Already? That was fast. The letter was supposedly sent from Canada, eh?

WASHINGTON — A woman suspected of sending a letter containing the deadly poison ricin to the White House was arrested trying to enter the United States from Canada, two federal law enforcement officials said Sunday.

An FBI spokesperson confirmed the arrest and said the agency is continuing to investigate the suspicious letter.

A federal law enforcement official said the woman was taken into custody while traveling across Peace Bridge, which connects Fort Erie, Ontario, and Buffalo, New York.

Another federal law enforcement official said the suspect was detained by Customs and Border Protection agents. Additional information about the arrest and the suspect was not immediately available.

The FBI said Saturday that it was investigating a suspicious letter addressed to President Donald Trump that had been intercepted.

It wasn’t clear when the letter was sent or where it was intercepted. Law enforcement officials said Saturday that the poison, which is highly toxic and can cause organ failure and death, was detected at an off-site facility that screens mail addressed to the White House.

The ricin was confirmed in field and laboratory tests.

The suspect allegedly sent other letters to federal prisons that were discovered in different facilities, an official told NBC News Saturday. It wasn’t immediately clear which prisons the letters were sent to or who the recipients were.

The official said only one letter appeared to be addressed to a political figure.

I’m surprised .gov hasn’t made them illegal. It’s an easily made insanely potent poison,
yet marijuana’s illegal.
pot is illegal for political control.
many things are incredibly dangerous in the hands of somebody who wants to do harm. Ask anybody who works in a lab. I remember going across campus to pick up a chemical that was triple sealed, padded, and marked "DO NOT TRANSPORT BY CAR, MUST BE HAND CARRIED". it was a couple bucks and I didn't really need anything special to get it from the supply warehouse. Stuff scared the crap out of me. Lots of the stuff I used was mildly terrifying. And then there were the neurotoxins we had sitting on the shelf...

I mention rhetorical one because I didn’t think to much should be said in an open section of the forum. Two because while there are quite a few who can how many people would? And if they did would they in their say kitchen or basement with its physical risks? My point is that the effort and personal physical risk is not normal ... this person had a definite goal.

Another dumb question ...

With Walter and all the BB following it sucks to think about some would-be leftist wonder just how many of them could be thinking about doing something now or especially later if say Trump wins in November, Amy Barrett is confirmed to take RBG’s seat or one of many other triggers. Some years back there were a couple brief rashes of “special mail” to offices as well as some homes ... both passive that took a few days to “work” and others would do things when opened. Can you just see crackpots in certain groups starting to think about it again? I’d hope Darwin would really pop up before innocent people were affected but past showed collateral stuff was just as hurt.

I'm just shocked that there wasn't a Canadian postal strike sometime between the mailing of the letter and it crossing into the States.

There was a Chapel Hill cop who left the CHPD to go to the USSS; he and I were pretty good friends when I was a medic in OC. I talked with him not long after 9/11 when he was in town, I think it was around Thanksgiving, he said that ALL mail coming into the WH goes through a bunch of sensors and tests to rule-out CBRNE, and everything was beefed up after the whole anthrax mailing that had happened that October.
