Favorite Scotch or other brown whiskey

I've just started to develop a taste for scotch, so I got a lot of "research" to do. I know it's a blend, but I just finished off a bottle of Monkey Shoulder. It's not a bad daily and not too pricey. My standby so far have been Glenlivet and Glenfiddich 12 year. Haven't quite developed my palate for the Islay's yet. I like the peaty, but they seem kinda oily to me. I'm always open for suggestions.

On bourbons it's either Bulliet, Jefferson or Woodford. I'm really digging rye's as of late.

Tullamore Dew is my go to whiskey. If I'm going for good Scotch it's The Balvenie Caribbean Cast.
Im gonna back you up on the tullamore dew. Tully is certainly not top shelf, but it doesnt deserve the shelf youll find it on. Delicious!

For Irish I go with a Bushmills white label. For Bourbon its Woodford Reserve. I am quite partial to Tequilla tho and have several favorites in that category.

I'm a Jameson Original fan but the caskmates sounds intriging. Any other good Irish whiskeys worth trying?
Yes! Teeling. - its phenomenal. Same price as Jameson Black Barrel and far more worth the extra $10 over Jameson Original, unlike the Blk barrel.

Grabbed a wild turkey 101 today. On sale this month, $22/750ml.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I have really been enjoying just seeing what is all out there. Trying to experiment with more American whiskey/bourbon these days. It has been fun trying new stuff.

I have pretty much swore off beer lately. In the past I would always opt for beer and pickup whiskey maybe omce every couple months, and almost always Jameson. Now it is the other way around.

Lately - Bulleit Rye with a splash of ginger ale and a squeeze of lime and toss it in with a few cubes of ice.

Otherwise - Jameson Cask Mates with one cube of ice.

Try something more balanced like Highland Park. Some smoke, but dialed down. Also try Johnny Walker Black.
Don't hate,it's not bad stuff and will be a stepping stone. My $.02
Had a thought last night. You may want to try Talisker. Good smoke but blended with
wood so as not to be too overpowering. Enjoy!

I don't know that I have a favorite, but any of the Islays suit me just fine... Laphroaig, Lavagulin, Ardbeg.

Bulleit Rye is great, just got a bottle of Coopers Reserve but have not tried it yet. Sazerac is really good if you can find it and not that expensive. Now the really good stuff if you can get it is the 15 or 20 year Pappy(good luck with this one :))

Bulleit Rye and Wild Turkey Rye are the only two rye whiskeys I have tried. Crazy how much better Bulleit was for only like $7 more, but still, $32 is a little pricier than I like to spend since I go thru them so fast. - any in the 24-28 range worth trying or am I stuck?

I like the Glenlivet 18 year old stuff. BUT- its a bit pricy and I save it for an occasional treat. The 12 years old stuff id VERY good with a bit of branch water and cost a lot less,
I also like glenlivet but ill take dewars or chavis regal. I also like Jameson but normally my go to is evan willaims or wild turkey.

I like the George Dickel Rye with a couple rocks. I can't remember what I paid for it, but I'm drinking on Redemption Rye right now. I like it a lot, and I don't think it was that pricey.

Redemption Rye will be my next to try. I bought some Larceny straight bourbon yesterday. It is good but I am definitely liking the rye whiskeys better.

Good. I like mine with a little ginger ale. Im thinking of makeing them like burbon Presbyterians next time. Wiskey tonic and a splash of ginger.
I do that on occasion with cheaper irish whiskey. My wife likes 2Gingers with a splash of Zevia ginger ale. It's pretty good. Probably what I opt for if I'm outside and it's wicked hot.

Never acquired a taste for Scotch. My choice for whiskey is Crown Royal (original). None of that flavored crap!

I enjoy a good single malt Scotch like The Balvenie and I do enjoy Glenmorangie. I am more of a Bourbon guy and Woodford Reserve Double Oaked tops the list right now. I recently took a trip to KY and toured the distillery at Woodford Reserve, what an amazing place I highly recommend you take the tour if you are in the area. Woodford has a Double Double Oaked available only at the distillery talk about smooth it is some amazing stuff.

The Balvenie DoubleWood is a nice smooth single malt. (My wife doesn't care for the peaty choices but I like Laphroaig.) Macallan 12 is also one she likes for the smoother less fiery taste.

I like many of the better bourbons but we usually keep Elijah Craig in the house as its a good value for a 12 year old straight Kentucky bourbon.
