There seems to be a lot of elk around here

I agree, saw some elk hamburger at my local Harris Teeter here in Salisbury NC just last weekend. Was wondering what it tastes like, but at $9.90 a lb and being short of funds this decade, declined to take the chance.

Just know that any elk (or other game meat) you see in a grocery store is farm raised and will taste pretty much like beef.

My son lives in Colorado and usually gets an elk each year. He hasn't got one yet this year but he saw a couple that were out of archery range. Hopefully he gets one in rifle season before we go visit again. I don't care much for venison but elk is really good.

The powers that be keep saying we will eventually have a lottery in NC for elk tags. Sign me up.

Interesting, I would have thought that Elk would pretty much taste like venison and I dont care for deer either. The coloration of the elk burger that I saw was was a dark purple with very little fat, a lot like venison, thus me shying away from it.. They also had ground bison and that did look like cow burger meat..
Upon your recommendation, Might try the Elk just to say I did..
