS and I went to Florence to go to Cains.

Jeanne and I were in Florence yesterday and I was telling her about your compliments regarding Cain's BBQ..........we were not able to stop due to some Dr. appts but we'll catch them next time I hope.

Any of their dishes a favorite of yours or what is their signature dish?

Chicken Bog, Fried Chicken, Fried Fish, Meat Loaf, Ribs, BBQ and the best seasoned vegetables I've ever had "out". Noticed today the Butter Beans and Iron Clay Field Peas were seasoned with Okra. Didn't See any okra but the taste was there..delish. The best Hush Puppies on the Planet.

Please, let us know if you're going back that way and have time to spare. Only open on Thurs-Fri_Sat.

So, there's no need to go in and get 2 hush puppies as a test?

How’s the toast?

Bad Daddy’s. 10oz burger w/ buttermilk fried bacon. Tater tots. Yum-O!! BBQ sauce, chipotle ranch and some other kind of spicy ranch.

We moved to Bermuda Run in March, the incorporated part outside of the fence, and if you live in the Forsyth/Davie area and haven't tried Tanglewood Pizza, it is amazing! Most, if not all, of their stuff is farm to table. They have live music on the weekends, booze, all kinds of stuff. It can get kind of pricey but their food is great. Plus we live right behind it!

Not really a 'local' spot, but K&W is what Im doing for dinner tonight
Theyve closed a lot of locations lately and so I want to (possibly) enjoy it once more

Has anyone here eaten dinner at Lane's Seafood and Steak outside Angier, off 50 below McGees Crossroads?

I passed it yesterday while I was galavanting on my motor scooter and didn’t know about the place.

@Majicmike @Amp Mangum

Went to The Smoke Pit in Salisbury saturday. Had the burnt end sandwich and orka, All I can say is go hungry. We also had Brisket Ruben which looked great. Also locations in Concord Gastonia and Monroe
Dragon Sliders. Mmmmmmm.....

not sure which one that is (I know there’s one in Mt Pleasant and at least one in the Charlotte/Indian Land area) but I’ve eaten several times at the one in the Charlotte area and it’s phenomenal!

I read the first and last pages, so if I dupe anyone please consider it a 1+ lol

Tabor City, NC
Dale’s Seafood or Adams Seafood both on Highway 701 Bypass. As good Calabash style seafood as anywhere I’ve ever eaten and reasonable prices compared to “the beach”

Loris, SC
American Hero
Best subs I’ve ever eaten bar none, my favorites are the 18 (“grilled” chicken breast chunk, bacon and cheese) and their Philly (don’t remember the number for that one lol)

North Myrtle Beach
King Sushi (all you can eat sushi and hibachi made to order)

Miyabi Japanese Restaurant (Teppanyaki style)

Benitos Brick Oven

Conway SC
Maryland Fried Chicken-Hwy 501 (looks like it was built in 1968 and hasn’t been cleaned since but probably the best “out to eat” fried chicken I’ve ever had)

Toyama Hibachi and Wings-HWY 501 in the Office Depot strip, to the left of Walmart.
Closest quality/taste wise to Miyabi I’ve ever had and 1/4 of the price lol.

Bellissimo Italian Pizzaria (701 N in the Food Lion Plaza) I’ve probably eaten 80% of their menu over the past 5 years and there’s nothing I’ve had that I’d hesitate to order again.

Yeah, enjoy a meal...

I meant that as a jab at K&W. I was forced to eat K&W cafeteria frequently by my parents and never liked it. And often times we would be in line for what felt like hours, usually more like 30 minutes or so. We stood in line longer than it took us to eat.

Didn't read the whole thread, so don't know how many of you enjoy sushi.
There's a place in Raleigh called Hako that has amazing fresh sushi. It's off of Glenwood Ave if you're familiar with the area.
Used to drive down there to eat at least once a week. Haven't been there in over a year...ex got it in the divorce...:(.

Better than Asahi on West Market in Greensboro?

Not being a sushi connoisseur.... what's the difference between "amazing" sushi, and regular sushi?

Example, I eat and enjoy the sushi at any Asian buffet I go to. I can also pay more for sushi at a place like Wegmans, but can't tell you much of a difference, other than the lumpiness of the rice.

Are there leaps-and-bounds differences? If buffet sushi is like a McDonald's burger, is good sushi like a $40 steak?
I'm by no means a sushi expert.
If it tastes good, it's good.
If I can't get enough of it, it's amazing.
The main thing I notice is freshness.
And to me, you nailed it on the head as to the lumpiness of the rice. I like my rice not dry like some places I've visited.
I mostly eat raw fish when I go. So freshness is key.

I began enjoying sushi back when it was a rarity in the US. And, while I’m always ready for some”gas station sushi”, there’s a huge difference sitting at a sushi bar, before an experienced chef who has time to be involved in your meal.

Commodity outlets use a lot of frozen fish and the difference is immediately recognizable. They’re pumping out food to make as much as possible in the least amount of time, using as much of the fish as they can. When you’re before a serious sushi chef, he/she will be watching your reaction to the various offerings. If the chef notices that you understand and appreciate the creations, that’s when the magic begins.

While gas station sushi can be good, there is no cheap exceptional sushi. That stuff costs. My wife recently brought home a nice looking plate from Harris Teeter. Before even opening it, I could tell it was crap. The tuna was cut so thick it would be impossible to chew and was full of gristle. To make her happy, I tried one piece and immediately spit it back on the plate. When she took it back to the store manager (whom she knows), he took one look, apologized and opened the cash drawer.

I started going to Asahi’s predecessor more than 30 years ago. When Steve and Mickie opened Asahi, I was one of their first customers. I haven’t been there since Covid happened (not even sure they’re open). But, when I do go back, I’ll only have to sit down and nod at Steve...he’ll take it from there and I won’t be disappointed.

Sorry you asked? ;)

Several of us went to The Salt Water Grill's Sunday buffet. Heard nothing but Southern compliments [ This is good]. As opposed to Yankee compliments [Not too bad].
Even when giving a compliment Yankees speak in the negative.
Yes they do. :p

Boondoggies in yadkinville. Only open m-f till 8pm or so. No dine in right now, he would but he can't find enough help.

Damn good burgers.

Have you tried Sake in High Point? Me and my wife go there every now and then. I think @Chdamn and @Chdamn's Wife came with us one time. We just don't go to that side of Greensboro much but I'll try to remember Asahi if we are there.

It’s been many years. Not even sure it was the same name/ownership last time I tried it.

My brother in law. I could never get pass the consistency...
The first time I tried it, it was dreadful. It took me years to screw up the courage to try again. When I did, I realized the first batch was spoiled. Now, I’m addicted.

If anyone in or around Raleigh has a hankering for bone broth, Anise Pho makes a great broth and even sells it a la cart.

That place is incredible.
