I had a 2009 TRD Sport 4x4. Mainly highway miles Graham to Durham. Had a couple of issues with xmission shifting hard, found a TSB for it, asked dealer to take care of. They argued a bit but eventually reflashed the computer. Fixed the hard shift. While searching for the TSB for the transmission, found another TSB. Some Tacos came with 3 leaf springs and body would hit frame. Checked, yep, 3 instead of 4. It all depended where truck was manufactured, Mexico and Canada. One had 3 the other 4. Cant remember which was which. Asked dealer to put 4 under truck as I had no load in bed, crossed RR crossing and bottom out. Dealer argued again, we cant replicate your problem. You want me to go to Lowes and get some mulch and show you????, no, your springs are on order. Thanks.
Bigger issue was when Toyota was having the acceleration issues. Was going to work in Durham, got off Hwy 55. No problem, went 2 stoplights, turned right and crossed the RR and was heading to a T intersection. Let off gas, applied brake, truck never let up. The more I braked, higher RPMs went, Oh shit, there is a Cadillac in front of me. Ass off the seat, both feet on the brake, no joy. Finally knocked truck into neutral, and stomped the hell out of the gas pedal. RPMs finally went from 7000 to normal. You couldn't have driven a pin up my a$$ it was so puckered.
Called dealer, explained what took place, they wanted data, speed, location, weather, etc. They kept the truck for a week saying they were gathering information and sending to Toyota. When I got it back, they say they could not replicate my issue, but replaced the gas pedal assembly unit just to make sure. Ok. Few more months, transmission had another issue, bad solenoid and they say the battery needs replacing as it was bad. All of this within 2 years of ownership, less than 40K on the clock.
Didn't trust that one anymore and traded for a Silverado.
I did like the truck when it acted right.
