Where does CFF get quality ones for less than the high priced manufacturer websites?

Our refrigerator uses the GE MSWF and the last time I ordered them off amazon some sketchy fake/refurb filter showed up. I wasn't confident using it for the family.

I get ours "Subscribe & Save" on Amazon. So far, they've always been the real deal afaik. (Note: I have no dog in that fight. I don't drink fridge water; I'm straight off the well.)

I mean, it's activated charcoal and plastic. I don't think the OEM ripoffs are any safer/nicer than the third party. Hard to do badly, long as they are certified and meet standards.

I buy the cheap third party ones on Amazon that have good reviews. They're fine.

Do NOT buy a water filter on eBay and be VERY skeptical buying one on Amazon unless it’s sold by Amazon or the manufacturer. Counterfeit filters are the vast majority of filters on eBay and from 3rd party sellers on amazon. The counterfeits are nearly-impossible for a consumer to differentiate, it’s crazy how much effort they put into copying them.

If you see a multi-pack of OEM filters for a great price, I can almost guarantee they’re Chinese counterfeits.

I spent a couple years learning this stuff inside and out as the market was developing, and am the counterfeit & non-gen expert for one of the major manufacturers. Yes, OEM water filters are extremely overpriced for what they are, but at least you can trust what’s inside them.

If you refuse to pay OEM prices but still want to replace your filter, I’d recommend buying a knock off from a reputable company like Discount Filters or better yet a local NC owned company who probably does filter sales better than anyone else...

They all say they’re NSF and/or WQA certified but both organizations are too small to fight the illegal use of their marks by counterfeiters. Unless it’s a US based company, the mark doesn’t mean anything.

I'm in industry, let me ask my parts department guy. No promise it's cheaper, but maybe...
My parts guy said to get a generic from filtersfast... the place @Jerzsubbie recommended already... so that's the inside line from 2 in industry guys

I'd agree that one doesn't look like it meets my standard.
For what it's worth the generic filters they sell for Whirlpool and Frigidaire product are equivalent to manufacturer filters. I wonder why the GE filter is not?

GE sell a three pack at a slight discount https://www.geapplianceparts.com/store/parts/spec/MSWF3PK

Don’t buy “Ice Pure”. I’m surprised FF is even selling those. It’s only NFS 42 which is the most basic type of filter, otherwise known as CTO (chlorine, taste, odor). You want something that is NSF 53 at a minimum. Get the FF house brand.

I pay the money at Lowes for a name brand filter. i had bad luck with Amazon ripoffs. I don't go to amazon for filters, batteries or bulbs.

I’ve ordered aftermarket that wouldn’t perk. Meaning no water would flow through.

Go brand name, not cheap. They last longer for the gallons.

Been resetting that purple switch on my samsung fridge for years w/out changing the filter. Good water in Lee County. No issues ...no cost.
You’re not alone. Roughly 30% of people do the same.

You would be better served with a “bypass filter”. It’s an empty shell of a filter. Currently, your X year old filter is clogged up with whatever it could filter out and is no longer filtering anything. Your flow rate is also going to be noticeably lower; you likely don’t think so because it gradually decreased over time, but if your replace the filter you’ll be surprised.

I just use what’s cheapest on ebay
Amazon, but yeah.

I mean if I’m willing to drink it from the tap, is a filter gonna make it worse? :D
