Revolver Picture Thread

I didn't know Smith made any Single Action Only pistols, 'cept way back with the Model 3 an' such..
I understand the Model 14-1 to 14-3 were available from the factory in sao. Also available was a sa conversion kit in a blister pack. With the hammer down, trigger pulls smoothly, hammer dips slightly FORWARD, cylinder indexes. Single action works as usual. This one has a smooth trigger pull, no push off. A letter would confirm if it shipped sao as they weren't marked on the gun or on the box I'm told.

I got a 6 month ding for posting about those M10’s in the Lounge. They said it belongs in the appropriate gun section.

OK, mea culpa, but 6 months?

To add insult to injury, someone chastised me for not calling them Model 10’s, but M10’s.:rolleyes::(

Nit pickers abound.
My last S&W forum felony, and the consequential parole time, will expire end of this month. Getting ready to do some flaming over there. :p

These banana targets really class-up this 3” Model 60 with target sights.

Uberti Cimmaron Lightning 32 convertible, 32 H&R Magnum & 32 WCF (32-20)... the 32 H&R Magnum cylinder was gonna be reamed, but outa the box it already chambers 327!

Edit: not quite... it's chambers are longer than 32 H&R Mag but just shy of the length needed for 327.

F3D71E4F-EB36-4921-A160-E35EBE680F14.jpeg Here’s a 66 my grandpa has been keeping in his night stand for as long as I can remember. He said he hasn’t shot a box of ammo through it since picking it up new 30+ years ago.

Little story, last week my wife, 3 daughters, and I were visiting and I asked if we could put the playpen up in their room for the younger 2 to take a nap. They said ok and I asked if there were any guns laying around. My grandpa said something to the tune of, I’m glad you said something so we went in and got it and stashed it in the top of the closet. Later that night when we we’re almost home I remembered the pistol was still in the closet and he might have forgot to put it back beside the bed so I called and told him to grab it before they went to sleep. They live out in the country and have no nearby neighbors and no one to come to help them if something was to happen.

So yesterday we were back up helping around the house and I asked the same about putting the girls down for a nap. He said sure, but not to worry about the gun, it’s still up in the closet. I glanced beside the bed when we laid them down just to check and it wasn’t there so when we were leaving I said to grab it now so he didn’t forget. He said “it’s ok I’ve got it in the closet and I can get to it quick” (it would take me at least 6/7 second to get to it from the bed and that’s being awake, he’s 85). I told him that I wouldn’t sleep very good knowing it wasn’t within reach at night so we went to the closet to get it and put it back beside the bed, the whole time him saying it’s ok I can get to it in there. Well we got to the closet and it’s no where to be found. We looked around for 20 minutes and finally my Grandma cane in and said “is that the one I put up in this drawer?” It really worried me because he would have never found it if needed.

Either way I asked to check it out and it looked like it needed a good cleaning. It has a few places rust was starting to build and the ammo that was in the cylinder looked to be older than I am and had a healthy coat of oil on it. I brought it home last night and took it apart today and rubbed on it a little. Also bought a box of Hornady ammo to send back this weekend.

With all that being said the grips on the gun are starting to separate in the middle, any idea of why or what I can do to close the gap?

I'm not at all an expert in grips but do know something about wood. It wants to be like a sponge, soaking up humidity (and expanding) when in humid conditions and doing the opposite (often cracking) when in low humidity.

I'd take the grips off and hold each piece against a mirror (because it is perfectly flat). That would let me see whether each piece has actually changed dimensions.

By the way, the fact you found rust makes me more suspicious about the grips swelling and shrinking. While you have the grips off, you might discover a lifetime of sludge hiding in the action.

There wasn’t much sludge inside the pistol though, unlike his favorite shotgun. It was cleaned up recently and I’m pretty sure it was the first time since he got it. 6B78CC38-9378-4235-BEDC-F8ED4D1E11BE.jpeg

Yes, it was backordered for months.
It's easier to find a Model P-Jr, but I only wanted one with a short barrel and birdshead grips.
It's a small thing, not even as big as a Single Six.
Lightest factory trigger I've ever pulled!

not quite, it turns out... it's chambers are longer than 32 H&R Mag but just shy of the length needed for 327.

Here’s a picture after I cleaned it up, still had a couple rough spots but he was happy with it when I took it back yesterday.
@Jeppo I tried putting the grips on the mirror and the one was a little bowed. I’m guessing this gun hasn’t been outside in years so maybe they dried out and warped?

That'd be my guess. Probably alternated between too wet and too dry over a long period.

Wow, there’s not been a post here since Monday! Is Prosecutor on vacation or something ? I’ll throw in a meager contribution to try to keep this ball rolling. I got this 66-8 back in October as a wedding gift from me to me. I have about 700 rds through it so far, and it’s an excellent shooter.

Hope you are still on the NV side. You go too far west and you'll be a criminal! You somewhere close to Gardnerville?

I mean to say “southeast”. I was east of Gardnerville on Friday...in the Pine Nut Mountains. The picture above is east of Virginia City, along the Carson River on the way to Ft. Churchill.

Nice. I used to spend a little time out there when I lived in CA. Although not in the Summer if I could help it.
