Another waste of taxpayer funds that are printed on worthless paper and will have to be borrowed from China and repaid by our unborn generations. What is the love affair with high speed rail?

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina will use a $47.5 million federal grant to purchase a rail line needed to advance planned high-speed passenger train service between Raleigh and Richmond, Virginia.

Not Exact comparison but just a reference point
Los Angeles To San Francisco bullet train was planned at 10 billion, it is forecasted now at 80 billion and probably will be short by another 10 billion

Yeah and this is just to purchase the line. I will take a guess now that it ends up as the worlds longest greenway.:rolleyes:

And it was started in the middle, so a train from nowhere people live to nowhere they want to go.

It's never going to be anything but a money pit for well connected contractors.

And that line is now going from Barstow to Fresno. Yuge traffic relief, that.

Take a large number, triple it, then add 200%, and that'll be the approximate updated budget for the Raleigh ~ Richmond Express once they determine that the actual route will be Germanton ~ Galax.

The Federal Railroad Administration has a long term program that envisions a high speed rail corridor from Maine to Florida, and from Charlotte to New Orleans. North Carolina is participating in the Sealed Corridor development, which will enable trains to know, far in advance, whether a crossing is clear. What you think is a regular freight train line, might be one they hope to use in future for 100+mph trains.

I imagine it is ultimately just a faster leg of the Charlotte to NYC Amtrak? I know big chunks of the Raleigh to DC leg are speed limited to 45 mph because of the track.

Unfortunate that the FRA has no knowledge of airplanes. Given all the video and remote teleconferencing that has been going on since CV-19, high speed rail is obsolete.

Democrats really do want to build a Hunger Games society where high speed rail brings the help into central cities that are populated by the elites. Said elites wilfully bond themselves to the abuse committed by government because they enjoy their luxury too much.

Not that much of a stretch to believe this.
After all, city dwellers already think themselves to be superior to outlanders and they are exceedingly willing to surrender liberty for the promise of security.

The last time we needed to move a lot of people from NC to Richmond we were at war. Can't think of a good reason currently.

Who the eff wants to go to Richmond? I mean, is there a reason that a large volume of people need to go to Richmond?

Your mind reading skills should give you a distinct advantage should this fantasy ever play out.

And the top California Senator pushing to build this railroad is DIANE FEINSTEIN.

Guess who owns the company that's building the railroad...

HER HUSBAND!!!!!
