Smart TV's, vs. Dumb TV's, cable and Amazon Prime

This does appear to be the most economical choice (by far) to get Hallmark for the Mrs.
I appreciate you posting it.

Anytime, I know you will be happy with it. It's much more stable and a much better quality picture than DirecTV now or sling. The menu takes a little getting used to as far as the way it's laid out but once you do it should be a piece of cake. Can't beat it for $16/month.

If you have any trouble setting it up or navigating it feel free to PM me.

Gonna hijack this thread I hope: Along this same train of thought... Black Friday sales usually include a bunch of Roku/Fire Stick type devices but I don't know good from bad with these things. For example what do you get for your money when you buy a Fire Cube instead of a Fire Stick, what does 4k mean if I don't have a 4k TV, etc etc... Can I get some recommendations on what to get and what to avoid?

I just bought a Roku Premier for $39 at BestBuy that will run a 4k TV even though I don't have one yet, but soon. The Roku Express runs up to a 1080 TV and was $29.

Field grade hit the nail on the head. Go ahead and go with the Roku Ultra for the price. All are going to do the same thing as far as accessing apps but you will be much happier with the speed in which the menus load with the Ultra. Not only 4k capable but much faster processor.

This is actually the one I bought. Not sure how it compares to the Ultra.

The Ultra is $99

My mistake. That's what I get for multitasking. The premier is a solid streaming device and Roku's mid level one. Express - Premier - Ultra

For the price you still did well. I would avoid the express for the price difference between the express and premier right now. Nothing wrong with it but it wouldn't be as snappy as the Premier on menu screens and doesn't support 4k like the Premier does.

Thanks for responding Field grade.

What if we throw Amazon Prime/Alexa/Echo into the equation? Privacy concerns aside voice control sounds like it should be a really nice addition to my TV.
