I realized I don't have a 22LR carbine/rifle. I don't think i "need" one, but it would just be for general plinking and killing zombies in an apocylpse. Looking to spend less than $400 and won't have hurt feelings if it is less then $200

My thoughts:

  1. 22LR kit for my aero survival rifle. Seems to have a cool factor, but might actually be a bigger PITA because I will have to switch out everything to go from 9mm or 10mm to 22LR. Can also shoot 22mag. https://www.tnwfirearms.com/product-p/asrx-conv-22lr-bkxx-xxxx.htm
  2. Ruger 10/22. just a basic model
  3. Henry or Rossi 22 lever action
other ideas or choices?

Just buy a basic 10/22 that’s close to the configuration you like, shoot it, and then start upgrading or changing parts as you go.
It might not be as easy now but you could keep a check on local pawn shops an look for one in good condition at a good price (pre-panic you could do sub $200 pretty regularly) and build what you want ... Boyd’s stock, aftermarket trigger, etc ... it’s as much fun and as easy as building an AR.

Tough to go wrong with a basic 10/22. If you ever decide you don’t like it, there is a nearly-endless aftermarket so you can make it whatever you want.

Buy a basic Charger model with synthetic stock. Copper Custom or Farrowtech brace adapter (45-55 bucks), buffer tube and brace of your choosing and optic. If you don't like the factory trigger swap out parts down the road.

10/22 and ruger charger. I have to say I have caught to bug & IM HAVING A BALL

LOL. I'm not sure whether you should blame me or Big Waylon for sending you to me LOL.
Both of you at this point! Im already ordering more stuff as we speak.

10/22 ruger
or, well, I do like the @BigWaylon idea of a 15-22 too
Have both (two 10/22, one takedown model and another early 80s with wood furniture, and then a black sw15-22) and love both

If I didn’t have a 15/22, I’m strongly consider this...

If that’s the Walther/Umarex clone like I believe it is, you’d have to be a fool to choose it when you have an option of a 15-22. I had the Colt M4 version and while it worked, it was of reallllly poor build quality. I’m not even factoring in the fact that the 15-22 is cheaper.
I have heard good things about the GSG clones but still not the greatest build quality.

Or you could consider a gun already perfect with no need to change or spend money on. Buy a CZ 455 or 457 used or new.

What fun is that?

I mean yeah it saves you money but its boring!

@vp9c I take back everything I said. I am about a week into this and I am about 1k lighter than when I started...

And where to find one!

I can’t find the takedown lite anywhere.

You can't go wrong with a basic 10/22. I have the longer barreled stainless sporter model and it is fantastic. And if you want to accessorize a Ruger 10/22 is great for that. But if you don't intend to spruce up your rifle then consider a a Marlin 795. It is a light, nice feeling plinker with a composite stock. Years ago I got a new one for $75 after a store discount and mail in rebate. But you should still be able to find one of these for under $200.
