Do any of yall ever open carry for any reason. Even if Im in the yard it feels to funny to me.
On a side note,,a well know wake county LGS employees all open carry in the store,,,Im wondering why any of they don't use a concealed at work?

I've open carried in my yard talking to the county Sheriff, didn't phase him. I don't typically open carry, I must have been transferring from the truck to the house. I will use an OWB but typically have a light coat or shirt over it.

Nope, always concealed. Only time I use my OWB holster is at the range. It makes sense at a gun shop, guns are their job, and it makes for an easy conversation piece or reference.

That and deterrence. Give the appearance of a harder target.

Personally, I don't OC but there are times when I truly don't give a **** about printing.

Once in a while for very short times. Usually in summer

Never truly "open" but I stopped caring about printing a looooong time ago. If you have a problem with my gun printing, it's just that, your problem....

Basically this. I NEVER intentionally open carry, just not my thing, but if I print a little here or there, or my shirt rides up, I don't get too bothered by it.

I never open carry in town. Only when hiking in remote areas. Spend about 4 days out in the Alligator River Wildlife Refuge and surrounding areas over the summer. Open carried a Glock 29 or Smith & Wesson 629 alternately. Hell, open carry really is the only way to carry a 629 with 5" barrel. Nobody out there. Lots of bears.

Never OC, why advertise? I know it "IS" a constitutional right, but why invite criticism and scare the snowflakes, but I subscribe to the "gray man" theory.

The big sign out front that reads "Xyz GUN Shop" and the hundreds of guns should be more than enough deterrence. Can't really deter stupid haha.

Only around the house. Before competition, I carry the full competition belt. Fully loaded this is 1/4 my body weight and I feel the need to practice moving with the extra weight.

I will stick my LCP or 43 in a sticky holster in my back pocket I will if I'm out walking one of my dogs. You can plainly see it but I need to be able to access it with one hand and I'm not in a position where I have to worry about someone else having easy access to it.

In Durham open carry is not an option. Not worth the legal battle. But, if it was don't think I would.

I open carry some. But most of the time it's concealed. I don't care about printing or my shirt riding up either.

Like has been said, I never really open carry. I just stopped caring about printing a long time ago.

Im the same as most everyone else here, it seems.
I *may* OC around the yard, if Im doing something. Whenever I'm going to the range, I usually have one gun Im focusing the days practice on, and I'll carry it OWB to and from. The season determines if its open or under a jacket. But, OC out in general pop...not a chance. Just not my cup o tea.
Side note about the range...I still conceal carry my EDC when practicing with something else. When I switch to practice with the EDC, that something else is loaded on my hip. I will always have one ready to go. While I don't think anything bad is going to happen at my range...bad stuff HAS happened at ranges...

I only open carry at home doing yard work....well if you call running a chain saw once a year yard work.

No I never open carry. Nothing against it or people that do. I just don't like people know I am carrying a firearm. It's my secret, I'll let the public know I have a firearm if I have to use it. I'd rather not be singled out as a target by thugs/robbers etc.

Sometimes. Not SOP though.
Funny. You don't see it too much here in the mountains, but when you do, people don't freak out like they do in the more populated areas where OC is more common.
My Brother visits from California once a year. He's Californian through and through..lived there for 40+ years.
I like to when he's around, simply because he can't believe it. I don't do it to prove my badass-ness, but to show him how ridiculous the California perception is of Southerners and blood in the streets. You can't talk to Californians, you have to prove it, and to see the slight embarrassment and rude awakening when their arguments become null and void...well I admit..I like that part.

I open carry all the time when at my farm, usually a 44 Mag in a crossdraw holster, but always carry concealed when off my property. I do open carry long guns in my truck.

same here, around the farm OC often, easier to reach, otherwise, around town it is concealed, but I also don't care if I print

I didn't think local ordinances could be stricter than state law.

Sec. 46-22. Display and possession of dangerous weapons—Prohibited on certain city property.

Sections from the city code:

It is unlawful for any person to display a dangerous weapon while on or in city property, or to leave displayed a dangerous weapon within a motor vehicle while the vehicle is on city property.

City property means any building including its grounds, park, recreation facility, athletic field, swimming pool, playground, cemetery, landfill, parking garage, parking lot, streets, sidewalks, alleyways, or other public property owned by the city or leased by the city as lessee. City property does not include: property leased, subleased or rented by the city to a private person or entity; or ranges legally permitted by the chief of police.

Dangerous weapon means any firearm, pump gun, air rifle, air pistol, BB gun, crossbow, bow and arrow, bowie knife, dirk, dagger, slingshot, loaded cane, metallic knuckles, razor, shuriken, stun gun, switch blade knife, black jack, or any other weapon of like kind.

Handgun means a firearm that has a short stock and is designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand.

Long gun means a shotgun or rifle which expels a projectile by action of an explosion.

This is what is on the books. I'm not willing to be the one to try and fight it being enforced.

Also, in Durham city limits it is illegal to discharge any projectile including airsoft.

Only on city/county owned property. Durham can't say jack about private property, which includes businesses.

I OC 100% at that house unless I've got a jacket on. I OC when hiking or fishing as well. I used to OC a good bit, even after I have my CHP. Never had but a couple issues. That vast majority of my interactions with people were either normal, or positive interactions about guns. I've had a couple interactions with LE while OC too, none were bad.

I assume we will be talking about the same LGS. The reason they open carry is because some don't have a CHP and with shirts tucked in and the amount of bending down into pistol cases, walking all day and doing other tasks it's just a lot easier for them to open carry. But some do have a concealed pistol.

In the woods or riding the ATV in a chest rig. Kinda hard to CC a 7 1/2" 44 Magnum! Otherwise CC everywhere it is legal to do so.

Don't have a CHP but when I did I open carried pretty much every work day. Didn't feel weird and was certainly more comfortable.

Jason clarified up thread that it's just on city property. It's illegal in most cities to discharge a firearm, certainly in mine, but that doesn't preclude exercising our rights to carry.

Carry it concealed, carry it open. Matters little.
Make sure you got it with you.

Whenever in the woods the Ruger is always easily accessible.

Only when Im at the range.
Always concealed outside of that.

When I am hunting. Always have my sidearm on my hip when I am in the woods. And several times, when we hunt different places in the area, I am driving/riding OC and stopping for Food/Gas/whatever...

This is in the mountains of Virginia, never had an issue. But, it is hunting season, I am in camo and so is everyone else.

I will OC on rare occasion that I am in the middle of yard work or working on something and need to run to the hard ware store around the corner for a part or bolt other than that no I don't Oc unless I am in the house and then I will carry the Glock 26 in a Blackhawk serpa holster ( I plan to upgrade to a chief Jason holster this year)

I always OC when I'm hunting, or scouting, or checking cameras, and if I stop for gas or a snack enroute, I don't bother to take it off. Nobody has ever said anything to me. Recently I showed up at a little store in Moncure and a Sheriff's deputy and several other hunters were in there, several of us OC'ing, nobody took any note of it. I sometimes OC when headed to or from the range but don't usually stop enroute.

I will on occasion if the mood strikes me. Most people don't notice, but I've gotten comments a few times.

Meh. Depends. I never set out to open carry, but at the same time I ain't going to change my attire if I leave work and have to run to the store.
