Post-41F NFA Stamp Tracking thread

Sigh.. what's the story on that one? Correction? Military orders?
Why does there have to be a story? Why can't it just be a quick approval for no apparent reason? :p

And it wasn't as fast as this one somebody posted on ARF before I posted mine.

I was born at night, but not last night haha
I filed four about the same time in Jan. All four approved in late July. But...I'd filed them as an individual and in the meantime I started a new trust with me as the RP. When the four came in, I took my Element 2 and one of my Turbos home, but left the other Turbo and the Nitro at Scott's and didn't fill out the 4473.

I wanted all four on my trust, but didn't really want to pay $800 to move them there, or have to wait again. I decided to transfer the two I took myself...doing my own prints and photos. I wasn't worried about the wait since I'm the transferor and transferee.

With the other two, I knew I could cancel the F4s since they were approved but no 4473. (They were approved ~5 days before I called to check, as I needed to determine if I was going to withdraw them or have to cancel them). I contacted a guy at the NFA Division I'd dealt with in the last, and asked if I could transfer the payment from those two to new F4s instead of paying again and waiting for the refund.

In a move that was logical, but surprising, he said sure. So I sent complete new F4s with prints and photos, a copy of my trust, the original approved F4s, and a letter making the request to void the two and apply the payment to the new ones...directly to him in WV. I asked how long he thought it would take, and he said they should handle it in <30 days. I didn't believe it, but figured the wait really wasn't an issue.

I mailed them 8/3, approved 8/16, received 8/24. They sent back my new forms as well as a voided copy of the old ones. There was no background check needed because I was the only RP, and was also the individual on the old forms...so it had really already been done.

That's the story.

FWIW...the other was somewhat similar, except that mine was prearranged. That guy filed forms with his trust, and said he'd had 10+ forms approved that way. His brother was listed as the successor trustee, and had never submitted FP cards and photos. Examiner insisted he needed to send them in. Instead, the guy asked if he could just send new forms in as an individual, was told "yes", and you can see the result.

I also mailed my two F4s transferring them from my to my trust. I'd asked the guy at the NFA if I could include them in my envelope to him, but since they needed to be paid for he said I would need to send them to GA. (If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't have done the 4473 on any of them and handled all four the same way). I did put a note on the forms sent to GA explaining the BGC was just done on the same person, so I'll be interested to see if there's any chance they're processed faster. The examiner could easily use the NTN from the first two and immediately process these...but I'm definitely not holding my breath.

Wait, this can be done? How? Did you just buy the tax stamp online and then enter everything? I want to do this.

Edit. I see it is a $35 fee now. Only available as an individual, not a trust. Still an interesting option. I don't understand why they can't do it as a trust the same way they do the suppressors.

EDIT 2: Apparently, if you buy the Single Shot Trust and the Form 1 service, you CAN have the Form 1 done with a single shot trust. Looks like I'll be trying that out this week.

Edit 3: Sent SiShop an email asking them to confirm it is this easy.

I've sent 2 in through SS this way - I can confirm, it's that easy.

Man, this has got to be the smartest thing SiShop has ever done. And considering they only charge $35 for the Form 1 service, they must have a good team that has reviewed and standardized the processes to make turn around super quick. I'd love to know how many single shot trust they've filed to date. We're what, just over 2 years into 41F?

I'm just curious why you'd pay somebody $35 for something you can do yourself for almost free?

And it's not any faster having them do it...matter of fact it often slower.

In my case it was because I had gift cards from suppressor purchases; and a slight case of laziness/fear of screwing up the form

Ink my own finger prints, pay to mail in the application, and write a check (I have had the same box of checks for over 12 years I write so few of them. I am almost out and need to get more!)

It is also a convenience thing in terms of having it tracked on the SiShop portal and then I have the trust digital I can save and just add the PDF of the stamp to once approved. For $35, plus the $5 premium on the tax stamp, it's worth it for me.

If you ever have questions on the form, let me know.

Just a couple thoughts I'll toss out.

FD-258LE cards are free from the ATF. Inkless fingerprint pad is ~$7 and will last for a LOT of cards.

It's almost impossible to screw up rolling your own prints, since I'm 99.44% sure they don't actually run them. They simply use the info you write on them to run a NICS check. ;)

They take CCs on the form if you run out of checks, and you'll save $5.

I have a digital copy of my trust, and scan all my stamps into PDFs as well.

I'm not saying it's not convenient. I see quite a few people say they file them from the porcelain throne. But for every five times you pay them the $35/$5, you'd have funds for another stamp. :D

Will do - it basically boils down to the fact that I can barely write legibly when actually trying, and figured I'd take all the guess work out of it.
Who fills in the forms by hand? If you do it online, you fill out the first copy and it autopopulates the other two. Way less work than using pen & paper.

Well crap - didn't realize it was setup properly for you to do that - I honestly expected the worst case scenario as it's a government agency - that's where the lazy came in apparently.

I actually had the opposite happen where I filled a lot of the form out and messed up one field, I think it was a check box, and couldn't uncheck it. Had to start over in a blank file.

I likely will do 1 form 1 with SiShop and then once I get the copy of the Trust back, recreate it in Word. My first trust was pre-41F and I want to make sure I get the format correct given the RPs and naming convention so I do the 1 trust per item method.

And the rolling of the finger prints was the worst! I have short fingers and big palms so my damn hands are always in the way!

Just a tip in case you try it. Don't click the link on atf.gov and try to complete it in the browser window. Save the file, open it in Adobe Reader, and it should auto-populate the other copies.

They made it super easy. Got fingerprints at the kiosk and filled out the rest on my phone. Just had to e-sign a couple of documents after they filled out the forms. Then they mailed them off.

Damn I did not know that! I'm also not a big techy, so I never would have even thought about it!

My F1 was filled out by hand.

Seriously though, if you (or anybody else) ever have a thought/question, just post it. Or send me a PM. Even if I haven't posted it, as a mod on ARF there's a decent chance I might've seen somebody else ask/answer the same thing.

Boom Approved July 30th and the stamp is heading your way.

So, I'm the last man standing? Darn.

Well, at least I was able to pick up my TBAC 22 takedown last weekend. I've only been waiting on it since last October.

@kcult I'm fixing to start the process to short barrel and suppress my H&K MP5 A5 in 22lr. Figuring on around 8" more or less coming off the end of the barrel. Any idea how that's going to affect the accuracy of my rifle? It's a very accurate shooter and I hope I'm not screwing that up.

I'm not sure if you want to call this accurate, but at roughly 25ft (not yards), this what I did with 20rds. I was sighting in my new PA micro dot.

First shot was low left. The 2nd shot is not so low and left. The other 18 are gathering around the X, with the exception of the one that doesn't want to dance. I was using CCI SV.

Again, just 25ft, with one knee being nibbled on by fire ants while I kneel by an old table, resting the rail on the back of my hand.

I'm not ready to squirrel hunt with it, but punching holes in paper, quietly, shouldn't be too much of a chore.

The CCBI is down the road from my office and the young ladies who do the prints sure are purdy.:)

@TARHEELSTATE
April 4th 2018 and May 5th 2018 approved form 4's were mixed in with others today from Jan 2018.
Pretty crazy how irregular the timing is when there are persons waiting that submitted forms from the end of 2017.
Scott, what dates are you seeing coming in now?

Oct 2017 thru May 2018 . All over the place.
I finally got a "pending" on my form 1. Check cashed. 6/18/18. Called a month ago and was told "not in the system" yet. Today she gave me a pending date of 6/18/18. Go figure.

It has been taking them about 2 months to enter the information into the system after the check is cashed. They back date the pending date to the day they get your $$$.
