I’m looking to buy my first ak and I have no clue what to look for except don’t buy American made. I’m a long range shooter and love my ar’s but I want a quality ak My budget is $1500 so tell me what my money can buy me. Thanks wooooooo

Do you want it to be pretty?
Because some ugly ones are cheaper but group about the same as the high dollar ones.

Here's what you want if it isn't already gone. It's a nice Russian rifle that will only go up in value. There's also 4 Chinese flatback mags with it, which are $30-40 a pop.

Other than that....
With your budget, I'd get a milled Arsenal. Something from the SAM series.
Milled receiver limits furniture options though, so if you want to trick it out with a bunch of tacticool stuff, your options would be more limited than on a stamped rifle.
The 7SF model has a folding stock with a longer length of pull if you need it, but there's not a whole lot of options for replacing it, so if you get one you're mostly married to that stock.
The 7R has a standard fixed stock- you'll have more options for replacing it, but still not as many as a stamped rifle.

Vepr FM's are nice rifles, built on RPK recievers in Russia, but they're front heavy and you're limited again on furniture and stock options.

For that budget i would get (and i have) a SAM7 Arsenal of some variety. Many will say WASR and I agree for the money but if you are looking for an exceptional AK, go milled. Perhaps even chinese pre ban milled, although that may be over your 1500 budget .

Welcome aboard- these things multiply like rabbits, you have been warned.

Jinx- guess we were typing at the same time - that SGL has killed me, hate I couldn't swing it.

Well, problem is I was asking 1400. Since then I bought a 150 buck Bakelite spiker lower so I can have a spiker put on it. Already bough that a couple years ago. ($200)

That bing said I would buy my rifle as a shooter. All the parts to build the rifle are to hard to find and they get more expensive everyday.
I would just buy a newer WASR to make sure you like the platform.

Bummer, but I can't blame the man. I sold him the stock, grip & lower handguard he has on that Mak & he payed like 400 smacks for 'em. Those babies are few & far between these days. I searched for a matching upper handguard for months for him & didn't find jack. Mike is a true Chicom connoisseur. She's with her rightful master. Good luck nature boy. If I see anything out there I'll definitely let you know.

Took me 8 months to find one that matched $125 on it.

If you're a long range shooter, are you going to run your AK with an optic? If so, you'll want to take into account the cost of a rail, and an optic calibrated for 7.62x39 or whichever caliber you choose. Also, you'll want to equip yourself with several mags, and at the very least a case of ammo. Are these part of your budget too, or do you have additional funds for ammo and accessories?

Veprs are nice. Heavy duty Russian builds, wonderful fit and finish, very accurate, and also going up in price due to import bans. Whatever you go with, just remember the ammo and accessories needed to make your AK more than a $1,500 boat paddle. And post pics
