Your favorite fishing gear and tactics

I love rivers!! Ultra light rod in the 4-5' length a lightweight spinning reel spooled with 8lb spider braid (2 lb diam) and a handful of wordens rooster tails (silver & white or black & gold). You can catch bream, bass and crappie until you are tired of catching them. I have a 12' sit on top kayak that I love more than anything I have ever fished out/off of.
We used to use ultralight tackle with chartreuse Beetlespins in the New and James rivers in Virginia. And hellgrammites. A hellgrammite with a split shot drifted down through a pool would catch a variety of fish. I once stood in one spot and caught rock bass (aka red-eyes) on almost every cast - I finally got tired and went on down the river after about 20 of them. They were fun, but I was hoping for something bigger.

So a co-worker from a different department was telling me of a drift technique he used on striper. Said he used the "Storm live swim baits" and drifted them through the rocks on various rivers when the stripers are running. I bought some of the baits but now I need to figure out when striper are in the Haw.

No big girls today. Fish are tight lipped.
Only got a couple to open up.

First fish on second cast of the day.
I was smiling cus I thought today was the bass fishing days of all days with a fish on second cast.

3.25 lbs

After that it was get a glimps of a shadow until we got
Off the water at 2pm.

I went today also. Made the mistake of not getting up early enough to get in the big tournament on Lake Gaston and of course I had a great day. Some days all I can do is just shake my head.

You don't see many Lamiglas rods anymore. Before Loomis bought them I used to stop at their place when I traveled between Seattle and Portland. They would have deals on blanks and rods with cosmetic defects. I built a handful of rods using their blanks. Good stuff. Spinnerbaits in the Delta was a blast huh? I remember sitting off tule points and casting into the wind and catching fish all day. Miss that place.

Just curious where are you guys launching for Harris? I fished there a couple times last year on a kayak around little white oak creek, coordinates below, but didn't have great luck fishing the banks etc. Although it was july/ August too.

I think I still have a few other Lamiglas rods around, my old king Salmon and Steelhead rods. might have to dig them out and give them a wipe down.
Yes, I really miss the Delta. largemouth, smallmouth, Catfish, Striper, Sturgeon, Salmon ,crappie that place had it all. thou miss Clearlake and Berryessa as well.

We launched out Shearon Harris boat launch off of Bartley-Holleman rd. .
Some parts of that lake are shallow way off the bank. Look for drop off and transitions and sharper dropping banks in the summer. If you can find grass beds, fish the outside of them.
Look up Navionics Web app , you can then zoom in the topo of the lake and make your plan.

You can also put the Navionics app on your phone. Super awesome for trolling since it will mark your course and you can hit schooled up fish.

That reminds me of Rodman slough looking toward the lake and mt konocti
That peak is too steep for Mt Diablo

Man, now you're knocking my fine painting. It is the Delta and a view of Diablo. I'll just assume my crappy photography skills are to blame. But now that you mention a similar painting of Clear Lake and Konocti would be cool.

 Sorry, I didn't want to offend you. It's a fine painting !
On a Ca fishing forum the answer to " where is the best place in the delta to catch Striper ?"
The answer - if you can see Mt. Diablo, you can catch Striper there.

Some day we'll have to get together over some spent casings/shells and muse over old Nor Cal.
