Comedian Robbed at Gunpoint Shifts Views on Firearms, Wants Concealed Carry Permit

hmm.
So he's seen the light and now recognizes the holiness of truth and the error of his ways.
Or does he now want special recognition, as well as a permit in a city that only gives them to the privileged and worthy class? I guess before this incident it was ok for non-worthy folks to just suck it up and quit being so paranoid..even after the same, or worse, happened to them. He freely admits to being in 'dangerous' places before this and nothing ever happened, so all the stories from the little people were just hyperbole?
Now that he's a victim...well hell..somethings gotta be done!
Does he now advocate for the human right of self defense for all, or just for himself?
My spider sense is on high with his, and others like him, new-found sense of outrage. Until he recognizes the right of personal protection rights for all, my stance is no. No gun for you. Suck it up.

We are all special, I’m just extra special

He m’est be low on the pecking scale. All other performers have their aremed bogey guard and will advocate that peasants will be protected by the police.

This soy boy's shriveled stones got the scare of their lives, maybe he will get off the lady plant juice and grow a real pair.

Yes, come to the dark side. We have cookies!

He better also change his performance venues, as well.

No sense in performing in California, for example, where he won't be allowed to carry to protect himself.

Or D.C. Or Baltimore. Or New York City.

As for people who continue to oppose concealed carry, Young said, “I think a lot of those people who are opposed to having a conceal carry permit and being able to own a weapon have never had one pointed directly at them when they have nothing on them.”

It doesn’t sound like he wants special privileges, sounds like he’s seen the light. Guy had a dramatic experience and has changed his thinking, why bash him?

While at least Washington DC is now a shall issue. Just read a report were over half of the applications are from non residents in DC. Just people who commutes there from the surrounding states.

Thanks for the reminder. I haven't looked at D.C.'s laws on this for a while...and, according to handgunlaw.us, it's even more difficult now because they've moved their statutes to LexisNexis, a database of legal and public information stuff. Which, of course, requires a paying to get any information.

It's possible to get a non-resident license in D.C. now, and doesn't seem to be THAT difficult, if one actually pursues it seriously. The fee is $75, but I'm betting there are other costs...like a firearms training course, approved by the D.C. Metro Police Chief. And whatever it costs to register your carry weapon.

Yep...you must register your carry weapon. From handgunlaw.us:

Firearms in DC must be registered. Residents of DC would already have their firearm registered. Non-Residents who wish to obtain a DC License to Carry have to register any firearms they plan on carrying in DC.

Here are some restrictions:

A person issued a concealed carry license by the Chief, while carrying the pistol, shall not carry more ammunition than is required to fully load the pistol twice, and in no event shall that amount be greater than twenty (20) rounds of ammunition.

A person issued a concealed carry license by the Chief may not carry any restricted pistol bullet as that term is defined in the Act.

So...if you carry a 1911, you can only have 14 rounds of ammunition on you (15 if you count one in the chamber).

A 6 shot revolver? 12 rounds.

In any case, no more than 20 rounds total.

Oh, and don't even think about carrying on public transportation.

Or anyplace in D.C. which is on their prohibited list, which is pretty much anywhere in D.C.

Their "No Guns" signs are simply "conspicuous signage prohibiting the carrying of a concealed pistol".

Here are some restrictions:

Did they do a CA-like thing and exempt themselves from all the restrictions? All the 'handgun safety' crap that prevents most guns from being available in CA is exempted for anyone drawing a .gov paycheck. I assume DC and every other state that doesn't want CCW but is 'forced' to will do the same, .gov has one set of rules and another for the subjects.

I always get the sense that in D.C. their attitude is that anyone in this town worth being protected is already protected. That, of course means our elected officials, their "made members" of staff and visiting dignitaries. And since there's a pecking order when it comes to Importance, I wonder how many private security guards work in that town- we always talk about the Secret Service and other obvious US Govt Entities, but I imagine there's armed independent contractors out there too.

Why so much dislike for a new guy getting into guns?
Im surprised that people arent more stoked on this. Besides, his small amount of fame might be enough to get others on board with guns.
Maybe.

That was kinda my thought.

Most are generally eager to try to convince/explain to someone why you carry...and this guy learned if first hand.

Ok, Ill agree with you here. Until I see where this dude was a strong anti before hand, or does carry a preferential treatment streak, then Ill judge him.

I remember once upon a time in my own life questioning why anyone would ever want an AR. I thought carrying a pistol daily was silly. I thought Glocks and other polymer "tactical" stuff was not needed. Yes, I was a FUDD once upon a time. But through education and enlightenment I changed almost all of my views 100%.

First time for everything.

I havent dug into this guy's past, seeing his opinions before this incident etc. And I dont know that it really matters. People change. (ie: Trump was anti-gun in the past, he changed and now he's into it - Im not going to bash him for changing over time)
But I just think that anytime "we"/the gun community gets more members, especially ones with the REACH as a minor, or major, celebrity then thats good.

I think we need to remember, too, that many of us on here are from the south and grew up in rural, or at least suburban, areas - areas where a 'gun culture' thrived. Not everyone was that fortunate.
And many just never realize that they NEED one until they need one.
I can not fault a man for never thinking he needed one until he was facing down the barrel of one.
Would it have helped? Who knows. (I say that because if the gun is already in your face, and they are just asking for your watch or whatever, is it worth trying to draw? I dont know that i would, but that's just me).

I dont know, I'm just bummed out to see people saying stuff like, "He should have to wait to get it for as long as he didnt have it!" (not verbatim, apologies if I butchered it)...

But it's all opinions.
Best of luck to this guy.
