Well, I took the plunge and went against my wife and picked up a Tacoma last night. Her family is diehard Chevy and my family is diehard Ford. I went against them all and got a 2020 TRD Pro Tacoma in Army Green. So far I absolutely love it! I’m sure there’s some Tacoma guys in here. Show me yours!

PS: I think she secretly likes it but won’t admit it yet.

I am envious right now. I want a new Green PRO! I love Toyota’s. I have an ‘06 Tacoma TRD Off Road, my wife had a new ‘18 Camry and we just traded it and my Jeep for a Highlander. Toyota’s are good vehicles! This is my ‘06 Taco with 98k on the clock.

How's it run? Every single Taco or 4 Runner I've driven felt weak AF, straight drive or slush box & I'm spoiled with my Frontier's healthy 4.0 v6.

My buddy's 4.0 '18 4 Runner runs great & I was <this> to buying a TRD Offroad till I saw they only get a 3.5.

Love that Army Green color.

I’m coming from a Silverado with a 5.3. For what it is it seems fine to me.

I don't think that's what was intended when it's said that it's Taco Tuesday.

If you're going to be wrong, that's a pretty good consolation prize. Me likey.

Nice buy!

I had a 2017 TRD Pro in Cement that I traded in last month for a 2020 Tundra TRD Pro (wanted something bigger and more power).

Tacomas are nice. The traction control stuff is neat..youll dig the rear diff locker. They skipped some of that stuff on the Tundra sadly.

Wife has a 2019 4 Runner TRD Offroad XP.

We are definitely fans of Toyotas.

I leased one for a bit over 2 years. For a commute vehicle that seats 4 it is good. Can't say the best as I've not sampled all, but very capable.

Use it as a "truck" more than 15% of the time and it falls short. I darn near killed mine, often. My wife even said it will die while working.

Just don’t work it too much and you'll be happy.

Nice Taco.

I had a 2009 TRD Sport 4x4. Mainly highway miles Graham to Durham. Had a couple of issues with xmission shifting hard, found a TSB for it, asked dealer to take care of. They argued a bit but eventually reflashed the computer. Fixed the hard shift. While searching for the TSB for the transmission, found another TSB. Some Tacos came with 3 leaf springs and body would hit frame. Checked, yep, 3 instead of 4. It all depended where truck was manufactured, Mexico and Canada. One had 3 the other 4. Cant remember which was which. Asked dealer to put 4 under truck as I had no load in bed, crossed RR crossing and bottom out. Dealer argued again, we cant replicate your problem. You want me to go to Lowes and get some mulch and show you????, no, your springs are on order. Thanks.

Bigger issue was when Toyota was having the acceleration issues. Was going to work in Durham, got off Hwy 55. No problem, went 2 stoplights, turned right and crossed the RR and was heading to a T intersection. Let off gas, applied brake, truck never let up. The more I braked, higher RPMs went, Oh shit, there is a Cadillac in front of me. Ass off the seat, both feet on the brake, no joy. Finally knocked truck into neutral, and stomped the hell out of the gas pedal. RPMs finally went from 7000 to normal. You couldn't have driven a pin up my a$$ it was so puckered.

Called dealer, explained what took place, they wanted data, speed, location, weather, etc. They kept the truck for a week saying they were gathering information and sending to Toyota. When I got it back, they say they could not replicate my issue, but replaced the gas pedal assembly unit just to make sure. Ok. Few more months, transmission had another issue, bad solenoid and they say the battery needs replacing as it was bad. All of this within 2 years of ownership, less than 40K on the clock.

Didn't trust that one anymore and traded for a Silverado.

I did like the truck when it acted right.

Thanks for the insight. I’ll check and keep that in mind as I get some miles on it.

You shouldn’t have to worry about that stuff. The 09 was a 2nd gen, totally different drivetrain (4.0L, 5sp auto; still used in 4Runner) compared to the 3rd gen’s 3.5L w 6sp auto. The 6sp does shift unpredictably and the 3.5L lacks power down low, main reasons I sold my truck, but if you don’t have a heavy foot it probably won’t bother you too much.

The 6sp auto in the 16+ Tacoma’s has a “learning feature” that tries to maximize mpg based on how you drive. This takes a few thousand miles to take effect, but the mpg gain is minimal. If you put on bigger tires the transmission’s shortcomings and truck’s tall gearing are magnified. People who regear shout from the mountains how much better the truck drives, I never took that jump.

Yes it’s not cheap but my truck was pays off and had some cash. It helped A LOT!

My 2010 Nissan Frontier was really cheap. A gift from my brother. [emoji16][emoji38][emoji28][emoji1787]

Lots of after market off road parts for the TACO.

Man, that's a great color!

And, it's gonna last longer than a Chevy or a Ford.

My last truck was a 2007 Silverado 3500 diesel dually. It was great until 120,000 miles when it started falling apart. The exhaust literally rusted apart and fell off. I had exhaust blowing directly into the cab...

Now I've got a 2018 Nissan Titan. Love it. I might try a Tundra next, if they still make them in 15 or 20 years.

Enjoy!

I bought a brand new tacoma as a company truck in 2011. I loved that thing. It was truly a goat and would go anywhere.

I have heard from a few reliable sources that the new ones have had a lot of issues over the last 5 years or so. Frames failing, electrical problems etc. I hope they have it corrected in this model.

Good looking truck.

Tundra guy myself but respect the tacoma's. 2003 tundra 197k miles. Drives like the day I bought it.

I'm considering a new Tundra but I just can't justify it yet. Mine still runs like a scalded dawg.

The dealer had a tundra pro there. Same color. I was tempted.

They’re good trucks. I successfully broke one some years ago, but I used to tow a 24’ trailer behind it with round bales on it

Wait for 2022, the new generation is reportedly going to be released. That is, unless you want a V8 over a V6 TT, then 2021 will likely be your last chance.
