I thought I would share my Indian copy of the 1856 Enfield Cavalry carbine. It built in 1972 and has the smooth bore. It has really cool markings and I love the ram rod attachment. God willing I will get my first deer with it this year.

That is really cool! I've owned two PH Enfield musketoons in the past and currently have one, similar to yours but rifled with a 24" barrel.

Thanks it is 18 inches. One of the neat things about it is it has the Indian armory proofing marks.

The barrel is stamped .702. So far I have only shot # 6 shot out of it. I would love to find a place around Raleigh to shoot it.

I found it on gunbroker. The thing that got me was my great uncle hunted wild boar an flying fox in India with a gun very similar to this. Thank you @Mattyb I will definitely let you know

Not quite the same but similar: A 1970s Parker Hale artillery musketoon that I bought used. The stock has a couple of storage dents in it and the rod was missing when I got it. A great shooter but not particularly accurate, about 6" at 100yds with Pyrodex RS.

The 1970’s PH’s used progressive rifling like the originals to be used with the Pritchett bullet. They can be hard to get to shoot accurately.

The funny thing on mine is that the muzzle is very tight - I have to use a ball starter to get the projectile in, then is slides right down the tube with the usual ramrod pressure. Perhaps the Minie balls that I am using are overlarge.

The original ball had a rather thick skirt with a tapered wood or clay plug. And it was paper patched.
The rifling is deeper at the breach than muzzle. Try sizing the bullet so it just fits in the bore and goes down sort of easy. Measure the bore. I recommend black powder. I’ve never used pyrodex.
What bullet are you using?

I'm using some allegedly sized .575 balls that I bought off of the internet. The muzzle is noticeably tight and then the ball slides easily until reaching the breech end of the barrel.

You could try a .574 sized bullet. Like other guns you need to try different loads and sizes and types of minies.

I have a PH Musketoon. No really good results with anything resembling the original Pritchett, better with the Lyman 575213. With Hogdon minies with thinned base plug sized to .575, 42g 3f Old Eynsford black, it'll do about 2in at 100yds. You read that right, 2in. That's after quite a bit of experimenting and tweaking the load, but these guns can be quite capable. My 1st gen Parker Hale 2 band Enfield will shoot the same way.

Smoothbore accuracy- in North South Skirmish competition, I'm shooting a 69cal 1842 Macon with a 24in barrel, so it handles very much similar to the musketoon. I'm shooting a .682 round ball with 65g 3f Old Eynsford. After tweaking the load a bit, it will put ten shots in a row into under 3in at 25yds. That sounds fantastic, but there are others shooting much much better.

If you are seriously interested in getting these guns to perform, come over to the North South Skirmish Association.

You guys should really come to the last skirmish match of the year. It's held at the Statesville range- Allison Woods on 11/10-11. Saturday we'll compete with revolvers, smoothbores, carbines and repeaters. Sunday will be the musket match.

This is my Macon with a target I shot at 30yds offhand. There are 9 shots in that group.

Here's a group I shot at 50yds with my 1862 Springfield. The Parker Hales shoot even better.

Here's a 100yd group with my 2 band Parker Hale. 7 shots.

1863 Sharps carbine group. 4 shots into one hole and a called flyer. Top hole is from a friends 5th model Burnside.
