I am seeing more and more of those blue Amazon vans.

This morning I ordered a motorcycle seat that is very specific to this bike, made by a manufacturer that is backordered on this style 6-8 weeks.

Amazon says it shipped, by Amazon, just now and that it will be delivered tomorrow. It must have been warehoused locally, but I can’t imagine they would keep this product stocked just anywhere but one location. Too expensive, and too one-off peculiar.

They have been massively expanding their supply/shipping chain.
Mega regional warehouse to support local warehouses and it’s easy to get material back-and-forth to both.
I’ve even started getting a few same day deliveries from the Greensboro hub.

it could have just been a lucky order. :) You got any lotto numbers to share?:D

It’s the third time I’ve ordered the same seat. The manufacturer said they had it in stock, so I ordered, then canceled my order due to 6-8 week backorder. Then I found it at a dealer and ordered, and they didn’t have it either, and issued a paypal refund I’m waiting on to clear, then I found it on Amazon and they say they’ve shipped it.

Say what we will about Bezos, but they have a return desk in Kohls just up the street from me. It is the bomb.

I haven’t tried one of those return desks before. I’ve been pretty lucky with Amazon orders. I’ve only had damaged shipments this year actually.

No muss, no fuss. I just start the return process on Amazon, package it up like it was shipped to me, then take it in with the QR code sent to me on my phone then done. Refunded same day.

It is shocking to me the condition of returns they will accept. I package my stuff up like it came from factory, but everyone else wheels it in a like a homeless person, and they take it at the Amazon desk.

And they are all Mercedes vans too.

Amazon was (is?) actively encouraging small business folks to buy the vans and essentially 'franchise' (not really, but kinda) a 'last mile' delivery service. Meaning Amazon wants to own the distribution up to the growing number of regional/local distribution centers, then have independents make the local deliveries. It's really pretty darn brilliant.

They are the short bus company of delivery. There is a warehouse 17 1/2 miles from my house, on the same damned road. 1 town to go through, and they send my shipments from there to a warehouse 40 miles from my house to be out for delivery.

I did find out I can drive to close warehouse and pick up my shipment 2 hours after ordering lf I have prime, or wait for 2 day delivery.

I never expected to see them in my neighborhood because I'm kind of in the sticks, but my last few deliveries have been the blue van. They just showed up here a couple of weeks ago.

Oh, and they email me as soon as it’s delivered, WITH a pic of the package sitting on my front porch.

I like that. Gives me peace of mind when I’m not at the house. I set up my delivery preferences and instructions for them to put it in a very specific spot, and they do it every single time. I actually prefer the Amazon drivers over the US Postal Service and DHL. Our UPS drivers are pretty good

Bezos says the company will be gone soon, why spend all that money on windmills, solar, EV trucks, etc etc.

I notice their tracking number is not applicable to track anything. It was “shipped today” and I don’t know from where, or when, other than “today”.

I also ordered an article of leather apparel for winter riding that is an odd size (because I am odd) and was half price. I thought how lucky am I??
Then I get an email saying it won’t be delivered till the middle of next month, or the middle of the month after that.

Although that wasn’t an Amazon delivery issue.

One of my last Amazon orders ended up dumped on the street under my mail box and the dumbass driver took pictures. Some deliveries they take pictures, some they dont. As to they packaging for return, some items they tell you to just take it to the UPS store with a return code and they do the return packing. I would imagine they just dump it all in a big bin and it goes to one of Amazon's return merch warehouse where people bid on the bins.

Sounds crazy but don’t rule out their algorithms for the supply chain. Maybe they saw you order some other stuff and their SkyNet thought a seat would be next, so they made sure the warehouse near you had one in it.

Just saying...

You haven't ordered heated gear yet? This undershirt is the bomb. You will need to get a Heat Troller too. Get the dual one for the gloves you will add later.

Is that the one on Hwy 73 in Concord? Can you go there and pick up stuff?

Didn't know that. It's less than a mile from the house. The other one near the Concord airport is about 3 miles away.
I called to see what warehouse a particular item was in. They told me, and said I could do pickup.

But......on another thread you said "I put on a Mustang solo seat for my big caboose". Of course that was two weeks ago.

Instead of investing in seats, have you ever tried a back rest?

.

I sent that seat back, and have ordered the same seat with a backrest three times. The first two vendors discovered they are out of stock and Mustang is backordered 6-8 weeks, then I found it “in stock" on Amazon.

Hopefully. We’ll see if it shows up.

i hope you are out enjoying the new seat... I will be sending mine out to russell day-long soon enough,...
It showed up today from an Amazon warehouse in Durham! Go figure.

Four of us are headed to Carolina Brewery for lunch about 11:30, then for a ride down 902 through Bear Creek and Bennet, then taking 22 up towards Ramseur, then east on 64 back to our neck of the woods.

Amazon just opened 2 new distribution centers for the grey vans in Durham, the locations are marked on the shipping label, DRT8, DRT9, and the older facility is RDU5.
I did safety training for the DRT facilities and asked them if the Dead Right There acronym was a good name for their new locations.
The first delivery here (not quite) was left on the side of the road a 1/4 mile from the house. They appear to not be any better than FidEx.

Nice choice of roads there. Beautiful scenery down that way.

Amazon rules
Bought two things yesterday morning, one already delivered about 30 hours later

everybody keeps backing up over my grass. they usually try to back up between the bushes - but i've lost a bush. and they put tire marks in the sandy dirt - which is annoying because the grass is already pretty precarious about growing in that area.
I've been thinking of putting some low lattice or something between the bushes and letting some morning glory or other flowery vines grow. That oughtta teach 'em.
Also, if they knock it over, I'll have it on security camera... and that just seems like a moneymaker for the price of some cheap wood stuffs. What do you figure I'd get from amazon in gift card money for them knocking over a $15 section of landscaping?

Nothing. They will pay nothing. Ask how I know

I'm going off of old MI laws... but if they do business in your county, you can do small claims court. They won't likely bother to show up, and you'll get a default judgement. They'll wait until the last possible day to send the check, but if you keep the listing of damages to "reasonable" and realistic, you should be fine.
I mean, what would it cost to hire somebody to do landscaping work? $100 just to show up, 100% markup on supplies, $50/hr labor rounded up? I think cumberland puts a 10k cap on small claims...

Well they didn't pay a dime for the landscaping they drove over here. Nor did they send anyone to fill in the ruts that were so deep they needed a winch out.

This isn't MI. Alot different down here.

The pic will be used when drones make deliveries. They will match the picture to your location, like facial recognition, and leave a package.
