Came onto the front porch around 0500. Looked like a large (2 feet long ish?) weasel, with a flat, bushy tail.
What the hell is it?

First guess would be a Mink with the flatish tail description. Other guesses include ground hog or fox squirrel

check the size of your picture to make sure it isn't too large storage size wise.

I’m guessing groundhog. They’re rampant

How sure are you?
I didn't smell anything...
Should I leave it alone, or kill it?
Leave it alone until it causes problems. Or you can trap it and then see how it likes the trap. If you have let food outside bring it in at night. It was there for a reason

This ^^^
Your best option is to get him to go elsewhere for easy chow. They will fire if trapped, so if you set a DP or live trap, don't do it near the house.

I am pretty sure your definition of "DP" and my definition are very different
@Chdamn knows what I mean

LOL !!! Sorry about that, Dog Proof trap. It's a cylinder shaped trap so a dog can't reach down into the trap for the bait and get snagged.
If you're into the other, you have to move this to the Basement.

The smell of a skunk "just passing by" will only hang in the air for a few minutes. Skunk stripe configuration also can vary a lot. I saw an albino skunk passing by the porch this year, probably 30 feet from where I was sitting. I thought it was a cat until I smelled it.

Skunks are pretty harmless unless they are threatened. They can even be tamed. But at the first hint of being threatened, they un-ass that spray. Like racoons they will eat everything, so remove food sources, leave it alone, and it'll be on its' merry way.

The striping on a skunk is quite variable. And it looks like it has a stripe on it's head. I'd go with skunk as well.

Skunks eat a lot of things most people don't like. Yellow jacket nests for instance. I say leave him alone.

Had one crawl into a foxhole with me at Ft. Leonard Wood. The little feller was tame, thank God. He shared a meal with me and went his merry way. My funk was worse than his. I think he felt sorry for me...

I need to put my cameras back out. We have a huge white skunk with just a small black stripe that’s been coming around for the last couple of years.

It’s bigger than any of our coons. If I can get a pic, I’ll post it here or start another thread.
