What are some games y'all play at the range to break the monotony of shooting paper or steel? We've done a couple 60-yard poker matches lately and that's fun, but I'm always looking for new ideas.

I read an article one time on bowling. The pins were seat up on racks . I forget the rules though

Yesterday we shot 8 plates from 6 inches to 12 inches spread out 8 yards from the center to the shooter and across 15 yards wide. We shot from Low Ready [that's when you're not certain of everybody's skill level]. Quickest time was 3.36 seconds.

Big Fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ Leemajors and I would put up so we not steel brass and go out 100 yards and see who could hit the most a row with 22's. We'd have a blast

You can scroll through the rimfire section here and we have “challenges” on a fairly consistent basis. Grand prize each time is you get to pick the target for the next month. We usually use some type of available target, but every once in awhile somebody has a slightly different idea.

I really enjoyed this one: https://www.carolinafirearmsforum.c...ff-june-18-rimfire-benchrest-challenge.27765/

How many holes can you put in a standard playing card @ 50 yards. Holes that break the edge, or overlap another hole, don’t count. So at some point you have to stop, or your next shot wipes out a previous point. I think the winner shot a 29, and I maxed at 22.

Old guy at gunsmith school used to go to handgunners in burlington when the cops would go to practice. He would wait for them to put out a fresh target and then send his own down to the same distance. Every shot they took, he would take one also, then when they brought the target back he would as well and he would walk over to them and ask them to compare. Some liked it and some were not big fans of his. I asked him why he bothered and he said he liked to make a game of it. The competition added the fun factor for him

Not a game exactly, but I do have an exercise I like to do sometimes while waiting for the range to go cold and put up a target. We have permanent stands with wooden backer boards up, and lots of folks staple paper targets to the backer boards. Then, when they leave, they just rip off the paper target and leave the paper corners stapled to the board. Soon, the backers are covered with these little bits of paper stapled to them. While waiting for the range to go cold, I will set up my CZ455 and try to blow off the paper corners and clean my backer board by cutting the staples (or blasting them through the back). At 25 yards, it is not that difficult, provided that you are diligent with maintaining your fundamentals. At 50 yards, it is damn challenging regardless.

When I'm shooting the 300 win mag I like to play, "Is this first shot going to take down the steal target and stand I just walked 100 yards to set up two minutes ago?" game.

I first played battleship about a year ago and love it. It’s a great way to change things up and have a lot of fun while adding a competitive aspect that anyone can enjoy.
I like doing pistol, one shot at a time, so every shot is like your first shot on target.

That’s what we use exactly! So much fun. We were using 22 rifles doing that one shot at a time. I bet the pistol was a lot harder.
Also one of my friends drilled a bunch of holes in a 2 x 4 put golf tees in it and would shoot paintballs and grapes off of them.
And one time at band camp LOL they put peanut butter on the target and shot the flies as they came to it. Loads of fun!
