Family Camping

Just waiting for August to get here. We are Cataloochee bound for a week. And we are landing in there for the Sunday Reunion this year. I plan on attending even if I smell like I've been there for a week. Hopefully I can figure out how we are related into the valley.

Kids almost 6 and 3 1/2 yrs old had a blast. Riding bikes and playing with friends kid who is almost 2. This was at a friend's place so I got to ride dirtbikes and do a little shooting.

Headed to Edisto State Park in a couple weeks.

We used to have a group trip through a fly fishing sight, Kids and Dads. No mom's allowed. Wow that was a good weekend. lol. Survived what was almost a tornado in West Jefferson one year. Probably 40 people most years. Kids running wild in the creek everywhere, fish and crawdads harassed, bonfires and stories. Been taking my kids camping since they were old enough to deal with it. We go once or twice a year for about a week. Gotta get a new tent this year.

I wish I could get my wife more into the idea of camping because my kids have a blast anytime I take them outdoors. Looks like a fun time!

Wife wanted to join us but didn't want to just be crammed in a tent. Ended up buying a REI Kingdom 6. That thing is Huge!

I wish I could get her to do that but she won't. If there's no A/C she's not interested. I even offered to get a camper with A/C and she wasn't really interested. I need to take my 5 and 3 year old daughters, they're still up for it.

Get them used to it early and have camping buddies that want to go. She'll eventually get jealous and think she's missing out and rethink the idea.

At Hagan Stone Park for a couple of days, taking the older 2 grandkids camping. They are in the bed now. Daughter and youngest granddaughter on the left, wife in the middle, and DIL on the right.IMG_20170822_221324.jpg

A really nasty one about 0100 this morning. By the time the wife woke me it was too late. I was talking to a friend and he mentioned something I hadn't thought about. The insurance company may total loss it with it needing a new roof. Country Roads RV said it would be around $5,000 or so for a new one.

That's nasty. So it wasn't just the canvas, but the actual roof of the thing? Wife and I have been entertaining the idea of getting one. I'm trying to figure out if its more fun than a boat, which is of course a hole in the water you throw money in.
We loved it, but now our kids are grown. However we now have grandkids but my wife is disabled though. I'm not sure what we are going to do.

If we keep it and the insurance doesn't pay for the roof the wife said my new motorcycle I want may be the new roof.

We made the leap from tent to travel trailer two years ago...this is on the Raven Fork outside of Cherokee, at Jellystone...grandkids loved it there, played in the river tubing from one end of the campground and back again, over and over...granddaughter and wife in photo. I thought when we transitioned from a tent to the camper, I would not be hauling as much...but we haul even more stuff...note the flamingo lights on the awning, are they just not awesome (heavy sarcasm), the fencing for the dogs, but the wife and GKs love it, so its worth it.

Just heard from the insurance company yesterday and all they will pay for is the awning. This morning I heard from the RV place and the new roof is going to be $8K and the back wall has to be replaced also(more water damage) at a cost of $3-$4K. This really sucks because I just paid the dang thing off in June!!!!!

I told the wife we should just replace the awning and donate it to Goodwill or something and get a tax write-off. She was like you'd be mad as heck if you bought it from somewhere like that and had to sink a bunch of money in it. So, I guess I'm getting a loan to fix it then put it on the market.
