Ok, this one is family car camping. Weight is not an issue but space is depending on if we take both vehicles. Not everything on the list goes every time and sometime other things go. This trip will include 3 Mtn bikes. But since I'm gathering it all up I thought I would post pics. I mentioned it in another thread but didn't want it lost in there. If I remember I'll post pics of my Jenga-ninja packing skill of the van.

I updated this last year but had to pencil in a few things this year.

Very organized. What fun is a camping trip without at least one emrgency stop to the sporting goods stop on the way there and one half way through the week? You're going to have to go on a beer run anyway. :D

Now this is a story all about how
Our trip got flipped, turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute
Just sit right there
I'll tell you about how I became the prince of a thing call check lists.

We camp in Cataloochee valley almost yearly, or at least every other year. We drove all the way up. Stopped to top off for ice and get fire wood. And into camp we rolled. Set up the tent, the pop up cook tent, and started emptying camp stuff. My wife got hungry and went to pull out our lunch meat. "Where's the lunch meat?" she asked. "I don't know, you pack the food." "It's at home in the fridge then."

Do you know where the closest grocery store to Cataloochee is? Ingles in Waynesville. Now I love Waynseville, and that Ingle's is awesome. But not a nearly 4 hour trip on top of a 2.5 hour drive awesome. Heck, the trip out to the store for ice and wood half way through the week is 1.5 to 2 hours total.

enlighten me sir, what are pee bags and buckets?

Wife and 2 girls, I think you can take it from there. They don't like night trips. And we camp as far away as possible anyway.

My last camping trip was out first year living in NC. Had all the gear, trailered up the boat, and headed to the campgrounds on Badin Lake. As we started to set up the tent a huge t-storm hit. Waited in the truck for an hour. Got everything set up. Wet as could be. Hot, humid. Camped for 2 nights. It was miserably hot and humid. NC rookie here camping in August at lower levels. Lake was nice. Campgrounds pool and bathrooms were full of feces and virtually unusable. That was my wife's last camping trip.

I have romantic notions of a hiking and camping trip or kayaking and camping trip with some friends. Then I drive up to the cabin and sit on the deck. I walk in the house and open the fridge. I flush the toilet and head back out to the deck. Sometimes I walk the 100 feet or so down the hill and make a huge fire. It's not as remote as I'd really like it to be, but it is wooded and quiet. And I realize how truly fortunate I am. But everytime you guys post camping trip pics I do get a little jealous. Grass is always greener huh?

You want to camp when the temps are cool. Like 5 above zero when you wake up. Did that one night at Curtis Creek in Pisgha National Forest.

Did that a couple of times with my brother. First time was miserable. Live and learn.

At the time I'd lived in Northern Cal for 10 years so even camping in the summer nigths were nice and comfortable. Just a brain fart on my part. Was just excited to go again, and didn't think of the climate.

I've camped at CMS for the race when it was so hot you couldn't sleep. And I've camped with my wife where I woke up to frozen water bottles, frozen water filter, and had to thaw out her feet on my stomach so she could walk out. Closest to being branded I'll ever get. And about everything in the middle. Even spent 6 years working in a wilderness program in SC where we slept in open shelters, roof and floor but no windows.
