A 1-day trauma class that will cover the essentials of trauma recognition, assessment, treatment, and response. This class will present the tenets of Tactical Combat Casualty Course, incorporating the the mindset of the civilian responder when facing dynamic conditions. While this information is applicable to any trauma under any conditions, it focuses on the role of the responder to penetrating trauma. This course will cover the information in the American College of Surgeons' Basics of Bleeding Control Course.

The class will include:

Physiological/psychological reactions to stress
The importance of having the proper mindset
Basic anatomy and physiology of life-sustaining systems
H, A, B, C’s—Hemorrhage, Airway, Breathing and Circulation
Breakdown and usage of Individual Med Kit components
Basic and advanced airway management -treating and monitoring tension pneumothorax, sucking chest wound and flail chest
Airway adjunct device placement-nasopharyngeal Airway
Basic first aid
Application of bandages, hemostatics, and tourniquets
Recognition of various injuries/shock
Response to active shooter
Proper use of cover and cover vs. concealment

Date: Saturday, April 28, 8 am-5 pm

Location: TBD (in/around Durham)
