This liberal pig is calling for "common-sense gun laws". This is the same language the Democrats in Virginia have used, as the state turned from red, to purple, and now lean blue.

What he means is tough gun control laws, AWB ban, Red flag, 10 round magazine, license for handgun (oh wait NC has that already), 1 gun a month law, registration, 7 day waiting period after buying a gun "cool off period", and other restrictions.

Wait. You mean all those years of NC Legislature sanctioned gun registration that was only allowed in Durham County (with Jim Crow era laws), the only county in NC out of all 100 counties that had gun registration, didn't accomplish the objective?

Has at one point in time, any of these idiots show with factual data that these suggestions actually work within the criminal element.?

Unless you run with Dwayne Dixon.

Durham

A man arrested for bringing a semi-automatic rifle to a KKK counterprotest last summer had his case dismissed Thursday when a judge ruled the charge was unconstitutional.

Dwayne Dixon faced the misdemeanor after he brought the rifle to downtown Durham Aug. 18 amid rumors of a white supremacist rally that never materialized.

District Court Judge James T. Hill dismissed the charge after Dixon’s attorney, Scott Holmes, argued the law was overly broad and infringed upon the the First and Second Amendments rights to assemble and to bear arms.

“It is just unconstitutional on its face, and the state can’t use it to prosecute my client,” Holmes said in court.

Antifa: The hard left's call to arms

For the past decade he has lived in Durham, an urban, progressive bubble in the conservative south.

After lengthy persuasion, the Silver Valley chapter of Redneck Revolt in North Carolina allowed Foreign Correspondent rare access to their world of guns, resistance and camaraderie.

What makes the Mayor think more words on paper will stop people from using guns illegally?

Mayor Steve Schewel said it’s important to address the “root causes” of violence.

“First of all, and I have to mention this, we have got to have common-sense gun laws in this state,” he said.

No. We don't have to have any additional laws. What we do need is to whittle the number of existing laws down to, let's say, ONE...and only one.

Any individual confined to an institution does not have the RTKBA during their confinement.

And as Vern Gosdin sang, "That just about does it, don't it?"

Any other law, other than the one above, is nothing but pure, 100% Grade A unconstitutional BS and it should be abolished immediately. I don't give a sh*t if it's in the name of "safety", "the children" or whatever the hell other excuse they conjure up; it is an abrogation of liberty and has no place in a free society.

F* a buncha tyranny.

I've heard in Tennessee politicians have had their homes burned down for even proposing gun control bills. Don't put up with this, this bastard mayor needs to go.

Thankfully the municipalities are constrained by state wide preemption. They can try, they may try to enforce it, but at least for now they won’t be successful.

On the other hand, people may just need to make that determination at some point as to whether they are willing to remain “law abiding”.

It is my belief that any citizen choosing to freely exercise their RTKBA, as intended and enumerated in Amendment II, is abiding by the supreme law of the land...

Those attempting to restrict, regulate or prohibit the right of free citizens to do so are not abiding by the law and are guilty of criminal action.

If Duke ever closed, Durham would spiral down the drain faster than a commode. I moved because of their increasing stupidity like getting rid of the police chief, a hispanic, who didn't cater to the lowlifes and brought the crime rate down for a Atlanta reject who coddles the wrong community and undid most of the effective policing programs. Now the violent and property crime rates are going up and no one understands why.

Durham, Our own Detroit now want's to be Chicago.

Lol, haven't been here lately, have you? You stay out of the 10-square block area surrounding Main and 55, you are paying $15 for a martini, $20 for apps, and seeing some of the best musicians in the country. There's been more development money in Durham in 1 year than Detroit has had in 30 years.

One would need a self defense weapon in Durham more than any city in NC.

See my post above. Not too afraid here; at least in town. Around McDougal or Central, maybe, but not downtown.

@Elenaidan , I concur, as do most gun-owners I know. Pass it, don't pass it, it's not going to change any behaviors of people who carry anyway. We need to catch up.

Me whenever I hear "common sense gun laws".

Why is everyone so worried, even if it passes? The police are pro-2A and would never enforce this unconstitutional nonsense.

Right?

Right?

The Durham cops I know--small 'n', more than 20 but fewer than 30, 35--are pro 2A. One of whom stopped me after a rolling stop through a stop sign; I did the usual "here's my permit and license" spiel, he waved them off, said "the constitution gives you the right to carry, however you want...."

I don't know where he is on the bell curve of DPD officers to be fair.

1) Nothing new.
2) Not surprising.
3) SS, DD.

Take your pick ... it's Durham.

Mayor Schewel wasn't acting alone on this - the police chief and new sheriff joined along, and our new DA is on board. None of this is new or surprising whatsoever. Back when he was still in office, Mayor Bell was a member of the Bloomberg-funded nationwide "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" coalition.

They're welcome to espouse their own opinions, however misguided and/or malicious. Meanwhile, Durham will continue forward as a petri dish overgrown with haves and have nots. Those of us here who support the 2A, however minuscule we are, will do the same. No one in this City has the balls or the eyebrows to come and take them.

How about a law setting the minimum size and placement of gun buster signs instead.
3'x5'. On every entrance into a business. Center of sign must be 4' (exactly) from the bottom of the door opening.
No other sign since or placement can be construed as compliant or enforceable.
That would be a "common sense gun law."

Too many businesses put a note far too the side, away from the entrance.

They are but their chief isn't

Both of you are speaking to one half of a sentence, but the silence to the second half is deafening..... (and exactly the point of the entire post - whether he waived off the permit or not).

Me, I was just speaking to your question whether the cops would/would not enforce it. Some I know would not. The others, I don't know if they would or would not.

I’m willing to bet my life more would than would not.

And most of those who would not initially wouldn’t quit over it being their job to enforce such laws with violence, and would enforce them before they’d give up their paycheck and pension.

I don't know. Honestly, I am not too worried. As @Elenaidan , @IUHoosier429 , and others said, it's not going to change my habits.
